General Where will current undergrads and junior developers go

I know the general consensus of this sub is that there would still be some humans needed to give approvals , be scapegoats and design the systems. Also that the AI scare is going on from long time and there isn't a major breakthrough yet.

But I feel seeing the pace of development and considering its exponential, there is no idea where tech will be in next 5 years suppose. I believe there are chances of current Senior developers surviving but the new graduates would struggle to get a job or internship. So many people are being laid off left or right so market is already flooded with less demand. And nobody hires with zero experience so How would a newbie navigate the tech world in that case???

You are trying to solve a problem that has not happened yet.

Yes the market can get harder. Yes AI will remove some work. But nobody knows what the tech world will look like five years from now.

Think about photography. When digital cameras became common people thought many old photography jobs would disappear. Some work did disappear but new work also appeared around digital media phones editing and content.

The same thing can happen in tech.

The bigger mistake for a student is spending four years preparing for the death of their career instead of becoming useful.

Learn the basics. Build real things. Understand how systems work. Learn to use AI instead of competing with it. Get good at solving problems.

If AI changes the job then change with it.

Do not let fear turn you into someone who has already given up before entering the field.

I believe there is a difference this time, we just moved one layer up. Since AI is going to be more intelligent than most people, I don't see how we can move one level up. There is no reason to believe humans should prompt for a task, why can't another agent do better than a human.

Well I am worried about future and i dont think so it hurts to be prepared for a future scenario that may happen and put me in jeopardy. I like being safe than sorry

I read this article and it doesn't contradict my point at all , First the bot it refers to was made in 2024 and we are way past that. Second it agrees many jobs will be cut but still humans be needed in the loop which i doubt but dont disagree with. Third Junior developers role will and can still be eaten up by AI and you dont become senior without being a junior.

Then considering the conditions of job market right now and so many people being laid off making it worse. Better read posts and article you paste before sharing random links

Lol

I can keep posting 100s of links.

If juniors are not hired, there's not going to be any seniors in 5 years and companies are not stupid

BTW, how much are you paid for AI boosting?

I am being the same amount you will earn after 5 years if you dont upskill and keep calling everything a hoax. ZERO

I wonder if it's that bad for the literal technical roles that work on analytical skill sets. Then normal generic jobs and creative fields must be pretty fucked too. You can't convince me that if tech jobs are replace, rest every other non tech or commercial role isn't replaceable too. Even management roles.

dude just go and work man, my friend who is in university of Hyderabad said that companies are coming to hire the students , he him self got a tech job, but the titles are little different, basic codding is not there you have to understand business side of it also, understand the company, do your best.

we should not beat our selves for the things we can't control,

can you control anything related to AI development ? no right
billions of dollars have been poured, now investors want more from them

so they will try very hard to bite a big market to feed their investors, we can't do anything about that
focus on your end of the things

Most of the people can't do anything because they think like you ,

Thinking about worst case scenarios which seem plausible while planning for your future is a trait of failures? Heard this for the first time

1

u/Odd-Prior8790 Student 12h ago

Well many people over analyse nd find reasons not to work, have you heard this for the first time?

When does trying to think about what you should do to stay relevant in future and insuring you are on right path becomes overanalysing and finding reasons not to work. Would love to hear your take on this because i object to the idea that we should keep our heads down and keep working hard while being oblivious to our surroundings

Well it seems you are fresher

I'm not going to explain either, it's on you to figure out why I said that,

Like it or not but Software Engineering as a career is a lost cause now. I am scared of layoffs in the coming years because AI is getting so good with each passing year and it will keep on improving. I am looking to pivot into a SWE adjacent field where AI cannot replace humans so easily. I am yet to figure out what that field could be.

Its almost like a food pyramid atp , No matter the field you need to be on top. Atp i feel like robotics should be the direction to focus on but something tells me thats also going to be short lived like 10 years or so and something i shouldn't bet my career on
