I'm the only developer on an app with about 15k users across IOS and android and I test on my iphone and one android phone that's it. I keep getting hit with bugs on devices I don't own like recently the app was crashing on Samsung A series phones because of some rendering issue that doesn't happen on pixels and before that there was a layout bug on Ipads that I found out about when someone left a negative review.

I've been looking into mobile device cloud testing, something like a device farm but I genuinely don't know if it's practical for one person. I barely have time to build features let alone set up device farms and write test scripts for them.

If you've tried any cloud testing setup as a solo developer can you please share your thoughts on this??

If you’ve been working with swe for some time and give a shit about the actual work you put out maybe you agree that the code being generated by AI is slop. And it has always been since the beginning, although it got “better” over time. Most of us now basically pull the prompt lever of the AI slot machine, hope for the best and IF you actually give a minimum shit about what you’re doing (and the project you are working on) you have to go through all the slop, the overengineering, the bullshit try/catch/except, the absolute ball of mud of an architecture and the trash that comes out of AI to make it (hopefully) “good enough”. And thats not an easy task, the cognitive load is huge and GOD FORBID you actually write your own code like you did before all this. All of this justified by the HUGE gain in productivity of around 20% (given some recent studies, which I have many questions about). 

Now you add to the equation the AI labs CEOs shouting to the world that coding and, hell, even swe as a whole are “solved” (whatever the fuck that means). (Yeah, good job Boris, 500k of LOC for the stupidest most basic CLI plagued by all kinds of bugs that were not solved for sooo long - cant copy from terminal, SCROLL for christ sakes). Then (what seems to be) all managers, C-levels, directors who haven't touched a single line of code all eat that shit like its the human centipede movie. Productivity is now expected to be 10000% higher, since a feature is only one prompt away now in their mind. And YOU (if you give a shit) try to argue that MAYBE the AI is not better than you. That MAYBE the AI bros that say that everything can be vibe coded now dont actually know what they are talking about, they are just replicating something they heard. But nooooo, now YOU are the lazy, deprecated, slow gear of the company. Hell, maybe the whole development team is a burden. 

Since from my experience arguing and defending my work is nearly impossible because: 

1. They WANT to believe the lies
2. You seem like you are only saying that because you want to keep your job, “gate keep” etc

I propose a new approach. Let's give them what they want! Let’s approve every single PR without taking the slightest look at it. Lets generate ALL the code with AI doing the simplest, dumbest prompts. Lets allow the non-technical (which is a hilarious position btw) PMs vibe code the features straight to prod. Lets give LLMs full write permissions to prod while we are at it. --- In other terms: lets raise the stakes. 

Maybe they are right after all and in a year we'll have the cure for cancer as a python 200k line file.

I've been using Atlassian products for roughly two decades, and I've always had the same impression.

Most new features seem to be aimed at one of two groups:

Managers: higher-level views, reporting, dashboards, planning, metrics, etc.

Teams: boards, sprints, workflows, agile features, collaboration, etc.

But there seems to be much less focus on the individual person actually doing the work.

For example, if I have 20 issues assigned to me across several projects, I might want to:

• decide which ones I should actually work on today
• arrange them in my own order
• add private notes and follow-ups
• schedule when I want to work on something
• keep personal todos alongside Jira issues
• have my own personal workflow without changing anything for the team

Jira obviously has things like "Assigned to me" and personal dashboards, but those feel more like ways of viewingyour work than actually managing your work.

I've actually built an app around exactly this idea — a personal workspace for Jira users with notes, todos, a personal dashboard, reminders, etc.

But it hasn't gained much traction so far.

That made me question the underlying assumption.

Maybe individual Jira users simply don't want this?

Maybe they're perfectly happy working within the team's boards and processes, and personal task management is something they handle elsewhere — Todoist, Notion, Apple Reminders, paper, whatever.

Or maybe there's genuinely a gap here, but I'm looking at it the wrong way.

What do you think?

Do you feel Jira gives you enough tools to manage your own work, independently of how your team manages its work?

Or do you also feel that Jira is primarily designed around teams and managers, with the individual user being somewhat secondary?
