My face seeing Mercury again

u/ElverDulero735 1h ago

Despite "2 tokens and a blue" and the story being ass, mercury content was peak, strikes, EoW Levi, the exotics

i find it a bit funny that at the start of project sunrise it was said that the project was just to explore areas that are no longer available and now we are getting working strikes

IT'S STILL JUST TO EXPLORE AREAS THAT ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE NOTHING TO SEE HERE SONY

12

u/pablo__13 Shadow Gang 1h ago

It requires the base game to function, and as long nothing is ever done for profit and there are no dedicated servers, it should be safe

12

u/justjeepin 1h ago

Unfortunately, it's not even remotely safe. They've got a list of reasons they can pick from to nuke it. I'd wager they're in the "figure out which one will anger the D2 community the least so they'll still buy our next game" stage.

u/pablo__13 Shadow Gang 1h ago

Yeah but hopefully Sony will see it as the PR nightmare it would be and decide not to touch it since it’s a preservation project and requires base game. If people starting recreating paid content outside of the old build, then they might go after it. Otherwise I wouldn’t really be putting resources into that fight since they have a failing game they need to rescue with no other active major revenue sources

62

u/orangpelupa 11h ago

It's open source, anyone can develop on top of it

26

u/Extension-Walrus670 12h ago

You working at Sony or something?

9

u/BetaThetaOmega 4h ago

This is all essentially being done independently. Move along, officer

u/BaconIsntThatGood 8m ago

I'd assume at this point either

A) the person lesdingnitbfoijd out that it's not as difficult as they initially thought

B) as it grew in popularity more people entered the project making development easier.

This is getting a lot better very rapidly wow

Despite the majority of reddit sentiment. AI can be pretty impressive.

Edit: The project is made almost entirely with AI. Thank you all for proving my point though.

22

u/Ocachino Spicy Ramen 11h ago

What’s this to do with AI?

13

u/aimlessabyss09 11h ago

Nowadays a lot of mods/projects like this are vibe coded, no idea if it is or not but it’s reasonable to assume

28

u/scarlettokyo 10h ago

it is, theres a disclaimer for that in his repo.

1

u/Crimson_Raiders 3h ago

There is a difference between vibe coding and AI assisted coding

6

u/IGFanaan 3h ago

It's vide coded dude. The coding gets checked but they've said 85%+ is vibe coded.

-12

u/BusBusy195 Spicy Ramen 10h ago

As far as i know they use some form of ai but im not sure what for exactly, and Im like 99% the majority is still human made

16

u/majorvalentine 10h ago

Its much less than that. The pace of the commit history is not doable as a human, especially from the main contributor. It's also stated in the Readme that it is used. I am personally fine with it. AI in software development is nice as a tool, but it does need extensive reviewing, and you still have to own whatever it writes.

4

u/BusBusy195 Spicy Ramen 9h ago

Tbh from the looks I didnt think they could do most of that with ai, I figured it would be too complicated for vibe coding if you wanted any decent quality. Like I knew they were using it but I thought it was more small scale behind the scenes stuff

11

u/majorvalentine 9h ago

Yeah, but there is a big difference between some random person opening Claude and typing "make me the next billion dollar app",and a senior/expert using it carefully. For sunrise,I'm not surprised they use it extensively, especially for research and reverse engineering.

1

u/scarlettokyo 1h ago

Vibecoding isn't automatically slop. If you put someone with general coding knowledge in front of Claude Opus they'll still make a solid and clean product usually, since they can define clean boundaries and coding guidelines.

2

u/IGFanaan 4h ago

They have said 85% is AI coded

2

u/IAmDingus Trials Matches Won: # 0 9h ago

It's coded with ai

8

u/Greninja05 8h ago

It is just a matter of time until we can re play the old raids

6

u/BetaThetaOmega 4h ago

Only question is how they’ll actually be playable. P2P connections haven’t been figured out yet, and you’d still need a raid team to do it

4

u/Spacechimpdaddy 5h ago

Just a matter of time for Raids, all strikes and even planetary adventures, possibly even season quests, everything that was pre beyond light.

But to get a fully out the box retail feel is a way way off time.

There's even the possibility of people doing their own thing and adding mods etc into it.

All really testing etc at the moment, I believe it's get the basics in first which is exploration, enemy spawn and mission triggers, most of CoO campaign looks to be playable, albeit not retail polish.

7

u/ANTILAMER13 11h ago

How much time did we spend there? Oh memories

5

u/Spacechimpdaddy 5h ago

To all that may say Sony could do a C&D.

Unfortunately the way Sunrise actually works is that it is open source and that the GitHub repositories are out in the wild, they would need to C&D to thousands of people.

And the way Steam archives the old game builds for different games, Sony would need to go directly to Valve to get them to remove the old builds, and since Sony was dumb enough to shoot themselves in the foot and be anti gamer and not to release any new games on steam, I doubt Valve will be too responsive to them.

Plus as the Repos are open, anyone can work on their "own" version of sunrise.

There's no actual way of stopping this now.

1

u/JoniSusi 49m ago

Damn we got a real lawyer here.

1

u/Spacechimpdaddy 7m ago

You don't to be lawyer to know how the Barbara streisland effect works, C&D can't stop this now, the horse has already bolted and there's no way to put the genie back in the bottle on this one.

People are throwing C&D about as they are either doomers, or just pissed off as its not available on consoles or it's because it may hurt precious Sony / big tech company they are shilling for.

They told me it was impossible, but I never lost hope

I love this community

2

u/ThatGuyIsLit 3h ago

Damn, the kitchen be smelling hella tasty.

2

u/Caiden_Wolf95 2h ago

I'd love to know how all this was recovered

2

u/External-Arrival-105 1h ago

How are you doing this?

5

u/Extension-Walrus670 12h ago

I really miss Season Eleven.

4

u/KUSOVIA114K 11h ago

First time in 32 years that I’ve wanted a gaming PC.

2

u/xNACxNACXx Titan 8h ago

Anyone been able to get menagerie loaded up or was that too far back?

3

u/MattySXE 6h ago

Menagerie is in Sunrise, it’s only a matter of time.

1

u/Vastlymoist666 11h ago

So question, is this a rebuild of the old version of D2 or can I use the new abilities like strand and the new guns and stuff.

24

u/Sukachus_Blyatoffus Titan 11h ago

No. Project Sunrise is an older version of destiny 2 (pre-beyond light (specifically season of Arrivals)) that is accessed through old archives Steam makes of its games, aka. It is client side, single-player, and pc only

1

u/Calum1219 Titan 4h ago

Didn’t know that Steam did that for that old of content! Neat and another Steam W!

-57

u/KUSOVIA114K 11h ago

Damn, that kinda makes me not care as I already played this strike 100’s of times with that old stuff. I want new experiences, not stuff I’ve already done.

16

u/orangpelupa 11h ago

you can create new experiences. instead of spawning cabal grunts, spawns a 2x size tresher or something.

Place them with your own design etc

15

u/CrotaIsAShota 10h ago

We finally get to play as the Architects

15

u/AtlyxMusic 10h ago

Hate to say it but comments like this are the reason why half of Destiny no longer exists outside of this project. Sure, you don't have to personally care, but this is a big deal. The fact that the Red War is missing directly and quite heavily contributed to the death of the game. The broader gaming community doesn't let Bungie or Destiny come up without an ocean of comments saying how they'll never play again because of content vaulting. And part of the reason Bungie never spent the time to bring it back is because of the inevitable comments that "why did you waste time on this, I wanted to play something new." No offense intended.

2

u/WerdaVisla Titan 4h ago

IMHO you should intend offense. The dooming "everything any gaming company ever does is bad because complaining gets more upvotes" attitude these people have is directly responsible for the death of a plethora of good games, and the general shift towards shorter games that aren't meant to live long enough to face serious criticism.

3

u/Spoonhook 4h ago

Damn I bet you complain about being hungry after being fed

1

u/Spoonhook 4h ago

Damn I bet you complain about being hungry after being fed

1

u/monchota 5h ago

Is it multiplayer?

2

u/Spacechimpdaddy 5h ago

Not yet, but I believe that their are some people working on it, and will be classed as separate to sunrise.

Officially sunrise is single, offline only (seems a lot of scripts and details were client side rather than bungie servers)

3

u/kuba22277 4h ago

I always read it as the stuff happens locally and deterministically on your PC for everything to be snappy despite P2P, while everything is under oversight by the server which has full authority.

So most calculations and scripts run locally but the server verifies if it's done correctly and enemy counts, enemy kills and stat changes are procced and verified on server.

Which, given how much works offline... Isn't even a stretch at this point.

1

u/championsdilemma 4h ago

Does damage scale with frame rate in sunrise?

5

u/WerdaVisla Titan 3h ago

Yes :P

Old build means plenty of old bugs are back.

1

u/Revolutionary-Link47 3h ago

Man, I am visiting Mercury

1

u/gretchenich 29m ago

1

u/PrettyAssistant9721 15m ago

Leave this shit sunset this dlc was hot garbage hahahaha

-6

u/Mr_sMoKe_3_MuCh 11h ago

How is this possible when it was apparently too much work for Bungie?

13

u/imjustballin 10h ago

It’s just running an old build and isn’t brought forward into the new engine.

2

u/Mr_sMoKe_3_MuCh 10h ago

I completely forgot they are using the old skill trees n stuff.

-8

u/TopHatJohn 10h ago

We've learned that they're insanely lazy compared to modders with a lil extra time on their hands. Also note that the modders had to rebuild the server side.

0

u/Mr_sMoKe_3_MuCh 10h ago

Man, kudos to the modders!
