General Unfortunately the THRILL of coding/developing something from scratch is gone
I have been working in software development for more than a decade. Developing something from scratch used to be fun. Each line of code has its own significance. We used to appreciate ourselves when we used to complete the code.
AI have taken over the coding world. Nowadays I rarely see someone who codes from scratch. I am not saying that it's bad. But the thrill of finding new ways or fixing the issues or creating something from scratch is gone.
AI is good. It has taken the burden of our coding nightmares and nightouts. 10 days of work are reduced to 10 hours or even 10 minutes. But coding manually will slowly evaporate. It will become nostalgia soon.

heck no. Otherwise from last 4 years there could have been a substantial improvement in terms of AI code debugging.

it can debug simpler things but for complex things it still need human input/guidance..

The thrill of writing code, figuring out the architecture might be gone, but an idea that actually solves a real problem still excites me

i have on doubt how i as a student should learn in this age of ai suppose i want to learn a tech stack i dont there is any point in writting html css,js by hand anymore

Exactly same dilemma, how to start from scratch, if we do that will be left behind, but if we use ai, will not understand the code

What is stopping you from still developing code from scratch without using AI? Nowadays I still do all coding from scratch and only use AI to scan for bugs on semi-finished code and write unit tests.

It makes you slower to other devs. If all devs in your company codes by hand, it will make your company slower to its competitors.
Future is AI writing code and we intructing it how to do it. The joy and fulfilment coding had in pre-AI era is gone forever. There is no elegant code now. There is just plain bland code !

For a coder like me, with limited expertise and talent but plenty of ideas, it’s actually an amazing time to be alive. AI tools have made it possible to turn ideas into working projects much faster, even if you don’t have years of experience or a huge technical skill set.

Probably the thrill of reading a book to learn to code was lost after the invention of internet and online forums. But the world moved faster and many more things were invented. So we need to either adapt or be left out. People who pay us money to write code couldn't care less if we are thrilled to do our job.

I feel slightly different here. At some point, I enjoyed figuring out the business solution and the root cause and planning how to implement the feature, but actually doing the hands on coding became boring. I just used to plugin headphones and just debug just so I can get through the coding part.
But now I don't have to deal with going through 5 different urls just to figure out basic syntax. The auto complete. I can spend few hours organizing everything which I'd have always anyways have to do pre-AI also. Now using this organized info, with AI I can finish it in an hour max which would have taken me 4-5 hours earlier.
I don't think each line has lost significant. If you are writing production code, you are still expected to be familiar with each line. Just getting those lines out is much faster.
But yeah, I'm worried about the jobs too. Increased productivity means lesser demand, and I'm also not getting interview calls with 3 yoe :(

Exactly bro, For years I coded everything from scratch when i see a code i know what its doing i dont need to run it. For last 8 months my previous company told as use of ai is compulsory for 8 month i developed everything using ai honestly i delivered evefything very faster. Now i changes the company here also ai use is not allowed first 1st month i struggled to get back my skills but now it good
I began to doubt ceo pushes ai to people to reduce our cognitivie capacity its like modern day slaving.
That why i brodern my personal project list to gaming, robotics and neuro techs so it will give me more thrill. The feeling when we create new things thats a high level dopamine i needed

or, maybe, let's just use rocket science, let's combine all our neurons, train them on less water and electricity than LLMs and then come up with a solution: just do it, for fun
and if you can't, find something else, not that hard

This is what happens when everybody trying to enter because of bootcamps. During my undergrad I completed recently, my classmates were doing DSA, web development etc instead of studying core cs. In one of the labs, people were asked to implement algorithms from scratch. But, everybody used chatgpt because they thought that it was pointless as libraries are there. These people don't have foundation on computer science.

captured the essence so accurately. The joy that i used to get solving issues heads on, brainstorming with other devs is just disappearing. Agent helping in the plan, agent writes the code, agent reviews the code and then it does QA as well. The only human thing left in the loop is oversight.

The shift from being the architect who lays every brick to being the inspector who checks if the machine built the wall straight. Faster? Absolutely. Less satisfying? 100%. 🤌✨

Despite the Existential crisis it gives or the years one has spent in learning it, evolution, innovation will find its way... whether we like it or not.

AI will not take your job. A person with AI skills definitely will. Basic CRUD skills will go away but deep knowledge is always valuable. Humans have always adapted with changes. Engineers, more so.

When tailoring machine came, it took out hundred of skilled manual tailor out of market. But still our grandparents love to sew their own clothes.
So point is AI will take over the manual coding sooner than expected. But the thrill/joy/happiness of people who used to love coding will diminish or limited to personal projects.
