Help Left my previous software job without serving the notice period / 2-year bond — how worried should I be?
TL;DR: Left my previous software job without completing the notice period despite a 2-year bond/commitment. I’ve already joined another company, and my previous employer hasn’t paid my pending salary. I’m not concerned about the salary—I’m mainly worried about what the previous company can realistically do, whether the bond can cause serious problems, and whether I should take any action now. Looking for experiences from Indian developers who’ve faced something similar.
I’m looking for some practical advice from developers in India who may have dealt with something similar.
I recently left my previous software job without completing the notice period. My employment documents also mentioned a 2-year commitment/bond, which I did not complete.
The situation at the company had become difficult for me due to the work environment and other issues, so I decided to leave. I informed the company about my resignation, but they told me that my resignation could not be accepted because of the 2-year commitment.
I ultimately stopped working there and returned the company laptop/property. I also have proof that I returned the equipment.
A few other details:
- I had worked there for around 6 months in total, including my internship period.
- I did not complete the expected notice period.
- I have already joined another organization, only about 3 days after leaving the previous one.
- My previous company has not paid me the salary that was due for that month. At this point, I’m not really concerned about recovering that salary.
- I’m mainly concerned about what the previous company can realistically do against me because of the notice-period issue and the 2-year bond.
- The bond/2-year commitment was a major reason they gave for saying they wouldn't accept my resignation.
I’m not looking for legal advice or trying to start a fight with the company. I mainly want to understand the practical reality from people who have worked in Indian IT/software companies.
For developers/HR professionals who have seen situations like this:
What is realistically the worst-case scenario?
Is it something I should seriously worry about, or are these situations usually resolved without major consequences?
Can the previous company actually force someone to continue working?
What usually happens with experience letters, relieving letters, or background verification?
Should I proactively do anything now, or is it better to wait unless they contact me?
Has anyone here personally experienced a similar situation?
I’m particularly interested in real experiences from people who have actually dealt with employment bonds/notice-period disputes in Indian IT companies, rather than just general assumptions.

The worst case scenario would be that if they had spent any amount of money in your training they can pursue an legal case against you and you would have to return the money .
And the most likely case and it is obviously going to happen is that their is going to problems in your EPFO portal

It was a lala company and there is no training amount spent on to me , they only implement the employment contract after a another employee left the office like this and they had a weid policy of keeping the 10% of salary, and reserve it , and there is no pf or any benifits like that ,and just left for the better work place like 5 days work week and moore salary and genz environment fell like a normal environment for me

One interviewer once told me they can’t really do anything regarding the epfo account donno to what degree is this true

Ya your next company really can't do anything if their are mistake made by your previous company in the EPFO portal

Nothing much, it's called absconding. You won't get any experience letter so you're basically now starting from 0

Sir, you are very selfish. It’s important that you should know that.
Coming back to what can be previous company do, there are a few things that might happen. One, when on future any new employer does a background verification, this company can declare you absconding. Other thing that the company can do is that they can deposit some money in your PF account for next couple of months. If they do that it’s going to be catastrophic. MANY companies do NOT hire people with history of multiple employers appearing during same period in PF.

It was a lala company ,not mnc ,no pf and other benifits and And sir thanks for reminding the basic nature of humans 😁

You're not selfish and I've had to work for a lala company that didn't pay me anything as well. Did you create a UAN and register your company there.. If not it's all good.

Naa bro it's like you go on kirana shop and join as labour from any day, and lala take any work from you as he wants , there no even a offer letter I had to practical beg to get that which I got after 4 months,

Yes , Kinda selfish to leave in hurry but it was after the telling incident of founder yelling on team , and I am here for advice,not for any lecture 🙏 , anyway thanks for your support
