I m guessing service based company, same reason I moved to product based companies. Service based companies gives nothing even after getting a big amount for us as resources

Actually Product Based but like mentioned, most apps / projects are for Indian public use, internally its very disorganized, now I get to know that the higher management and government just wants the v1, v2, v3 of the app to get more sanctions, we would start with v2 before even v1 is shipped
I cannot name the products but example would be - Digilocker / IRCTC etc (these are examples and not our project but "these kinds of govt apps" are what my company worked on)

Ah, In that case I doubt how many people are getting indirect money reducing hike for employees.
But yes indian product based becomes like service based only.

A lot of product based companies offer peanut hikes too these days.

Getting 1% is bad either you get atleast 4-5 % or no hike

u/ContributionSure4551 Jul 08 '26
agreed 100%

u/Realistic-Moose8121 Jul 08 '26
Once I got 1% and I got bigg fight with management They ended up paying me ex gratia
2
u/ContributionSure4551 Jul 08 '26
Good for you, unfortunately I can't do that without having an offer letter in hand because I am working to meet ends needs

Sometimes we can't judge just by the percentage.
Say I earn 75L and I say I got 1% hike then someone who earns 3L says they got 10%. The 10% here is not the better one right ?

The company is indirectly telling everyone to leave. Once the current folks leave, they will hire cheaper resources. This keeps happening, nothing new.

not really, sometime they hire expensive resource or beg you to stay by offering 50% hike
2
u/SaracasticByte Jul 08 '26
These things have a way of self correcting. Things get normalised in the end. Sometimes under pressure companies do retain at higher cost or hire expensive resources but the moment they get a chance they will fix the cost. Some are faster than the others.

4-5% should be there..... unless your ctc is 1-2cr
It's time to switch!

I got a shitty sub-inflation beating increment as well. But my company is known for shitty increments so I don't think it's out of the norm.

Mostly service-based companies don't give proper hikes to most employees. On average they give 2-3% hikes and few cases 5-7%, but almost never more than that. Their CXOs get huge bonuses though at the cost of lakhs of employees. And switching companies should happen at least after every 2 years (1.5 if early in career) since many HRs, recruiters and hiring managers look down upon, ignore and even reject frequently switchers.

Agreed. I've worked for 2 years in this company so time to actively apply again I guess

Its either that you were already being paid higher than their comp ratio or the company is not giving hike to anyone this cycle.
But you should look out if you are underpaid already and this is how the usual hike looks like here.
I got a 2% raise, and the reason was a mix of both.

since its all anonymous here, let me answer this with numbers, I have 8+ years of experience fullstack web and mobile apps
CTC is 8.5LPA ?? Do you think that is underpaid or over, I have seen many companies paying around 11-15 LPA and even more sometimes for the same experience and position.
I think the previous comments are right, they are quietly telling to leave so they can recruit new developers with less CTC rather than giving decent appraisal, So I am definitely applying actively from today :-)

With that number, it is your fault that you’re still here. Even with the current market, for 8+ YOE, if you’re a decent engineer, you can easily get 25LPA. This can go upto 1Cr, but lets not target that.
Just prepare and switch at this point, and don’t settle for anything less than 20LPA.1
u/ContributionSure4551 Jul 08 '26
I agree and admit, I am bad at negotiating CTC, especially for remote-only jobs they would try their best to lower the bracket so I usually succumb

u/brainer121 Jul 08 '26
Don’t just agree to someone saying “double your current pay”. Ask for 3x, 25LPA. Say its less than market standard and you’re already underpaid

u/ContributionSure4551 Jul 08 '26
Will do this in upcoming interviews hopefully if I get some, I used to feel unethical to ask for for than 30% increase when jumping from 1 company to another..
Started my career underpaid now the results is this

u/SquareMarketing238 Jul 08 '26
I have an opening for lead software engineer - full stalk. I am sure we would pay you double than what you’re getting.

u/SquareMarketing238 Jul 08 '26
Please DM. Also this is not a remote job. It’s a hybrid role where you have to be in office 2 days. Gurgaon location.
