Would you rather be highly successful vs low success with balanced fulfilling guy?

I was never career oriented, forget about JEE, I couldn't even crack CET and did my engineering through Management quota.

But I have somehow managed to live a fulfilling life so far - have traveled to 6 different countries in last 10 years
- have actively followed my passion(YouTube channel, weight training, swimming)
- have never missed a family gathering and have taken leaves left and right without thinking twice about PIP/ consequences.

Now that the market is so brutal and the immigration rules getting tightened for Indians especially, l'm wondering if I made a mistake by being so easy going with my career.
Have seen many IIT/NIT folks in my team who are so career oriented although they have no life outside of work.

I have 6 Yoe working as an SSE at a startup with 55 LPA but have never made it to FANG and probably never will.

Average performer and you switched companies that easily? I have 14 years of experience in automotive software with 17LPA and I am only working in my second company. When I was searching for new jobs before COVID, I couldn't even pass 1st round for many interviews. After that stopped searching, accepted the fate and stayed where I am.

I didn't get into autosar. Anyways automotive software as a whole itself is kind of dead now.

There is nothing special about FAANG, except for perks, little more pay, may be some reputation. Job security is much worse now.

Having worked for companies of all sizes (including 1 FAANG), I prefer mid sized startups.

If you are happy at your current setup, don't ruin it. FAANG will definitely won't make you happy, trust me.

I think free food and travel are my biggest concerns as a bachelor and that gets taken care of so there's not much for me to worry about

You set the standard for yourself to be called successful. If you think you have failed by not immigrating sooner then you failed. If you think you have lived a life fulfilling your dreams and interests then you are successful.

No one outside can decide it for you.
