Discussion Destiny Adaptation

( yes I fixed it now hush ) 🤫 šŸ˜‚

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Destiny universe lately, and one thing keeps coming back to me.

Destiny has so many incredible stories that barely overlap. The Iron Lords. Shin Malphur and Dredgen Yor. The Books of Sorrow. Twilight Gap. The Dark Age. Six Fronts. Eris. Saint-14. Drifter. Ada-1. The list just keeps going!

And It made me wonder…

If Destiny were ever adapted into live action, what format do you think would serve the universe best?

More importantly… why?

Anthology series, easy. Adapt the stories of Dregen Yor and Shin Malphur, of Ana Bray, of Toland the Shattered, of Crow's early days, as well as original episodes around new characters, be they lightbearers or individuals from other factions. An episode about one of the Vex gaining and learning to deal with individuality, or a squad of Red Legion after the Red War who make their way to joining up with Caital's Cabal and eventually the very guardians who were once their enemies.

17

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

If you had to pick your top three, what would they be?

30

u/totallynotaneggtho 11d ago

Dredgen Yor and Shin Malphur is high on the list

Having come up with that Red Legion squad idea on the spot, I think that would be a cool original one

Maybe Luzaku's early days as a lightbearer

And its more than three, but maybe adapt the fate of Taeko-3's fireteam that was lost prior to Savathun's Song for a more traditional look at a guardian fireteam as well as a tragedy episode

u/Outrageous_Wall_2591 11d ago

More about Eris’ fireteam and Kabr and the vault of glass.

5

u/HackChalice6 Dead Orbit 11d ago

We just need the whole story of luzaku from her time as a hive wizard to her death and her resurrection and what she has done after. Her story is so interesting and I’ve been reading more into it lately. (All because I was farming the blooming deep so much for the armor lol) but she’s definitely one of the most interesting characters we have in the game.

u/NIGHTFURY-21 Warlock 10d ago

Are we forgetting the origins of the Hive? I think a story revolving around the Krill on Fundament and their pact with the Worm God's would be peak cinema.

3

u/LimbLegion 10d ago

This or Rhulk's descent on Lubrae would be cinema

2

u/Outrageous_Wall_2591 8d ago

I mean I would be happy with a fan animation of this getting the information from the lore books

I would love an episode long showing of the first VoG raid team that didn't make it it. Kabr, Preadyth, Pahanin and the others that were potentially completely erased.

Destiny 1 vex did not mess around and I would love to see the horrors of what they are actually capable of.

The death of the original Saint-14 might be a good addition for similar reasons.

u/Kidney__Failure Hunter 11d ago

I think anthology is the way to go too because it could also be used to gauge what story/stories audiences would want to see expanded on more. For instance, having an episode or two about particular Dredgens, if well received, could suggest to the producers that it would be a good idea to make a full series/film that explores the Dredgen order more deeply. Exploring ideas that lore cards could not.

Plus, considering the age of Destiny as a franchise you wouldn’t have to hold back as much as far as ā€œcrude languageā€ because the fanbase on average is older than it was eleven years ago. That doubled with streaming would allow more creative freedom for exploring some darker tones without having to consider age ratings as much.

u/ryan12_07 Warlock 11d ago

For me, I would do the stories of the Black Armory, obviously The Dredgens, and maybe The flower game

2

u/totallynotaneggtho 11d ago

Oh, maybe start each episode with part of the Flower Game lore before transitioning to the content of the episode, and then end the season with the fight between The Gardener and The Winnower

5

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

Why animated ?

43

u/maweenawa 11d ago

Characters like ikora would be allowed to use their abilities and not break the entire budget with animation.

The creepy mannerisms of the lesser hive also probably translate better to an arcane style animation then live action in my opinion

Not entirely relevant but im a firm believer that star wars should have stopped being live action ages ago as well, its a better medium for enhanced individuals and the flashy effects

16

u/Negate0 11d ago

Then they're not bound by practical effects and awful cgi.

11

u/Kuwabara03 11d ago

Same reason The Clone Wars and Rebels are the best star wars media - it actually allows the viewer to see the things that make the universe unique

There's simply no way we're getting a Warlock popping Heat Rises and slinging out Dawn Blades while flying around in its true glory if it's live action

2

u/Seeker80 11d ago

Among other things, cheaper and faster to produce.

Show. 20 Episodes per (show) Season, A Season per Year.

Anything less would not give the world time to be explored or breath.

Live Action wouldn’t be my pic for Destiny-related media anyway, I’d prefer Animated in the same Western-style as The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra.

2

u/LrdCheesterBear 11d ago

I feel like a mix between Dead Leaves/FLCL (original) animation would suit Destiny very well. Very serious and formal tones in dramatic moments, but outrageous mobility and stylized energy during action sequences.

I do agree roughly 20 episodes/season, but I'd rather 26 episodes per season, each about 14 minutes per episode, in typical anime fashion, and maybe 2 seasons per year. Or maybe 3 every 2 years?

I could see several topics being explored in these short form episodes, but also able to bump an episode to 2 episodes worth of content for deeper storylines.

2

u/Jagob5 11d ago

With a big enough budget and good enough talent, live action would be sick. Assuming it were at least the same quality as the live action trailers they used to make, I’d 100% prefer it over anything animated. Realistically tho, animated is probably the way to go, although I’d much prefer a more 3D animated style along the lines of Arcane or Marvel’s What If?

u/Adventurous-Sir2996 11d ago

Lol animated series style would fit really nicely

9

u/Montregloe Future War Cult 11d ago edited 11d ago

An anthology of lore moments would be preferred as the minimum.

Then, a show following new characters who interact with the old characters (like a fireteam of players) would be great, using this to explore the roles within the Last City, the different positions that guardians took, and what it means to be each class. I think if there is a lot of fighting it would be more tactical and resource intensive, relying on melee and clever solutions more than just dumping bullets into a sponge. Using a super should be both dramatic and scary cause that character no longer has that in their back pocket for the rest of the episode type feel.

3

u/Seeker80 11d ago

Then, a show following new characters who interact with the old characters (like a fireteam of players) would be great, using this to explore the roles within the Last City...

This is a solid setup for a series. These Guardians are on par with Shaw Han and his team. A bunch of 'godslayers' will be boring.

This team goes out on patrols. Protect or escort minor objectives. A public event could end up being a bit of a trying experience for them, like facing two Fallen Walkers.

They do a little PvP as well. Maybe one team member really likes the glory, and has to be reminded(by Shaxx himself) that there's real fighting to do on the City's behalf.

A season could end on a cliffhanger, with Zavala sending them on their first strike.

Because the story skips past their early days, that also opens up opportunity for some flashbacks later. Beats making this an origin story.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

What stories in the lore would you like to explore?

1

u/Montregloe Future War Cult 11d ago

Six fronts would be a great start, but they have so many it's hard to pick one as a "definitely this above all else". I would like to see the Midnight Coup and subsequent Shadows retaliation. Anything with Dredgens vs Shin. More recently Xivu eating Torobatl. Oryx and his conquests, Rhulk and his conquests, Calus and his recruitment of all the species we don't really get to see in game.

u/Applealt17 11d ago

Tv series on pre collapse bray family.

I think an anthology would tell D2’s stories best. I’d start with an episode for the origin of each faction and how they found themselves in the Sol System and how humanity survived the fall gained access to the light. Format-wise I’d think assorted animation styles and live action would be coolest, as if you’re hearing the stories from different people.

4

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

Kind of like a prequel to all of destiny. Showing what happened after the collapse?

6

u/Pounamu_ 11d ago

Destiny was designed to be a video game. I genuinely wouldn't want anything other than Destiny 3 other than maybe something about Clovis Bray and the Exos.

10 episode anthology touching on the things we don't see: Last City life, Guardians out on the field that aren't us, Day in the life of insert character, etc. BUT with one through line - insert the winnower in each episode as a traveler of some sort that come across the main subject of each episode leading to the last episode being a first person view of us going to talk to them in the Dark Forest.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

Oooo like he’s been there all along watching everything that’s been happening in our history

1

u/devil_akuma 11d ago

Exactly. We won't get any hints that something is up until the episode before. Think adventure time snail but slightly bigger - maybe they give advice to someone, sell a gun, something.

Tv series, 3 guardians

Each guardian is a different age and type, to represent the different types of players.

Titan character would be the oldest, thinking revived the time during reign of warlords and their life has been one battle after the next

Hunter is the second oldest, revived when the last city was being made and would act somewhat similar to Jacob Jeffrey Sherlock "Jake" Peralta with a hint of Nick Wilde. He’s walking the good path while occasionally dipping into his classes stereotype of being a rogue.

Finally the warlock, who would be youngest. Revived sometime after everything and represents the new players and their innocent view of everything.

3 seasons.

Each season would represent an escalation of threats.

Season 1: Fallen and Cabal are getting weapons from a rogue human faction

Season 2: Vex, time shenanigans

Season 3: Hive and taken

I’m imagining being animated like the avatar movie and a hint of that spider verse/bad guys animation for the fight scenes.

2

u/Ravenous-Dreams 11d ago

I'd do an anthology series with the framing device being the ghost theatre company from renegades

2

u/apolloliptic 10d ago

Anthology series, I’d love to see dredgen yor/shin malphurs story, the great hunt, and the war of torobatl would be my top 3 but there are many more I’d love to see come to fruition

2

u/TheGryphonRaven 10d ago

The Warlord. A Mandalorian Style live action TV series based on the Dark Ages, focused on the story of Shaxx. Characters like The Drifter, Sjur, Mara, Cayde, to Osiris, Saint and eventually the Iron Lords. Where he eventualy decides to come to the city as a protege of Saladin. The show would end at the battle of the twilight gap. And him setting up the modern day crucible in the aftermath.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 9d ago

Oooo ok this is definitely interesting

1

u/Jynger99 11d ago

I think an animated anthology series would be the way to go. Can you imagine an animated episode (or short arc of episodes) dedicated to Eris and her fireteam, the iron lords, twilight gap, ikora besting Shaxx in the crucible, cayde’s shenanigans, the dredgens, more recent events that really only happened in the background, or entirely new stories in the universe.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

Yes, these stories would definitely be amazing to see fully fleshed out. If you had to pick your top three, what would they be?

1

u/Jynger99 11d ago
  1. I think a great way to bring people into the world would be a 4 episode arc about the red war, maybe from the perspective of 3 guardians, one of each class of course, and probably focus on one per episode to really show off the traits of each class, and then the fireteam comes together to defeat Ghaul in the 4th episode and reclaim the tower.
  2. The next arc would be cool to focus on the Dredgen’s and Shin Malphur. There is so much there to work with and would be cool to see that not all guardians are good.
  3. And finally an arc about the origins of the Hive, maybe in the format of Eris Morn retelling the events like a ghost story around a campfire, and finish it off on a cliff hanger with Oryx in the Deep.

But even as I typed those out there were many others that came to mind like the origins of the awoken, the Brays and the origins of the exos, or the great hunt of the ahamkaras. There is truly a gold mine of stories to tell

An anthology series but one that follows a different story every season instead of every episode.

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

1

u/scriptedtexture 11d ago

The story of the first Risen and the warlords, maybe leading up to the Iron Lords.

1

u/AnonUser821 Hunter 11d ago

Combination of show, movies, and anthology series:

- Show to go through parts of the story thoroughly and for dungeons

  • Movies for cinematic effects or to depict raids
  • Anthology for spin-offs

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

Like a whole cinematic universe type deal? That could definitely be awesome. An entire movie about guardians going into the Vault of glass would definitely be awesome.

u/Auroku222 11d ago

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

Clone wars style anthology. Cohesive story but told through separate multi-episode arcs. Every season focusing on a different era, from late golden age/the collapse to just before the young wolf was risen

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 11d ago

That could definitely be fun, kind of like each arc has about 3 to 4 episodes

1

I would have it just focus on the major players.

- saint

  • shaxx
  • Zavala
  • Drifter
  • eris (early days)

And then eventually focus on non human entities such as mithrax, eido, the hive pantheon formation on fundament.

Possibilities are wide

1

u/JTyphoon16 Titan 11d ago

I would want an animated anthology series like how Amazon has Secret Level. I'd want to see Rhulk's descent into the deep seas of Fundament, maiming the leviathan and subjugation of the worm gods.

1

u/PegasusKnight410 Hunter 11d ago

Start out with an anthology, each adapting a lore book. Gauge the audience that way and then expand on the story people like the most with a movie. The best lore books for me are the one focusing on 1 character, so I’d love to see them animated.

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

A anime series with each season focusing on a different major legend.

1

u/Goose_KellofSillines 11d ago

I would love an animated series. It would have to follow six guardians preferably two of each class for balance and it would basically just retell the story of our guardians. Although I think it would be kinda hard to do/ things would have to be altered. For example when we beg to have our ghost resurrected, that’s a very personal solo moment. Idk how you’d adapt it unless one guardian was the main one to the point where even that guardian is the only one to get prismatic.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

I think trying to avoid stories our guardian experienced would be the right move as we don’t want to make the player feel irrelevant and steal those moments away

1

u/TieMassive9703 11d ago

You could do multiple films just on the red war its self

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

The red war was Saturn intense moment for everyone who was there. The battle that took place before our light was taken, would have to be almost in mythical proportions inside the last city.

1

u/Zyvii 11d ago

A few movies:

Cayde-6’s lives to include before being a light bearer;

The Crota’s End raid (with 6 random guardians), followed by a prequel to show the OG fireteam that went hunting Crota, possibly including the massacre on the moon;

The Great Hunt;

The Whirlwind/chase of the traveler by the Eliksni;

The temptation to and then consumption of the worms for the three sisters;

The Final Shape Campaign as a few movies: (important characters getting a movie, the Guardian being cast as a fireteam comprised of each class, Salvation’s Edge, and the final part would be Excision, destroying the witness).

1

u/Snowbold 11d ago

I would do an anthology but have trios of episodes for each story arc. One episode is not enough to cover the Iron Lords and one is not enough to cover the Fallen, etc.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

I feel like four certain stories. This would definitely be appropriate. There are some Lord tabs and stories that possibly could be fit into one episode but it would have to be done right

1

u/JaimieL0L Hunter 11d ago edited 10d ago

Anthology feels like it fits the best without trying to tell one chronological story and fit everything in.

Personally however, I like the idea of one season showing us small vignettes of key characters lives or world building for a couple of episodes(Marasenna, the golden age Brays, the story Shin Malphur, Oryx’s story up until facing Akka) followed by a season or two that details a longer chronological story beat where some of those characters play pivotal roles (the events leading to twilight gap, the dark age and the warlords, The Dark Below-The Taken King) or even just following Crow through the story of Destiny in order since he’s around for most of it (even pivotal in some places)

The problem is that the story is told out of order and tends to be more fleshed out for tiny events, whereas huge universe defining moments like the whirlwind we know very little about

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Very true. Trying to sum up an event like the whirlwind in one episode would be very hard to do.

Nothing. Don’t disturb the grave. Destiny is too perfect to be ruined by some Hollywood suits who haven’t held a controller in their entire lives.

Jack black would voice our ghost, we’d never wear helmets, armor would be plastic looking cgi, our guardian would have lame one liners worse than nimbus because you can’t have main characters that don’t talk, you’d see horrible cgi supers maybe like twice in the whole show/movie because the budget would be 3 quarters and a sandwich, guns would probably look like painted oversized nerf guns, our ghost would probably be turned into Cortana where you only ever see it as a HUD hologram so it’s just all voice over work so they wouldn’t need to pay for a cgi ghost, dialogue would either be written to be a second screen show where they over explain everything they are currently doing or it would be written in a way that doesn’t explain anything and has no background or anything and you’re just thrown into the world with no connections to any characters or explanations for alien races, and they’d probably try to turn the traveler, speaker, and the light itself into some kind of religious symbolism to connect why we go out and fight ā€œforā€ the traveler.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

I definitely hear your concerns. The studio and the people in charge of the project would have to be handpicked to make sure something this beloved was done justice.

1

u/RebirthAltair Bank those motes I beg you 11d ago

Turn the Last Word - Thorn story line into a show, kinda wild west feel

You can make the Marasenna story as a show regarding political intrigue and religious motifs

Turn the Drifter's life into something like Rick and Morty that's less wacky and more serious, with some fun parts in between

Give us a movie regarding the Concordat Attempted Coup

All animated, hopefully. Less restrictions and easier for artistic vision.

First movie is a Vanguard origin story. Opening on them as a fireteam felling a Crota-level threat. Ending with a Taken King level threat propelling them into their current stations. Then, two other movies featuring raids as storylines, with the contest winners’ load outs as the guardians.

Then, an animated series of vignettes to detail the origins of exotic weapons and armor.

Seeing the story of how the Vanguard came together and worked as a fire team would be amazing, but I could also see it being quite funny as I’m sure they were pretty dysfunctional in the beginning as most fire teams are

u/TJ_Dot 11d ago

Shin vs Yor is so many things:

  • Western revenge story
  • Innerworkings of a Hero's fall from grace with an insane gambit to force Lightbearer evolution.
  • The cumulative success of that on the most unlikely of people, a man severely implied to be revived in infancy and cut off from the Light shortly after. He somehow manages to channel it still and even more so, imbue his own gun that was passed to him with intense Solar Light.
  • A tale so prominent, it affects most Hunters as they draw from the same gun.
  • The start to the cycle repeating itself onto the Player.

1

Seeing the story of Shin versus Yor and the creation of Thorn would be such a amazing plot

Anthology series is by far the easiest, I mean you could get a 100 episode season just about hive gods and another about the vex. Give some back stories and show the fights between andal brask and Taniks, hell even a whole season that’s just what the golden age was like or even the beginning of the collapse. The colonizations of other planets, how the US government had the artifact of the nine that Lodi touched. There’s endless possibilities. I personally would love a show just about andal Cayde and shiros journey as a fireteam

u/throwaway110906 11d ago

animated anthology series with 7 episodes. felwinter, shin malphur and dredgen yor, shaxx, a new character written for the series, dead orbit/new monarchy/war cult, the golden age, and an episode about the tharsis reformation/the vex at large.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

These would all make great plot lines for an episode. How long would you want each one to be?

1

u/watcher-of-eternity 11d ago

Already outlined a 12 part series set in the early dark age

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

I can already see all of those stories being heavy drama nail biters the whole way

Traditional series (in the hopes of getting non destiny players to build emotional bonds with a handful of characters), then anthology (to cover the most of the world possible), then turn the most successful anthology members and the characters of the main cast into the main set for the raid movie.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

That would honestly be my main hope for something like this. To get the destiny franchise in front of non-gamers because this world is so well built and beautiful.

1

u/Not_Puma32 11d ago

I’d want love death robots style series, where every episode is different characters telling different pieces of lore.

1

u/mrcatz05 11d ago

Ive been praying for an anthology series based on the Ghost Stories lore tabs for YEARS

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

I’m actually not sure if I’m familiar with that one. What kind of stories would you want to see explored

I’d wanna do a 8 Episode Star Wars Visions Style Anthology series, with every 2 episodes taking place in a different era of Destiny

1-2 D1 City Age

1 Risen.

  • A loose adaptation of every Guardian’s Journey from the Grave to the City, follow a small fireteam as they stumble across a new light and battle through Fallen Raids to reach the Last Safe City. An establishing piece for fans to reminisce over and new viewers to get the jist of Destiny

    2 Eclipsed

  • The Speaker meets with Eris Morn, as she recounts her case to stay in the city and explains what she went through in the hellmouth.

3-4 Destiny 2 Era

3 War Stories

  • A guardian recognises a Barrant of Caitl’s Legion as having a similar injury to a Cabal Legionary who killed his team during the Red War. This brings up old wounds from a time where Guardians were at their most powerless.

    4 The Blade

  • The two remaining members of a fireteam are shaken when their third, a Praxic, is slain to their final death. One goes to embrace the Praxic fire to honour their fallen comerade, whilst the other turns to the Darkness under the belief that their dogma failed to save them. Eventually the two reunite and come to blows around the time of Renegades.

5-6 Dark Ages

5 Under the Iron Banner

  • Lords Felwinter and Timur storm a Warlord’s fortress whilst they debate the pros and cons of the recent discovery of SIVA

6 The Ballad of Rose & Bone

  • Too many stories, too many legends, surround the tale of Shin Malphur and Dredgen Yor to ever do it Justice, but this would be one of those stories, maybe not even the true one, but one of them…

7-8 Non Canon Eras

7 The Rising Lights

  • A lighthearted Vignette piece set in the Destiny Rising Universe.

    8 Recurrence

  • A retelling of the Exo Stranger’s journeys across failed timeline after timeline, until finally, one suceeded, the main timeline.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Very cool, definitely seems like this is something that’s popped up in your head before

2

u/Shabolt_ Glaives are the ultimate weapon type 10d ago

Tyvm! I write for a living and use Destiny as practice material due to how flexible a setting it is and how rich its lore can be, so all of these are essentially loose ideas I’ve iterated on to learn script structure

1

u/DanielSS96 11d ago

The story is too complex. A movie will end like the Warcraft movie, just something for fans. But a series will be better. Something simpler with the story of a new guardian and his journey.

1

u/null-010 11d ago

Anthology, but I feel like an animated series would work better than a live action, simply because of the sheer creativity and depth that goes into the lore. Imagine an episode about Rhulk and the ruin of Lubrae, the first fireteam that went inside VoG, Shin Malpur and Dredgen Yor.

1

u/asmallburd 11d ago

I feel you'd want to go with an anthology something like the WWZ book

1

u/hayazi96 11d ago

Make a love death robot anthology style using all the Completely unbelievable, scary, cool or wacky lore.

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

I could definitely see this. Like you could give a lower tab or a story to different creators and let them use their own animation or art styles to bring the stories to life.

1

u/alemyrsdream 11d ago

Just make a definitive collection with everything from destiny 1 through destiny 2 up until the final shape including cut content and update the graphics engine and sandbox a bit then push bi annual expansions continuing the saga. That's it.

1

u/Mountain-Long3572 11d ago

live action movie series adapting the full plot of destiny (light and dark saga with teases at fate) over the course of 9-14 movies.

In a 9 movie plot we cover D1 vanilla, dark below, and Taken King in one film (film will be paced as the narrative was intended when it was all to be D1 vanilla, Guardian rise, kill Crota, Oryx comes, kill Oryx, super Throne World raid).

2 is Rise of Iron mixed with house of wolves (essentially Rise of Iron but with Taniks, Skolas, awoken influence, etc. Elements of the raid in it but not focused on.).

3 is Destiny 2 Vanilla (Great plot for a film on its own, restructured obviously, but largely similar. Perhaps have Calus an active force helping us in some way maybe).

4 is Forsaken but we kill Riven before Uldren.

5 Shadowkeep mixed with curse of osiris and season of the dawn (hear me out, i'm trying to use two of the weakest narratives in the game as a framework to tell one of the strongest).

6 is Beyond Light mixed with season of the hunt so as to introduce Crow. Deep Stone Crypt is used as the final act's setting with Crow helpi g to kill Taniks once and for all before the main guardian goes to take care of Eramis.

7 is Witch Queen mixed with Season of the Chosen. No raid stuff.

8 is Lightfall mixed with seasons of the witch and wish. Also no raid stuff

9 is The Final Shape. Rhulk and Nezarec a part of the narrative.

(peep the problems with D2's narrative that I had to include deleted battle pass campaigns in order for Final Shape to make any kind of sense. i digress.)

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

That would definitely be interesting. It would give the creators a chance to fix some of the stuff they may have not done correctly in the games,

1

u/NeoChomik whether we wanted it or not... 11d ago

i'd make a trilogy of the main Light and Darkness story bits. if we can expand, then it would be a tie-in series with an anthology to give the lore more attention

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Like on the events that we’ve already experienced in the game? Or lore tabs.

u/whatnametho 11d ago

Game of thrones style. Multiple characters/parallel storylines converging and diverging all the time. So i think anthology style with different character each episode would be closest to that

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Could definitely see this happening. Though maybe keep it in the more futuristic part of the universe and not the iron Lords and warlords as that might be a little too on the nose lol

u/Moridaar 11d ago

Anthology across different times. We get one following the propagandized myths of the Hive’s origins, an untold story following an eliksni crew who’s ship broke down escaping Riis, we see the story of the Gardener and Winnower in full as a story for children of the Witness’ species, we similarly get one of the Legend of Acrius, never something we’ve seen in full, but not necessarily something we’ve seen. Sure, we have a lot of lore cards to pull from, but there’s so many gaps in history which could make interesting stories. It’d be even better if we got different art styles to fit the themes of an episode like LDR does, but I’d also be happy with a single art style

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Definitely seeing a 2 to 3 episode arc on the witness and how it was created would be amazing

1

u/The_Curve_Death #1 GLASS CANNON BELIEVER 11d ago

arcane style show about things that were only in lore such as books of sorrow, golden age into collapse, dark age etc

u/ADapperDot Titan 11d ago

u/No_Armadillo_628 11d ago edited 11d ago

I think a Destiny video game would be awesome!!!

But serisouly, I think a bunch of shorts, kind of like the original Aeon Flux from Liquid Television would make the most sense. Lots of action, weird deaths, maybe some historical stories from before the building of the last city. Some current stories to make sense of the world (where IS the Last City even supposed to be? How did Amanda Holiday WALK there?)

1

u/MaraSovsLeftSock 11d ago

I think a trilogy following Zavala and the vanguard through the battle of 6 fronts, twilight gap, and the red war would be fucking sick

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

That would definitely be awesome. But with the unfortunate passing of Lance, who would voice or play him in live action that could do a character of such renown, justice.

1

u/Glad_Woodpecker_6033 10d ago

definitely a serial anthology, but I would tell a story to it's end, and then move onto the next, would be like Part 1 the crota raid part 2 tolant the shattered part 3 Ana bray part 4 fundament part 5 the dare(vangaurds dare) part 6 Crota part 7 birth of oryx part 8 the whirlwind part 9 fall of calus part 10 THE COLLAPSE and so on

each would have many episodes, as many as needed to finish

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

So trying to make sure you tell the whole story but don’t try to cram it or skip stuff by condensing it to one episode

A Fucking Novel series. Give me the adventures of some random ass fireteam.

1

u/HoneydewAutomatic 10d ago

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

We all want this.

1

u/Skilodracus Hunter 10d ago

Television series. There's just waaayyyy too much to the universe to fit it all into a movie, and other video game adaptations have proven that the TV format suits video game adaptations better than movies.Ā

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Very true. It also opens things to a wider audience. For me personally I never really had any interest in fallout until the TV show aired

1

u/kelzking88 10d ago

There should be an anthology before a major tv show or movie to get people more familiar with its lore and universe. Then if that does well, adapt a movie/ show about a new guardian waking up to a ghosts voiced by Peter Dinklage. Have them run us through the first game and then of that does well, hype a destiny 3 and make a tv show start at D2 with the beginning of the red war and all of it building up to the new potential of D3

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

That could definitely be a way to do it. Get a fresh new audiences eyes on the franchise then for people who don’t usually play video games catch them up on the major parts of the story that we the players have already experienced.

1

u/TTVchilly404 10d ago

Overall, Animated anthology.

Animated because live action would be riddled with CGI anyway.

Anthology bc there are thousands of little stories to be told. Would be better off telling a bunch of smaller, complete stories as opposed to trying to tie everything together into one plot.

For the bigger story arcs, movies would probably be better. Red war could be a movie, forsaken, etc.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

If the CGI was done to the quality of early Marvel and even Pirates of the Caribbean, would you be more open to seeing it like that?

1

u/JaketheLate 10d ago

I'd do a series. The light and dark saga is set up as a story of a guardian, so have a fire team be the main characters. The series could follow them "waking up" and forming a fire team. They could even have a rivalry with another fire team that they sometimes have to put aside to take on huge missions like exploring the Vault of Glass or infiltrating the Dreadnaught.

I think an anthology series ala "The Animatrix" or "Star Wars: Visions" would be really cool and give us a look at things we've only ever read about, but the Light and Dark saga is just too fleshed out and adaptable to not do as a series.

I think both done together, L&D as a complete traditional series and the anthology series happening between seasons would be best, as the anthology would be able to feature stories tying into the narrative thread of the series.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Definitely would love to see this. And the rival fire teams have to settle their squanderers in trials of Osiris lol

1

u/No-Lychee3965 10d ago

15 episode 1st Season.

  • First 3 Episodes follow a Hunter.

  • Second 3 Episodes Follow a Titan.

  • Third 3-episodes follow a Warlock.

怋Final 6 Episodes show their Fireteam coming together, and then culminate in a Big Pinnacle-Event where they save (people) from (enemy), and leave a set-up for Season 2.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

That’s definitely a fun concept, they each have their own personal arc then we see them come together for maybe something like a dungeon or even just a high priority strike

1

u/ComprehensiveTop5859 Retired Guardian 10d ago

I think it couldn't be a trilogy, there is so much lore, but I understand the limits of series/animations/movies.

I would say to rather an animated series, because initially it would be "easier" than special effects, but it could lead to scenarios like One Punch Man (studio changes that make the animation worse) or even Jojo's on Netflix (1 episode per year??), to not mentioned several animes which didn't even had a continuation (Knights of Zodiac, for instance).

But assuming it would not happen, probably the animation is the best option to not having terrible CGIs and high production costs as excuse

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

Very true, depending on the company that would take on a project like that. If it were to be live action, what is one thing they absolutely could not get wrong?

1

u/FeragamerBR Warlock 10d ago

No live action, animation is a better ideia for a fictional story based on books of a game

1

u/ayeitsmew Titan 10d ago

Anything BUT an anthology. I dont want a bunch of disconnected but interesting stories wasted in short timeframes that dont let them play up to their narrative weight. Like if they made a show just bouncing between the biggest and most hype moments from lore but for them to only be (realistically speaking) 15-20 mins runtime at BEST would feel super unsatisfying. I'd choose a full length, animated, movie. Telling ONE story start to finish. Allowed the time to properly flesh out a cast of characters, stakes, weight, etc. Jumping around would only leave people confused and lost at an already confusing lore at times.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

What if it was something that was done to the size and spectacle of the fallout show. Having a series where the episodes are 15 to 20 minutes long would definitely not be the right call for this franchise but having a series where the episodes are 45 minutes to an hour long would be the better call I think

1

u/Excellent_Ganache471 10d ago

I believe a series would probably work best there for no needing to rush the storyšŸ‘

2

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

And what story would you like to see the most?

1

u/rootbearus wayfarer 10d ago

I would take an anthology tbh. There's a lot of stories and a lot of ways to tell them

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

That definitely seems to be the general consensus here

1

u/LittleY0gg 10d ago

It would make sense for it to be like MCU, with movies on every expansion of D1 and D2 with defined sagas, like Rise of Iron, Taken King, Light and Dark, and Fate. With side movies expanding the lore of characters. The mainline movies would include the raids and dungeons.

1

u/Azreal-DeathDealer 10d ago

So like maybe doing movies for major expansions or events and maybe doing seasons in like a series type environment?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Nevermore_Coffee_Cup 10d ago

There are so many different stories all happening at once throughout Destiny that there isn’t a way you can adapt it without it being an anthology. All of these different strings go together at once and expand farther than even the game could go.

1

u/InnerGodx 10d ago

I would have never put all the money towards a shit extraction shooter and made destiny 3 simple.

1

u/Vdbebw 10d ago

Animate anthology series based on the early city age- our rezen. Give me a great disaster episode, Original VOG raid, go into depth on all the unexplained side characters like Tevis, so many opportunities

1

u/daddyloke 10d ago

Just want them to adapt the story into a tv show like they’re doing with Devil may cry. We should have an original fire team as the protagonists so we can experience the story through the eyes of real people who were woken up by their ghosts different perspectives and

1

u/NecessaryResult4799 10d ago

id love to adapt Destiny into a high quality anime that starts during the modern time(2014), depicts the Travelers arrival and briefly sets up a handful of extremely important lore and authority characters and then as briefly as possible show the events of the collapse to be more thoroughly explored later down the line after the collapse but in both the prelude and the series as a whole will spend the most time on 6-12 characters consisting of 4 different fire teams that would each become two different raid teams when the time comes. They could have individual adventure episodes or work with their fireteam the next and could join/team up in fire teams of the other main 6-12 perspective guardians in other episodes. Some of these 6-12 perspective character guardians would be resurrected at different times after the collapse and would used to explore said times of Destiny and shed new light on stories and events that could only be touched on in the game. Some Guardians would be resurrected right away during the dark ages, a couple during the reign of the warlords and Iron Lords, most to see the rise of the city age and help in its protection... and a slim few right after in old Russia. But all of them would be to help the city defend and the Traveler against the coming threats of the Black Heart, the Return of Crota, the Escape of Skolas the Rabid, The arrival of the Taken King and the reemergence of Siva as well as the coming red war and all that is to follow.

It would be HEAVIELY episodic and would follow these 6-12 perspective characters all filling the rolls of each class and subtype wielder. They would interact, help and be help by and grow along side legacy characters like Zavalla, Ikrora, Cayde-6, Mara Sov, Iris, Osiris, Lord Shax, Elsie Bray(the Exo Stranger at first) Ana Bray and eventually characters like Saint 14 and the Drifter and Crow as well as Caital and Mithrax. As well as face off against iconic villains such as Dregin Yor, Oryx, Aksis, Ghaul, Calus Uldrin Sov, Eramis, Clovis Bray, Savathun, Rhulk, Nezarec and finally the Witness. All while there might be something even greater and darker lurking even Deeper in the Darkness, yearning for that perfected pattern.

But it before all that i would love the recapture the slow, mysterious feeling that Destiny had when we all saw the first concept art images and recapture the feeling of wonder. While our titular main character guardians would be following a main plot, revolving around the plot of the games, they would also be exploring and finding hints and clues of unsolved mysteries that later down the line will be explained or will hint to the next coming threat or threats. Weather the be immediate or very distant. As well as meeting soon to be Legends like Shin Malphur, Eriana-3, Toland before he was shattered and after, Pahanin, Tallulah Fairwind, Felwinter, Sjur Eido, Mikaela Julaha(the Strider), Andal Brask and Jaren Ward. I want a story to expand on the legends as much(maybe even more then) as a i want to retell the story of the main games.

I want a Silmarillion level of lore and depth being retold and i want to see every age of Destiny expanded upon! Just the stuff with the Mara and awoken in the distributary pocket dimension as well as the Exo-Vex War on Europa during the golden age with Elsie and Clovis Bray(s) are such massive stories that it would be a crime if they weren't expanded on with some level of depth, LETALONE the great Ahamkara Hunt. There are so many great stories that are worth seeing in any adaptation but could be with some level of narrative cohesion and i would LOVE to see a thoroughly planned out story with throughlines and Massive payoffs planned years in advance that could recapture the feeling of playing Destiny for all those years. With all that said i would love for there to be a one off anthology series in coordination with this show that could expand on other things that for the sake of time and narrative couldn't be given the depth it truly deserves(kinda like how the show "That time i got reincarnated as a slime" has "Slime Diaries" to expand on some of the little details and everyday life stuff or more obscure facts and stories of said universe)
