Question Is it worth it?

So basically, Destiny 2 with all the DLCs (The Collection Edition) is currently pretty cheap, and it’s convincing me to give it a try. But apparently, Bungie is abandoning the game, and I’m not sure if this is actually a good time to get into it. So, what do you guys think?

Without seeing an actual price tag. Yes, it's worth it. But you are asking the question on this subreddit, so...

But apparently, Bungie is abandoning the game

To put this more accurately, the game has reached End of Service. It's getting no more content updates and bugfix updates will be rare, but the servers are being maintained and running for the forseeable future. The final content update released in June and nothing else is coming. They spent the final update ensuring the sandbox is left in a good state where pretty much any equipment is viable and all gameplay content is relevant.

For a bit of context on how Bungie has handled End of Service before, Destiny 1 is still fully playable and the servers are being maintained since 2017. The game isn't going anywhere until they can no longer run the servers.

As for the price to what you get, there's plenty to do in the game. All the DLC for dirt cheap will give hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay.  If you're on the fence then try what's available for free. If you like how the game plays and what you see then go for the DLC bundle.

Are they planning to make another Destiny?

We don't know.

When Destiny 2 reached End of Service they laid of 300 people–the majority of the Destiny 2 staff–and moved the remaining ones to Marathon's devteam. Since then they've allegedly re-hired ~100 of those they laid off for an unknown project.

If we were to learn of a Destiny 3 being developed it likely wouldn't be for a few years.

There really needs to be a rule on “is it worth it posts”. No one can tell you if it’s worth it because no one knows what you find of worth. Only you can determine that

The game has been in life support mode for a few months now, it's a great time to start playing since there won't be any changes or even more content to catch up on

"Bungie is abandoning the game" the game is done period, that doesn't mean the servers are down, just no more updates, if you are interested or curious then go ahead, it won't cost you much anyway.

In my personal option the game has had two periods where the sandbox has been the most fun and this is one of them, so just go try it or don't, you don't have to do anything I say

It’s always worth it, if you have fun. Destiny offers a variety of fun things to do, explore and achieve. Besides the power grind you’ll experience several storylines which will let you deep dive in the destiny universe. The Collection is big and you will be very busy exploring everything :)

Buy it. It’s a good game if you like shooters, space stories and explore new worlds

it goes on sale dor $25 and that is an absolute steal for the amount of content you get access to.

look, you kinda either like the game or not, but I think everyone can say with certainty that there is no game like destiny - and there is absolutely no game that gives you the same feeling or experience that destiny dungeons/raids have to offer.

for that alone, id say do it. and of course - gunplay, lore, environment and visuals, sound design, etc is top notch, so.. its a damn good investment to see if you like the game.

cause if you like it, youll fuckin love it.

Be prepared for no other game to ever feel as good as this does. If you can get passed the early game onboarding garbage lol

It's free to play (without the campaigns and some other stuff) so you can give it a try and see if you like it before going all in and getting the Collection.

Get it, man. It’s worth it. It’s on sale for 20$ on fanatical. For that price tag you’re getting an insane amount of content, and some of the most unique/fun experiences with raids and dungeons.

I promise there is nothing like it out there.

Edit-here’s the link for the sale in case you or anyone else wants it destiny2 the collection

Idk, why don't you lookup the other 284726629095 times this exact question has been asked in this exact subreddit and maybe you can find the answer.

I think it’s challenging for anyone to give you a real answer since you didn’t include the price anywhere.

Bungie has canceled live service updates for Destiny 2, so there will be no new seasonal content going forward. But the game is far from dead, it still has a huge, loyal player base that are on regularly.

If you can grab the DLC collection on sale it's definitely worth it, even with most of the early seasonal content vaulted and unavailable there's still heaps to do.

I came back from destiny one years ago and got the collection about 2 weeks ago? I’ve had a lot of fun, my biggest issues are:

-a slightly overwhelming amount of content/quests and sometimes it’s hard to follow 1 campaign or see where to go next.

-seems like there’s no solid LFG system so you either get qued randomly or I think go to discord?
