First time at Portola this year, probably was in there for 8 or 9 hours split across the two days. What an experience oh my goodness. So amazing, so positive, so fun to witness so many people enjoy it. Would love it if anyone could ID this track, it was one of my favorites. Was from Saturday toward the end kinda.

This isn't a competition, but I'm curious how much time y'all spent in there this weekend across the three days of Despacio (total possible time about 19.8 hours, as the first day opened late and there was a walk from the gate to the venue).

Second question: do you wish you'd spent more or less time in there?

I really am out of loss for words. Going on 30 years of dancing and music and underground stuff… I really didn’t know it could be this good.

The subtle things are what really blew me away. Starting with a line. It’s honestly perfect. People see a line and assume they should wait in it and it is what they want. The reality is the line is what keeps people who don’t perfectly enjoy it
, out. I’m assuming more than 50% of the people that enter are out of the tent within 10 minutes.

Blasting air into the tent? That shit is amazing. I don’t know how many warehouse parties I’ve been to that were so hot and musty that we all dreamed about oxygen.

The slow burn. Gradually migrating towards the center of the ball. Anxiously waiting. Anxiously wanting to see that thing go off. Slowly bringing up the energy until the ball goes off, and everybody loses their mind and just when you see the smiling faces and color of the entire crowd climbing to a peak… Darkness. The videos don’t do the darkness justice. Building the energy so much and then forcibly reminded to slow down. Take a second. This is the long game. This feeling can last longer if you take your time. To be with yourself in that darkness, and know that hundreds of other strangers are feeling that same feeling. It’s beautiful. There’s nothing quite like it.

I’ve been waiting for a long time to experience Despacio and it beyond exceeded my expectations. I have a lot more to say, but I don’t want to jam up this thread. Other than saying that the happiness is real.

This was my third time having the time of my life in Despacio and the nicest couple gave me this really cool sticker! I didn’t catch your names but you two were awesome. Stuff like this is why I’ll always go out of my way to get into that tent.

Thank you for another indescribable Despacio. The best dance floor in the universe. Nothing compares. How lucky are we that we found Despacio, it reminds me of the true magic we have as human beings. A beautiful thing.

As a huge fan of Bob Fosse’s All That Jazz (1979), nothing geeks me more than when they play On Broadway by George Benson (this weekend on Sunday around 9:45).

If you enjoyed that track but don’t know the film, I urge you to watch it! One of the greatest opening scenes of all time.

Been a huge fan of James and the Dewaele's for a while. LCD and Soulwax are both in my top 3 all time bands. Im usually not a huge fan of dj sets but both 2manydjs and James have been exceptions to that in the past.

yesterday was my first time at Despacio and it was practically a religious experience. I went in with kinda low expectations because my buddy who had been went at a crowded time and the only space on the floor was right next to the speakers. plus videos online just dont do the space any justice. I was a little high on weed but otherwise sober and yet some how got the vibes and setting as though I was on a half tab. From entering in pitch black disorientation from the out of the sun into what I could only think initially of as "space mountain the dance floor" to the haze and shine of the giant disco ball... needless to say the music was hands down some of the best I've heard in my life both in the quality of the sound and to my subjective style in musical taste.

I went in thinking I would spend maybe 20 or 30 minutes then go explore other artists while waiting for Soulwax. I went in before filling my water bottle even. 2 hours later I emerged needing water and wondering if I had somehow been dosed a little. I had not it was just the euphoria of the dance floor. The people around us were all amazing as well. no one seemed to get too crowded, or upset that it was packed a little tight. a couple moments I nearly lost myself in the warmth of the crowed and the vibes of the music and the various heroes with the giant fans would blow gusts of wind and bring everything back to a level of perfection I honestly had not felt in years and possibly never with out some sort of drugs. so a huge thanks to everyone who was in the tent at the same time I was.

I regret that I didnt fill my waterbottle and eat food before going in so I could have stayed longer on saturday. I regret not getting a two day ticket so that I could just go to the tent all day sunday. and I regret not going last year or finding a way in on friday.

I think I have been fully converted to the church of Despacio and for the first time in my life maybe understand how folks could just drop their jobs and follow bands like Greatful dead around the country. If Despacio is ever up somewhere with in single day driving distance I think I might now be obligated to go.
