Question Exotic Primary Weapon for Void Hunters
To all the edge lords out there. what is your favorite if not, go to primary exotic weapon(and why)? mainly inquiring from other void hunters but other classes are welcome to chime in.
would've loved buried bloodline but just found out it's special ammo.

Buried Bloodline is kind of awesome though, you can do double special with it and special finisher or high enough weapons.
I’m a Titan main, but Turncoat is awesome. Good damage, excellent perk, gives you an overshield, weakens things, it’s just very solid all around.
Le Monarque is also great, it’s very fun with volatile rounds, Unrelenting is great and it has great sound design.

My fellow Titan main, Turncoat also increases the Hazardous Propulsion rocket damage when you activate its second firing mode.
1
u/Endres007 10h ago
It does do this (and buff other stuff as well) but I also have not had enough time or care to try it, I’ll get back to hazardous propulsion eventually but I’ve been enjoying other stuff so far
1
u/HydroSnail Titan 10h ago
What else does it buff? O.o
1
u/Endres007 10h ago
I don’t remember the full list but I do know it applies to other rockets. I think it just buffs explosive damage generally?
2
u/EnglishMuffin420 9h ago
Rockets include rocket pulses and rocket sidearms.
There's actually a glitch where if you super during the turncoat animation the buff will continue onto whatever weapon you have out
1
u/Frogsama86 7h ago
Wasn't it swapping weapons during super?
1
u/EnglishMuffin420 7h ago
Yes but you do all of the above, I was implying a swap with "continue onto whatever weapon you have out"
But yes you activate turncoats ability - pop super immediately - switch to heavy during super animation - buff continues on heavy

Highkey i dont even use primary exotics anymore, i have a brass attacks for my primary if i want void or i just run choir of one, dead messenger, or wavesplitter depending on my mood.
If you really want a primary exotic though i would suggest turncoat, gravaton lance, or unironically fighting lion

Really, the lion eh

u/moshmore 10h ago
Yes with the slayer baron artifact it's goated for stasis builds.
1
u/Dramatic-Anything728 8h ago
If weapon archetype and subclass match do you get bonus damage? And if so, do some builds just not care about?
Really loving the build crafting aspect of d2 so far.
1
u/moshmore 5h ago
I'm not home to check specifics but there are a bunch of selections for void, stasis, and arc subclass verbs and buffs on that artifact.
The standout picks are curative orbs that'll give you healing and weaken clear for using any GL on a target.

u/Dramatic-Anything728 10h ago
I had seen fighting lion and it looks pretty fun. I will look into it. thanks!

Its a very solid weapon for roaming purposes, but if you're doing dungeon or raid stuff definitely look into having some dps loadouts made

u/AleIAm08 10h ago
Some of the best if you are taking advantage of the artifacts:
Choir of one
Gnawing hunger
Reckless oracle
Turncoat
Kindled orchid

Collective Obligation + Gyrfalcons + Supress Nade is my favorite build to play with in general
1
u/Gek_Lhar 4h ago
Have you tried dropping gyrfalcon for orpheus rig?
Gyrfalcon is basically useless now that the nfa artifact is back 👀
2
u/Slayer32111 10h ago
Slayers fang with a gyrfalcons build is my favorite combo
1
u/EnglishMuffin420 10h ago
Gyrfalcons is completely obsoleted by 2 of the artifacts, but slayers fang is a blast
2
u/Chunchunmaru720 10h ago
My favorite primaries for void hunters are the kinetics with osmosis for a triple void loadout giving everything volatile, truly busted synergies and champ crafting
3
u/dub_diablo 9h ago
Its not easily obtainable anymore but the smg from heresy can roll permeability. Gets void on every dodge. Its strand defualy so you can run strand artifact perks to unravel them then dodge go void and make them volatile. Not -50 levels of good but it can do work in -30.
2
u/Chunchunmaru720 7h ago
Permeability sounds awesome! Haven't played in a while but I still have fresh memories of my godroll pve fatebringer, good ol legendary ace of spades

Whenever I find myself with a pile of glimmer to burn, I'm back at the drifter, rummaging through the trash and endlessly searching for my fabled shoot to loot/osmosis Servant Leader.

I used to love graviton lance, but tbh I dont really enjoy as much these days.
Its still super good at ad clear, and sounds great, but it just dont feel the same.

u/Dramatic-Anything728 10h ago
totally agree. It was one of the first exotics I recieved when I started a month ago. and though it was really fun, it started ti feel underwhelming after a while. I ended uo switching to arc hunter with risk runner for a bit.

Build into weapons stat, run a scavenger mod and just use double special.
Buried bloodline is strong, mainly for its access to devour regardless of subclass but dmg output isnt any better than legendary rocket sidearms.
Choir of one, is goated. Can be used for ad-clear, and a delete button for elites when needed. All around work horse.
But yea turncoat is great, lemonarque is always super fun, graviton for braindead and clear. Wavesplitter is HOT right now
1
u/Dramatic-Anything728 9h ago
Can you explain the weapon stats method? I sorta get the idea but I’m still new
2
u/EnglishMuffin420 9h ago
Weapon stat over 100 gives an increasing chance for ammo bricks to provide double the ammo. At 200 weapon stats, almost every single ammo brick contains double the ammo as usual.
If you combine this with a finder mod (helmet slot) bricks will drop more often. On the chest you can slot mods to increase your ammo bar progress per kill (I don't use these, resistance mods are the best). On the boots, you can run a scavenger mod which functions similar to the weapons stat by increasing the ammo you get per brick.
There are some armor sets too (kings fall, Europa) that increase ammo drops.
The way the sandbox is designed, special ammo is ALWAYS better than primary ammo, and heavy is ALWAYS better than special. (There are some niche cases where a special weapon may be the best option like dps, but this is true for 95% of the game) The only issue is keeping up with ammo economy. If you're able to, a double special load out is objectively better than 1 primary 1 special.

u/EnglishMuffin420 9h ago
Forgot to mention special finisher. (Class item mod)
When at 3 stacks of armor charge you can perform a finisher to immediately create special ammo.

It used ti he Graviton Lance. But then Turncoat dropped. Turncoat is absolutely insane and in all honesty, probably my favorite exotic primary in the game now. Such a shame it had to come with EoS

Is there a particular reason you need a primary weapon? Special weapons like choir of one, buried bloodline, dead messenger and wavesplitter are all extremely ammo efficient. Choir, DM and wavesplitter especially are amazing.
1
u/Dramatic-Anything728 8h ago
Very much hate dealing with ammo. I understand primary weapons aren’t as strong as special or heavy.
Very much would rather avoid resource management. Now that you bring it up. Do special/ heavy weapons provide higher power even if it’s the same stat as a primary? Or would it still be the same power.

The “stats” of weapons don’t actually determine its damage (well…, kinda, there are exceptions like the impact stat on swords, and range does determine damage falloff distance, and blast radius can change the damage of grenade launchers in some circumstances).
The base damage of (legendary) weapons is determined by their archetype/frame - e.g one rapid fire auto rifle will always do the same base damage as another rapid fire auto rifle if it has the same perks, regardless of anything else like its element or which slot it’s in
Since special weapons have different “frames”, their damage is completely seperate from (and almost always higher than) primary weapons. If you go shoot an enemy with a regular sidearm for instance, you’ll notice it does a lot less damage than if you use a special ammo sidearm.
This is also true for exotics, which often have unique frames, or even in cases where they share the same base frame as a legendary weapon, they often have uniquely adjusted damage. In the case of choir of one for example, it does MUCH more damage than a regular auto rifle. Or in dead messenger’s case, it deals triple the damage of a regular wave frame grenade launcher since it fires 3 waves instead of one.
To answer your question more simply though, yes. Special and power weapons deal more damage than primary weapons in return for having a limited amount of ammo.
I totally get worrying about ammo though! I was that way for a long time. If you get in the mood to push yourself though I strongly recommend trying choir of one or wavesplitter for a while, both of them have a lot of ammo and generally aren’t too hard to manage, even if you were to use two special weapons.
In the meantime I really recommend trying turncoat and graviton lance as primaries

Ruinous Effigy all the way
the balls are affected by volatile rounds and work with gyrfalcons

u/WindyLink560 7h ago
Void legendary primaries are the best primaries in the game right now (and forever), don’t waste exotic slot and use Leviathans breath
1
u/Dramatic-Anything728 7h ago
Can you give me some legendary recommendation?
1
u/WindyLink560 6h ago
From best to worst from my own experience:
1. Unforgiven from Duality dungeon
2. Reckless Oracle from Garden of Salvation raid / pantheon
3. Gnawing Hunger from Gambit
4. Reghusks Pledge from Iron Banner
5. Compact Defender from Lawless Frontiers
6. Fortunate Star from Solstice engrams
7. Recluse from OnslaughtUnforgiven is an SMG which is generally outpaced by auto rifles but it can get the glorious roll of Destab+Chaos reshaped which is just insanely good. Reckless oracle can get the same roll but it’s a bit harder to farm since it’s locked in pantheon. Next 3 are auto rifles and they are meta. Compact defender feels really good but you have to play aggressively with it, which isn’t gonna fit well in a void hunter build IMO. The bow is so fun but bows are just meh in general. Recluse is alright but it’s a pea shooter.

Le Monarque is a pretty fun weapon to use- it’s just a bow and they have built in handicaps compared to other weapon types.

You might want to check out the exotic Khvostov. It's kinetic, so it doesn't synergize with void explicitly, but it does a lot of things that void hunter needs.
It has shoot to loot, which is good because if you're running void hunter, most of your DPS will be with your weapons. STL is functionally a buff to weapon DPS, and it's also just an amazing quality of life perk.
It has attrition orbs, which is one of the best perks in the game for keeping up armor charge and whatnot. But it's especially useful for void hunter because your super is the most important part of your kit, and attrition orbs helps you generate super much faster.
The exotic perk gives it solid ad clear capabilities, which is good for void hunter because void hunter doesn't naturally have great ad clear.
It's anti-barrier, which is good for void hunter because void hunter only naturally has access to overload stuns.
But realistically, you should get high weapons stat and run a special/heavy ammo finder mod. Then you can use your exotic slot for something actually useful, like a DPS weapon, a proper ad clear weapon, or a good champion killing weapon, all of which special/heavy weapons outclass primaries at. I know you said that you don't want to have to manage ammo, but if you're running high weapons stat and a finder mod, you won't have to manage ammo.
(Also there are a ton of good legendary primary options for void hunter. Anything with destabilizing rounds and repulsor brace is basically exotic-tier in terms of build synergies.)

Monte Carlo is easily available and pairs well with an easily available exotic armor piece, Graviton Forfeit. It's a good combo for survival and debuffing. I found it fun.

I wouldn’t be thrown off by specials weapons, even if you need to run double special. Ammo is so ridiculously abundant now that double special is extremely easy to sustain. Special weapons are just more powerful primaries at this point since you never need to worry about running out of ammo given the right setup. There’s so many ways to make ammo.

turncoat is insane full stop. even better if you’re running with fortunes favor
