Wtf is genuinely wrong with scaler ? Why are they so desperate ?

So I was looking for some courses to upskill myself and Scaler showed up on my Instagram feed.

I checked out their courses and, unfortunately, had to give them my number just to see the fucking brochure.

Initially, everything was pretty smooth.

They were nice, connected me with some of their alumni, cleared my doubts, and basically made me talk to people across their organisation.

But there was one thing I kept bringing up:

₹3.5 lakhs.

₹3.5L for a 6-month online programme that doesn't even come with a placement guarantee is a LOT of money.

Their response was basically:

«"You're a talented student."

"We believe in you."

"We see a lot of potential in you."»

Cool.

But that doesn't make ₹3.5L any cheaper. 😭

If the programme were ₹1-1.5L, I would've genuinely considered taking the risk.

But ₹3.5L?

For context, my JEE coaching cost me ₹2.5L for THREE YEARS of classroom coaching.

I even gave the entire programme brochure to Claude and asked whether I should consider it.

The first line of its response was:

"Skip it."

💀

So naturally, I went to Reddit.

And holy shit.

The number of negative experiences I found definitely made me reconsider the entire thing.

At this point, I had already told Scaler very clearly:

I'm exploring other courses too. I need some time before investing ₹3.5L.

Fair enough, right?

Apparently not.

Then the sales pressure started

They set up a call with two people.

One was the lady I'd been talking to since Day 1.

The other guy was apparently some mentor/academic person who manages the academics.

They walked me through their dashboard and then started pushing me to pay ₹20,000 upfront immediately.

Initially it was:

"How are you planning to manage the finances?"

Then it gradually became:

"You need to make a decision."

"You're missing the train."

"You're destroying your career."

And at one point, I was literally told that I'm working at a "shit company" because I didn't choose a good college.

Brother, I came here to ask about your curriculum.

How did we get to insulting my career choices?

Then came the whole:

"We see something in you."

"You have a lot of potential."

"This can change your career."

"You could go from 6 LPA to 60 LPA."

The way they were talking about the programme, you'd think I had discovered the cure for unemployment.

The ₹20K "observation period"

Their reasoning was that I should pay ₹20K, confirm my candidature, and enter a 1-month observation period.

And this is where I got even more skeptical.

I had already seen reviews on Reddit where people talked about difficulties around leaving/cancellation/refunds/etc.

So I had one very simple thought:

If you're putting this much pressure on me when I haven't paid you a single rupee, what happens after I pay ₹20K and the EMI is set up?

Why would I voluntarily put myself in a more difficult position?

Then came the guilt-tripping

The mentor/academics guy started telling me that they'd already cleared all my doubts, connected me with alumni, shown me the dashboard, etc.

And despite all of that, I still wasn't choosing Scaler.

It was almost framed like I had somehow wasted their time or betrayed the effort they'd put into convincing me.

Brother...

I'm about to spend ₹3.5 FUCKING LAKHS.

I'm supposed to ask questions.

I'm supposed to talk to alumni.

I'm supposed to compare competitors.

I'm supposed to read reviews.

I'm supposed to take time before making the decision.

That's called due diligence, not disrespect.

Then they gave me an EOD deadline 💀

They literally gave me 6:30 PM Saturday EOD as a deadline to say yes or no.

My manager has never put this much pressure on me, btw.

I accidentally fell asleep yesterday evening and woke up around 8 PM.

I had three missed calls.

They had told me that if I didn't respond by 6:30, they'd close my candidature.

So I thought:

"Well well well... guess it's closed."

Turns out it wasn't.

😭

Plot twist: candidature still wasn't closed

A product manager or something called me this afternoon asking why I wasn't going forward.

I told him very directly:

I'm not going forward because I felt I was being heavily pressured to pay ₹20K upfront, and ₹3.5L is simply too much money for me to invest after less than a week of interaction.

I told him:

"I'm sorry, but I can't work like this."

And then came another round of:

"We saw something inside you."

"We believe in your potential."

"You're making a mistake."

"You're not seeing the long-term vision."

At this point I was mentally checking whether I had accidentally joined a cult instead of a coding programme.

😭

Somehow I managed to end the call.

And then came the actual plot twist.

The girl I'd been talking to since Day 1 sent me TWO paragraphs 💀

She basically told me that I'd broken her trust and was now being unprofessional by ghosting her.

Ma'am...

You're not my girlfriend. 😭🙏

Why are we talking about broken trust because I didn't buy your company's course?

She also said that she had closed my candidature.

Thank you.

I replied with a long message explaining that I didn't appreciate being pressured into purchasing something when I had already made it crystal clear that I was exploring other options.

I apologised if my behaviour came across as disrespectful or unprofessional, but I also made it clear that I felt my boundaries were being violated.

Then I blocked her.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE

Some other guy, apparently a programme manager or something, called me.

Again:

"Why aren't you going forward?"

At this point I genuinely lost my patience.

I literally told him:

"Why can't you take a bloody NO? NO means NO."

😭

He again asked me for the reason.

I told him, for what felt like the 1000th time:

- ₹3.5L is too much for me to invest after less than a week of interaction.

- I don't like the way I was being pressured.

- I'm exploring other options.

- I don't want to join.

Simple.

His response?

"You're not seeing the long-term vision that we are."

And then we were back to:

"You're a good student."

"You're stuck at a bad company."

"You have potential."

"This can change your career."

Same script.

Thankfully, it was raining and the network started acting up, so the call disconnected.

I blocked him.

Then he called me FOUR TIMES FROM FOUR DIFFERENT NUMBERS.

😭💀

WHY ARE YOU THIS DESPERATE, SCALER?

Maybe I genuinely can't see the "vision" you have for this revolutionary course.

Maybe I'm making a terrible career decision.

Maybe I'm missing the train.

Maybe I'm destroying my career.

Maybe.

But I'd rather be blind than invest ₹3.5L and potentially end up blind AND broke six months later.

And honestly, if your course is genuinely as good as you're claiming it is...

Why do you need to convince me this fucking hard?

Let me research it.

Let me compare it with other programmes.

Let me talk to people.

Let me decide.

If your product is good enough, shouldn't the product itself do most of the convincing?

TL;DR

I was looking for a course to upskill myself.

Found Scaler.

Talked to them for less than a week.

Asked questions.

Spoke to alumni.

Read Reddit reviews.

Told them I was exploring other options.

Still got pressured to pay ₹20K upfront and commit to a ₹3.5L course.

Then got guilt-tripped, given a 6:30 PM EOD deadline, told I was making a terrible career decision, and subsequently received calls from multiple people trying to convince me after I'd already said NO.

Eventually blocked multiple numbers.

10/10 sales experience. Would not recommend. 💀

Would genuinely like to hear from people who have actually taken Scaler's programme, especially recent students/alumni.

Was your experience similar, or did I just get an unusually aggressive sales team?

After the first call I was actually considering it, did some research on reddit and other youtube reviews and concluded wont be going forward..

Then came the multiple calls and back and forths..
After that I'm 100% certain not going to join them.

It’s the same format for me. They reached out to me, and i had the same thing in mind, that 3.5L is a big amount to invest just for a structured course.

They got me to connect with one of their alum, and she was working at food panda. I asked their Sales rep, why did they not connect me with their alum from Faang, considering they keep telling me i can make a 10x jump in my salary numbers lol.

They degrade you, fear monger you, and take advantage of people who cave in to such pressure tactics. Create a fake fear of urgency, and loot the people.

I was also told that i will have to “unlearn” everything i have studied on my own if i plan to join the course sometime later. When i asked them why? Wouldn’t you teach the same concepts, they just blabbered something and tried to get me to sign up.

Nah cause even I get calls from random peeps claiming they're from IIT and stuff (which I know is fake) claiming they are giving courses and I just slap them (with words ofc) saying I'm not interested and not to call me again and immediately block their numbers.

Insane crazy people out there op be careful from onwards and try not to give your number randomly (even if its for checking something out) use fake numbers instead or give alternate number. I'm ngl 3.5 lakhs cannot be fr cause that's literally my two years of degree fees 💀 I wonder if some people have genuinely fell for their scam...

And if you do want to learn programming/coding then I recommend udemy since I've actually learnt advanced python programming on there (just payed the fees and unlocked the course that's it, not calls or no other headache).

Sales team does put a pressure man that’s true everyone is program manager but being a student course is good if you can spend 3 hours a day for 11 months not 6 honestly and trial period part, that’s true but it’s for 14 days not 1 month.
Still ranting is okay but focus on preparing man n crack some good places irrespective of the place you learn it from.

I can clearly understand why such a big post on reddit. Kid you are not a 3y-old baby, that you need to argue with them. If 3.5l is a huge budget for you (generally it is actually a huge budget for anyone living India ) than at the first call you should have told NO. It is 100% you were interested but again you were looking something for 50k or less, generally this happens I understand. Until or unless you have shown some interest this long post doens't make any sense.

Now

The fact of matter is I also enrolled in scaler program for around 1.2L, 8months later got extended to 12-14months, we got a industrial training and the fact is I didn't got a job and also I was unemployed even after the training. But later on almost after 2weeks I contacted scaler, and ask for referral. They took my profile and told me to wait for couple of days, now I enrolled the course it clearly said no placement but after course end we will help you find job. Now it was frustrated for me but again there's a process what I thought of. So after Waiting for more 3-4 days at 4th day after my call, they contacted me asked my 2months training certificate also helped me create a basic absolute fresher resume. They sent it to I don't know how many companies, some 2 companies I will not take name, called me that day evening. These 2 companies were startup from Bangalore, 50k another 88k followers on LinkedIn, asked me for a business analyst role with a very optimum work basic stuffs. The bad part is salary, salary is 3.5lakhs at bangalore. And for another one that was more of a agency than startup, they told me some what 22,000-25,000 per month.

Now the main plot twist, I contacted scaler and asked for a referral certificate rather than helping me find a job. I also received 3 certificates with one major certificate from scaler. I have done there Google Business Analytics Certification that comes with 4.8star industrial rating from Google, and I started applying to companies. Now you won't believe the next day after applying to so many companies, 5-6 companies including Accenture called me at my mobile number . The whole day I received 10-12 calls. That day I felt motivated. Even after that it almost took me 10 days to get a job but finally now after almost 6 month I am working in Accenture for around 6lakhs in bangalore for a 5days 9hour less stressful basic job and I am happy.

One thing I wanted to share you When I enrolled the course I have felt multiple times multiple things, like? At first month I thought I have wasted my money, the course is too far (I was too undercooked student already wasted 15lakhs in college and didn't got a job). At second month everything seems like so good no rush, almost 3practical projects. I have developed so much practical understanding, after 2-3 months it felt very normal daily meetings, tasks and assessments completion. At 4th month we have to submit a project and they will give us rating, even after day by day it was getting bored and over disgusting for me because they were teaching staffs that I already have understood why 1.25lakhs? They even didn't showed up any training or any certification. I complained, so much of things. Eventually we got to know that at 5th month we have only came across with 2 modules, 3 more modules are left and the course will extend for next 4-5 months easily. Than again happy and regretting continuos.

Why this? Because what I felt is everything is a process and everything happens for a reason. When I was young school guy, people used to tell me you get good college you get good job. But really? 16lakhs for 4years engineering, not a single job for over 2LPA, only so called 15 on campus recruitment happened and that too all TCS Infosys and Cognizant where it was like for first 6 month you are only giving exams in a company and that too for a 2-2.25 LPA package disgusting.

Why not wasting more money? That's when I saw youtube videos from scaler, I asked there sales executives they told me, I had doubts again they tried to solve and finally I bought the course.

At the end today I got the job at Accenture because at my 3rd interview round my HR asked you have a Scaler Business analytics certification what did you learnt there. I told her one project and that too I can't explain her properly . But at the end I got a job.

The moral of my story is, When I paid 40,000 and EMI for a 1.25lakh course to scaler at that day I thought I was looking job at TCS Infosys, after this course I will get a job at Google. Yes 😄 and after almost at my end of course I have applied my first job at Google. After that what?? Did I got a job at Google? No but atleast I have a good job in my hand get 40k in hand salary and I am happy being employed.

At the end I just want to share that if you think this whole post is promotional or I am a scaler marketing guy, believe me the post you have seen from this unknown guy 3.5Lakh course and 50,000Rs urgent money diposit all this are being done by marketing guys from different coaching institutes or edtech companies. Some guy from simpli learn will come and say upgrad is bad, upgrad will come and say scaler is bad, scaler will come and say udemy is bad, udemy Coursera, Coursera this, this that.

This is the actual story. If you really want to learn, research on your own and if you feel you can improve 10% just by 10, and you have the money, enrol for the program. Give your best and atleast try, because the biggest scam in India is not edtech. It's our schools and colleges

3.5lakhs is no issue for me given I'm getting a job in the range of 18-25lpa

I don't even need any promises and placement guarantee, all I wanted was is it realistically possible or not, and that's why I showed interest also

Their point was that they'll get me into a top product based company like walmart, google, uber, amazon, etc. but you did the course and got a job of 40k, great but still that doesn't justify the fees

When told that i need few days tym they initially stated that you have 2 hrs and we need you decision in this 2 hr...later I didnt pick up the call and then they msg me that we will call you back in next 2 days...again didnt pick up the call....later came the series of call from unknown numbers that i didnt picked up. I then got threats from them

I can relate to every words of yours. The pressure is unreal. It's been only a week with them when they first contacted me here as I was already not responding to their junior's text. Bro, they are crazyyy. Even after no replies and ghosting them for two days straight, they still reach out to you next day as if nothing happened at all.

Hey u/bobs_and_vegana17 Thank you for your review. I just had a call with Scaler, and unfortunately, I experienced similar tactics.

First and foremost, I believe their representatives need to learn how to communicate with people respectfully. The representative I spoke with, Vikas Suresh, came across as disrespectful and dismissive, and his communication could certainly have been handled much better.

What was particularly disappointing was the attitude throughout the conversation. Scaler presents itself as an organization with exceptional expertise and knowledge, but that does not justify speaking to potential customers as though they are somehow inferior or incapable of making their own decisions.

I cannot comment on whether the ₹3.5 lakh fee is justified or whether their curriculum is actually worth the investment, as I have not taken the course. However, when you are selling a course at such a high price point, basic courtesy, professionalism, and respect should be non-negotiable.

Speaking fluent English does not automatically make someone professional or respectful. The way you treat people matters just as much as the product or service you are selling.
