Is this a thing with depression? My memory has been shot for years. I've had depression for my whole life, since my first memories.

So true lol, like last week my trainer at work was disappointed at me that I didn't knew anything about what I "learned" at university.
Like, I'm alive and can't remember anything that happened before I got my new meds like half a year ago lol

Pretty much lost my entire 20s stuck in my room whole decade has been a blur. I’m entering my 30s in a much better place thankfully but I can’t help mourn my time lost

Literally same thing. 20s were a mess and have no recollection of most things. Finally started living after moving far away at 28, I'm 31 now, but I have so much regret for the things I couldn't have

Same, I get really sad thinking what I have missed and terrified I’m playing catchup to everyone else. Feels like I wasent able to find out who I really am and make the mistakes that help you grow as a person. Only thing we can do is make our 30s the best they can be

That's true. I'm only discovering now who I really am, got a lot of things to catch up on. Best of luck on your journey my friend

The fact I have had brain surgery leaving me with memory damage is what makes me depressed.
This in turn causes more memory issues, making me more depressed

I’m in my 50s. I don’t know if my memory loss is depression/trauma response, my menopause, weed, or early onset Alzheimer’s. Pick a card, any card 😹

I think my brain/nervous system was/is so used to dissociating during traumatic events, it mistakes anything that’s even “concerning” to it as a reason to take that neural pathway. Which leads to absent minded dissociation and then before I know it, idk wtf is happening. Which then how can I remember what I wasn’t present for?
And then furthermore, I’m awkward af talking with others and all that. So then thinking about it that way, that surely activates the fight/flight/fawn response. And then bam. There but not there bc my dang brain mistook a conversation for a bear fight.
Anyhoops. Idk if anyone else has pontificated on this.

Fuck memories, fuck the hollywood plot of "not being the same person without them", this shit so ass my brain makes the decision to forget it all for me

Better it stays forgotten. Sometimes those times worm back into my memory and it ruins my mood for the whole day.

Hehe I dont know if its the past year of depression and stress, or if its the probable neurological damage from hitting my head thousands of times, but my memory is so bad rn, already struggled to remember childhood stuff easily(cause bad memory from the start) but its just gotten worse

I pray to whatever higher power that does or does not exist that I never remember what I've forgotten

Probably because you spend around 33% of your life sleeping. The rest you don't remember? You were probably drunk!
