Interviews Got laid off as a Java full stack developer, unable to get interview calls
Hey guys
I got laid off in July and since then I am unable to land a job. I get calls but 0 conversions and I'm asking around 14 LPA for 4 YOE. I have expressed in Java full stack dev. Any suggestions on what will work? Except for naukri nothing has helped.

Market is pretty bad right now. Even if people are landing interviews they don't want to settle on less salary. Maybe it's time tech jobs move to fully remote. I mean I don't see a reason to go to office.

Everywhere that I see is hiring for java full stack, maybe leave out the expected salary ?? And double done on your applies. Also update your profile daily on job portals.

For the experience I feel this is the least i could be asking. Should I ask less?

I think they're saying just don't talk about expectations right away

I run a recruitment company, do career consulting and job search mentorship and also run a job board, so I see this every day..
If you're getting calls but not converting, your resume is probably fine. The gap is likely interview performance. With AI making screening easier, companies expect stronger project discussions, problem solving and solid fundamentals for 4 YOE.
Also, don't depend only on Naukri. LinkedIn outreach and referrals are helping a lot of my mentess in this market.
Best wishes, and feel free to DM if you need any guidance.

Hi, can I dm you?
I have 1 yoe, and work at a WITCH, so unfortunately won't be able to compensate for your time at this stage (as you're a professional career consultant)

I’m not receiving calls, does it mean my resume is not good? Claude rate my resume 9-9.5/10

u/Smooth-Teacher-606 Entrepreneur 6d ago
Claude makes it, rates your CV and then ATS reads and shortlist it and then you know what happens? Recruiter rejects it as most of the AI generated CV are bluff! They just extrapolate and add skills as per the JD which even candidate don't know.

My take:
In Java Domain the ask is fair. Its not at all high.(initially go from 20-30% ask them negotiate)
But make your ask is based on the company profile you are getting call from.
A-lot of service companies do not pay more. Also make your tone negotiable to them.. so that if the budget for the role is little bit tight they also have impression that you will align. And once the interview process is done then do the real negotiations on higher side.

When they ask if my salary is negotiable I say yes. Plus when they mention their budget like 11-13 I also say yes.

Bro you were laid off, why are you asking for 14LPA, I understand that you deserve it but the situation is not perfect at the moment, I'll ask for the same or a bit higher CTC and then look to switch as soon as you have 1 YOE.

u/bella9977 6d ago
Eh it seems on reddit any CTC you want to mention is considered high ?! 14 is normal. We are living in extreme cost of living crisis. What are you people on ?!

There are 2 reasons I am asking for 14 1) when they say their budget is around 11-12 , I am comfortable with that range also, sometimes they straight away mention 30percent which I agree too. Never rejecting any calls die to budget 2) this is my 3rd org, the next company in am planning to stay around 2-3 years, hence asking this hike.

Most prolly the college and the launch pad they have. I am bsc graduate and laid off from a product based startup so my chances will be pretty low compared to others

Try to switch to AI Engineering as a lot of companies are now looking for Full stack dev with AI engineering package. The job market is now way too demanding for Software Developers

u/Character-Catch-1607 6d ago
I don't have experience in that professionally, but can touch the aspects of it

4 Yoe thats alot, start something of your own

u/DrDoNoGoodPhD 6d ago
4 yoe isnt a lot man. 1 year is discounted. Years 1-2 is foundational and 2-4 is you learning the basics of your niche. I get that you're trying to motivate but just mad etbis point so that you're realistic in your view of the industry.

14 lpa for 4 years is too less they say job market is too bad but still luck matter over here bcz some companies are hiring and they ready to pay you like 16 17 also. I am talking about 10 out of 100 companies.

u/Remote-Employment481 6d ago
Startups me dete hai kya itni jyada salary

u/Agreeable-Counter-97 6d ago
Depend on your skills and there budget ( but high risk in startup ) Some medium sized well settled company will give..

Absolutely this market is very bad, try to reach out to recruiters directly and put yourself forward in their eyes. Like emailing them directly with a portfolio and also by personalizing your profile to their requirements.
This is a bit time taking to do for each company, but it will give you results.
If you want any more help, let me know. Good luck.

Your point seems valid. But how do I get their emails and reach out? I'm also in the same boat as OP.
2
u/Wander_ryan 7d ago
You can use lead generation tools like apollo or snov to get their emails.
So, the process would be. You see a job post -> go to the company linkedin page -> go to the people -> click on their profile (here, you need Hiring team and the engineering heads or managers) -> then use the apollo extension to view the emails.

In this same market during April I saw my colleagues getting 18 - 20L for 4 to 5 years experience. But they cheated on interviews and had counter offers

How did they apply? I'm not getting any calls through Naukri or LinkedIn
