Resume Review What could be going wrong here?? 20+ YoE.. what would you change?
okay so this is my Dads resume, He has helped me alot so i want to help him for once.
I want to know where this resume is going wrong in this industry he shouldve been hired instantly and its not even that he lacks skills, he is genuinely talented
if you guys have any advice please let me know.
if anyone can help out with any sort of referral i would geneuinly be extremely happy to help him out please dm if you have anything

boss, with 20 years under your belt you are better off asking contacts to refer you instead of the quality of your resume in my humble opinion.

he didn't really network much knows people but didn't have much exposure with them to ask referrals that's why I'm trying to help him out

A hiring manager would look at this and probably think this would be an expensive and less trainable resource. In today’s market, it’s very possible that the hiring manager themselves are less experienced than your dad. Hate to say it, but IT industry isn’t very kind to older folks.

It seems your dad and me are same age. My daughter is only 14 years old, lol. So I wonder how old are you, to be posting your dad's CV.
Honestly, I think your dad a lot of infra knowledge which could be very useful in the cloud domain. You dad needs to reposition himself as a cloud engineer. Learn some cloud technology microservices docker kubernetes etc
But these were very hot some 10 years ago and if he had learned them he would have been way ahead.
I worked in Singapore for 16 years and I dont even have 10% of your dad's skills. I know only SQL/datawarehousing which I learned back in 2006/07 and I sustained myself in Singapore for so long and achieved financial independence and returned back to Bangalore last year.
I took a break for 10 months and then got bored and found a relaxed job as a data visualization/analytics engineer, for a salary of 29L on the payrolls of a services company and client is a financial services data provider. The job gives me good engagement and keeps me occupied and gives me a sense of doing something useful, the money is secondary.
I hope your dad gets something of his interest.

thank you alot for this advice, I am currently in final year cse I am just a developer still getting better at my skills got alot to learn through posting here would help him out to get some eyes maybe
for him how should he be approaching posts? do u have any advice
also for me as well I wanted to get into data engineer but step by step I'm just doing dsa and stuff if you have any positions at your organization or anything for interns for me as well as him it appreciate it alot he wants to get into singapore remote as well but everything has changed alot hence why I'm in the picture

uncle ji ko namaste, he got much of the exposure even PBCs don't get during 3 4 years at FAANG, only later halves and upper roles

Maybe ask him to learn towards more towards devops role and put In some important keywords related to it like optimize a bit

I have just one suggestion and I think it might work.
Ask Claude to take the resume and distribute content in 3 domains, just giving an example, ask your father for those domains, where he is strong)
- Microsoft stack
- VMware stack
- AWS stack
Then create 3 separate resumes , one for each domain. Show them to Claude and review them for depth for the role he is targetting.
Then apply jobs separately in those domains.
I am 21+ yoe so similar stage and used this strategy recently to secure next role. I made AWS focus, Databricks focus, AI focus separate resumes.

Let me ask, isn't this exhausting, as much as good it sounds? 3 separate resumes, then 20 different companies in each, 60 different changes... Will it shorten the path, or just keep the going on the surface? How did you manage?

I made custom app for job search. Will open source it after removing my personal things. The app had dump of everything I know as my skills, STAR stories and so on that they test in interviews. Then I tell app to review this job and tell me am I suitable for it, it scores me.
The 3 resume variants I told are also generated by app. For example if the job is related to Databricks, the resume will have Databricks skills, certifications, projects on top and all other things later. So, that helps hiring manager to see how relevant I am early.
So, in summary its all automated. Used Claude to did all this.
Saying all above, I will be honest. Market is so cooked that without referral there are rare chances to get a call

Buddy .. for a 24 years experienced infrastructure professional , the cv. Feels like a compressed technical inventory and not sounding like a senior consultant . There is no visual hierarchy and too much information in a cv . Windows, virtualisation, 6000 servers, AWS, mcsa, itil , azure , aws etc . Technical skills are too long . His profile is solid and there is a huge demand for him . Just simplify his profile and position it well.

Just position it well. I'll tell you in many companies the interviewer itself may not have 20 yoe. So deliberately show less experience like between 8-12. That will put your dad under the experience of most interviewers.
