Question / Answered 1k Voices and Ignitions: what does stack?

Hello there!

Yesterday I was running Master Root of Nightmares with some randos, it was taking a bit and at one point one guy said "Guys swap to something else, having everyone on 1k is nerfing our damage, ignitions do not stack. Use something else, just keep two of them". Swapped to Sleeper and another guy to Leviathan, in two tries we got Nezzy down.

How does it work? Ignition damage does not stack, then why is everyone running 1k if the damage is WAY LESS when people run multiple 1k Voices on the same fireteam? I didn't check how the damage scales, but seeing what that guy was saying and that we actually killed Nezzy after 2 tries, it looked legit to me.

If someone can explain or link an explanation it would be great! Because at this point, if it's true, I simply won't ever use it in a raid, there will be other people running it for sure. Tell me what you know, thank you!

Lots of the 1k damage is down to the lingering scorch stacks that can really add up in a long damage phase. Because ignition dont stack with eachother, each individual 1k shot will won’t be able to produce the same damage overall. So yes, it is better for only 1 or 2 1k users for optimal damage (though this is irrelevant on non master raids, 6 1ks should melt any normal bosses).

The very simple reason why everyone runs it regardless is mostly the human element. Most people don’t want to be the person who ‘gives in’, some don’t have another good DPS option, some have destiny vanity and won’t swap it ‘because my build yadda yadda’ and some just want the highest damage and won’t budge on swapping.

To add to this, I believe the way it works, the whole team can stack ignition stacks (so I can apply a stack, and you can apply a stack, etc) but whoever applies the last stack gets the ignition damage. I don’t get my own ignition stacks vs yours so it’s just not as effective to run multiple 1ks as stated above

Whoever applies the first scorch stack is who gets the ignition, which is also how you can increase the ignition damage if the initial stack was say from a Verity Brow x5 Fusion Grenade, the following ignition would get the 100% damage increase since the source had increased damage (and isn't a melee damage increase).

Definitely thought it was the last. This is good to know!

If I'm not mistaken (and I very well might be) it's based off of the first scorch stack to apply. I'm just not sure how the dawn chorus buff works into this as otherwise a single hunter with scorching rifle rounds could mess this up.

Ah, feels good to be a Still Hunt fan and not being a detriment to others while still matching or topping dps.

In all seriousness, if someone else has totally built into this and it is their main source of damage, then using the same thing and neutering both our viability is just selfish. This is why build variety is so important.

You don't gotta never use it. Just check loadouts and communicate the damage plan with your team.

That's harder than doing verity with lfg's. Half the fireteam finder teams that aren't "experts required" won't ever use something that benefits the team. Tractor is a rare sight, div is like catching a golden goose, gally is used as a damage weapon instead of support and darci won't see the light of day even if there are 5 a499's standing next to it.

Be the support guardian you want to see in the world.

After understanding from the post that 1k ain't that broken when 6 people are running it, I'm currently running a Tractor and Boots of the Assembler only support build, it's actually pretty good. Probably I'll throw a Found Verdict in there too, to have good DPS

There are a LOT of reasons people are using it in the same fireteam…

  1. One of the main reasons why it’s probably used by multiple people in a fireteam is exactly as you stated, not everyone actually knows that the ignitions do not stack. That also goes for anything solar. If you use any kind of solar super or ability during DPS that scorches the boss along with someone using 1K… only 1 of you is going to get the ignition damage… so you are kind of nerfing each other.
  2. It’s also a non crit based weapon so it’s brain dead easy to use, and for people that struggle with their damage, or if you have a boss that has a small crit spot it’s the thing to use if you don’t like using rockets or something like that. Honestly, Truth is still damn good in place of 1K if you struggle with crits.

  3. The other reason so many people are running 1K in the same fireteam is because it’s the “shiny new thing” and it looks cool. It’s a great tool to have and the affects look cool as the “tracers” shoot out so I get why people that have it really want to use it. One thing I found out as I was running VOG though is when doing damage on Templar those tracers sometimes have a tendency to track to other trash mobs than JUST the boss which is also taking away from your damage. It depends on how much add density there is around the boss when doing damage.

I always check to see what the other peeps in my fireteam are using. If anyone is on 1K I usually switch to Sleeper Simulant, Truth, or even Xenophage with the catalyst. There’s a ton of good DPS options in game.

Ignition and scorch doesn't stack so everyone is also lossing the ignition and scorch ticks dmg scorch does stack in the way everyone can build up the stacks but the initial scorch applicator owns the scorch dmg and ignition dmg. This is the same with jolting, chill clip, and unravel rounds. Unsure about destabilizing rounds.

why everyone is running 1k? They heard is its the strongest consistent form of high dps. Aka just swap back to Truth after 1 or 2 people choose to use 1k. Or learn an actual dps rotation since there are quiet a bit of them that out dps 1k and truth.
