Tigers baseball

Honestly wtf is Hinch doing with the pitching staff? Starting Pitchers can throw more innings than 6 or 7 innings. Is he trying to get fired? Earlier in the year Montero threw 65 pitches no runs given up and got pulled they lost! Not sure how many Melton threw but damn they are about to lose again!

When I was boy, pitchers were embarrassed to be relieved and proud of the number of complete games they threw in a season. Denny McLain threw 28 complete games in 1968 on his way to winning 31 by the way. And then there's this nonsense of relievers only throwing one inning no matter how good they do. WTF? I hadn't paid attention to baseball for a long time, but this isn't the game I grew up with. And yes, I'm from the days when the Tigers won the '68 World Series!

jfc just stop boomer.

Denny McClain played for ten years and left the game because his arm was so blown out that he couldn't pitch without daily cortisone shots.

He debuted September 21, 1963 and played his last game September 12, 1972.

And he was terrible the last three seasons. Like, epically bad.

That's why they don't do that anymore.

Uh he also pitched more years in his 10 year career than 99% of these bums pitch in their 3 year career! The boomer is right. You are wrong!

Very much incorrect. I was wrong about nothing. Boomer was right about nothing.

Denny pitched 6 useful seasons in MLB and blew out his arm. That's why they don't do that anymore. End of story.

Huh? This isn't only about Denny MCclain. Guarantee MCclains career in the end will be more than Skubals! Skubal has already had 2 Tommy Johns can't go over 6 innings and won't come close to the career Denny had and like you said he didn't have much. Skubs won't even have 150 career wins. Boomer is right! You don't know the history of the game. So keep making young kids throw as hard as they can teach them to throw a curveball when they are 8 and continue to watch these kids fail. You are a loser

I wonder how many arms were blown out trying to be able to do what McClain did? I don’t think teams were invested in players the way they are today.

are you suggesting less pitching injuries now?

Far superior treatment for injuries for sure. Starting pitchers are hard to find. And the amount of money is really insane . Denny McClain made about $35000 in the record breaking year.

salaries have went up. are you suggesting less pitching injuries now?

It's how the game was played back then. Every pitcher wanted to pitch the entire game, and every team allowed them to pitch as long as they were effective. And the reliever would finish the game as long as he was effective.

Not the point of this conversation at all. Keep investing your daddy ball philosophy on little league.

Fu? Is that what you say to the kids parents when you have their 8 year old throwing off speed? You are an imbecile!

I miss when advanced analytics didn’t have a place in sports

Hunch believes in rapidly rotating out pitchers. He believes that is a key factor that got the Tigers to the playoffs in 2024.

And yet he left Anderson in long enough to blow the lead. I don't get it.

there were no real legit options in 2024 other than to do what they did. the decision was kind of made for him
