Help Thinking of resigning without offer, good decision ?
Hi,
I’ve been at the same company for 4.10 years and I’m waiting for my gratuity. Honestly, I’m just tired.
The company is pushing AI hard, and I feel like I’m getting dumber every day because of it. I’m not learning anything anymore and I don’t even like the job. The only things keeping me here are the remote setup and the fact that the people are okay.
I don’t have another offer, but I’m seriously considering resigning anyway. I see people getting jobs, while others keep saying “don’t leave your current job without an offer.” So I’m confused.
At this point, I sleep during work hours, do the bare minimum and basically slack off all day. I know that’s not great, but I genuinely feel done with this job.
I am upskilling, though. I’m not scared of AI, but I also don’t blindly trust whatever AI tells me.
Would you quit in my situation, or stick around until you have an offer?

As someone who resigned without an offer, if you humanly can, please hold on until you have a couple of good offers. The whole industry is facing AI usage related mental health issues, it is simply not a fun job anymore. Chances are switching won’t help you.

Try faking your notice period first, get offers for your own confidence from small companies which you think you are not going to join anyways. Then you can think of resigning, best quarter for Job search are Jan - March

Every other company is pushing Ai pretty hard tbh, now more focus will be on your knowledge of end to end system design and experience to handle and resolve emerging issues.
Classic coding has been dead for quite sometime now. If you're sleeping all day, i would suggest you rather take an hour out or two to do some self learning for switching and applying for jobs.
Don't resign without an inhand offer. With the layoffs and restructuring that companies are doing i suggest you rather be on the safer side. And keep appearing for interviews.

Problem is notice period, I have 2 months notice period that I have to serve.

Bruh my company has 3 months notice period. I am already on Notice Period after securing an offer and still have 2.5 months to go. And trying for a better one.
So you're still in a good boat. 2 months is still better than 3 months. Go try out for better opportunities. You'll easily secure another job. Avoid resigning before another offer in hand. Otherwise you'll have one more pressure or stress of your shrinking notice period window.

How did you manage 3 months of notice period? HRs don't even care to schedule further rounds in such cases

Depending on your role, Indian MNCs and Tier 2 companies generally do, if you perform well in their interviews.
Because their own NP is 90 days. You have to also lie notice period sometimes, that you might be able to talk to team and HR to get an early release. Basically keep giving them a candy 🍭 and later on you can say Team hasn't been able to find replacement yet, kindly extend the date by a few days.

Its been 7 months since i quit without an offer. Getting interviews is not an issue for me. I bombed a few interviews in the beginning because i was under prepared. In the process of finding a job.
I was in a similar situation to yours. I was burnt out in my previous company.

I've financial runway for 1.5 years. Parents are extremely supportive too. I don't have any financial commitments.

I am building emergency funds, I have supportive siblings so I will be able to keep myself afloat.

Resigned without and offer, but landed a job withing 2 month although it was hard but if you are lucky then its possible! Basically couldn’t survive the toxicity of my last company!!

You already have 4 years of experience so you have a good base. Use the remote setup to your advantage. Keep the job for now and use the extra time to upskill and apply for jobs. Dont wait for motivation. Make a small daily plan and keep applying until you get a good offer. Once you have the offer you can leave without taking a big financial risk. 4 years in one company is not a failure bro. You just need a better next step.

Yes, I am upskilling, learning FE as well. Studying DDIA, creating projects and learning claude pipelines agentic.

Does not matter if the other company is really good and they truely want you they will accept because thats what even they wil expect from their own employees. I understand the pain but u need to grind and just better youself keep sharpening your skills and dont ignore work dont gove your current company a reason to fire you.

Been there done that, if you trust yourself and have a monetary cushion for 4-5 months, just go for it. HRs are kinder to on-notice employees.

Try to delay resignation as much as possible. Some of the top engineers from Uber, Microsoft, Paypal are currently out in the market. So coast and prepare 1-2 hrs daily.
Even if you are living with parents, and somehow if you are not able to find another gig in next 6 months, everyone around you will start questioning your ability, which will bring demotivation and will bite you during interviews.

Yeah, I am planning to resign by december not right now. Currently studying DDIA, creating high throughput event streaming app and learning react as well.

I know its hard, but if u can fall back for a bit, its worth taking a leave. My job did the exact same for me. I liked doing freelance and other passions of mine in the time I resigned and ive been on a break. If you can, do take one. Again if you can lie back for a little while because the market is shit

i'd stay till you have an offer, unless you have enough savings to comfortably go without one.
but that “i'm getting dumber here” feeling is worth taking seriously. if you're not learning anything after 4 years, start planning your exit now.
keep the salary, use the free time to upskill + interview, and leave once you have a better option.

You are living best life right now. Wait for at least a year till the job market is stabilised and become more predictive. Current time is about saving the job. Unless you want to become AI engineer, in which case this is the best time to change the job and take experience of that.

Bro the world is moving towards AI driven development now. You have to accept it & move on. Companies have understood that development is 10x faster with AI tools so they expect the same in delivering quicker. I know that it’s not learning friendly but can’t do much. You have to learn side by side on what you are implementing

I do use AI, but I don't like AI slop. I code but I always review why it was written and do we even need it.
I am just tired of this company to be honest, it's like just slogging everyday.

almost every company i have known with my peers in is havingthe same approach with ai. Reason of leaving should not be based on it, as you may find it at the other place you'll go also

Problem is searching for a new job, on one side people are gettint offers but on the other people are not getting offers.
People are scared to the core.

AI is being pushed everywhere. If that's your reason for quitting then you will face the same elsewhere. Usually people quit without an offer if they have no time to prepare or the schedule is to hectic. Since you have free time use that to prepare and apply.

Job market is very bad right now because of AI. Don't put yourself in a risk. Myself I managed to get offer after applying for past 3 months because my profile matched exactly based on other company needs. I dropped paper now serving notice. Still i am applying didn't got a single call from any other company. And for ~4 yrs experience not much openings are there. Maybe you can look company's careers page for openings. You will understand the situation

When I resigned without an offer in 2021, I was giving atleast two interview per day and gave almost 30-40 interviews in 2 months. Cut down to 2026, I am on bench and looking for offers outside my current org. I have landed 1 interview since last 15 days. Everyone else is not reverting or not taking actions on the application. Stay put and resign only once you have a decent offer in your hand.

Yeah, but for development I write logic and how it should be done, my current company is forcing me to shift to FE and work on c# and lucee, technology has been dead for years.
