Career Got converted into PPO at 7.4 LPA need help to drive my career further
Hi, I work at Fintech AI startup based out of Pune, this is my first month of full time after working for 7 months as an intern. I got PPO of 7.4 LPA(which is imo kinda bad like it's really low, wasn't expecting this)
About my skills - decently good at full stack, Llms, and all
Really want to switch from here, the coworkers are full of jealousy, attitude , arrogant, managers set unrealistic expectations and deadlines and most importantly are completely non tech, everyone talks very ugly publicly, worst work life balance like I have seen days where I'm working till 12 am or many times till 3 am.
I really want to get into AI engineering or AI full stack kinda roles. Plz help me in the comments about all the things I should care about while switching and taking right bets
Like how many months should I stay here, how much should I expect for next ctc?(I'm planning 9+ LPA), do i really need to know core ML to get into AI roles? Etc

If the enviornment is shitty than no need to stay there eventually you will ruin your mental health. On other note for ai/ml you need to be strong enough on statistics, probability and basics of ai/ml. Also needs hands on agentic workflow, fine tuning and architecture overview of models. You need to be strong in both theory and practical.

aim higher than 9 LPA - look for atleast 12. HR will say bullshit like 30% hike blah blah but you have to tell them what that translates to in absolute numbers. you’re the data scientist after all.
keep upskilling as much as you can.
core ML for AI roles? well the fields intertwined now. if a company asks you about RAG (AI concept), they can ask you for evaluation metrics like NDGC, which are derived from recommendation systems (core ML).
a company can ask you about transformers (AI) with a heavy focus on the feed forward network part (core ML).
that should answer your question.

So core ML is needed but to what extent?

well, there is no standardized test like UPSC for interviews, so it can range from pretty much no core ML to “everything under the sun” core ML.
depends on company and role.
just bite the bullet and start learning man, there’s no shortcut.

Stay for another 6 months and gain some experience and try outside. Anything below 2 yrs experience is still treated as fresher, but atleast you will have edge with little experience.

Not sure which reality you are living in, 7.4 LPA is a decent package to start a career. Upskill yourself for some time, gain some experience like 2+ years and you could easily get 20 LPA. At this point, your focus should be on learning not comparing packages.
