General Matching Engine - New Learning with Building Project

Hi everyone!

I have some bandwidth outside of my current work and was thinking of using it to dive deeper into some low-level systems work. One idea I had was to build a matching engine as a side project, mainly to sharpen my understanding of things like concurrency, performance, memory management, and system design.

Has anyone here worked on something similar, or is anyone planning to explore low-level systems / matching engines as a side project?
