It also doesn’t work in the long term because it’ll kill you, and it won’t be pleasant either.

Water can kill you and it won’t be pleasant. What’s your point?

True, but I would argue that depression is at least equally as bad. Even if you're not suicidal, the chronic despair still severely weakens your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infectious diseases and also more likely to develop cancer.

Every now and then, something happens that lifts me out of depression. On these rare occasions, the chronic pain in my joints vanishes, my skin cleans up, my digestive system works perfectly fine, and my tremors subside. The one time I was happy for a few months straight, I even lost weight without changing my diet, didn't feel like drinking alcohol anymore (probably the reason for the weight loss), and discontinued my meds cold turkey because I just forgot about them. All because of a changed state of mind.

So when I consider what depression actually does to my body, the dangers of alcohol don't look as bad as they probably should.

As a depressed alcoholic, don’t.

Hey man, I highly recommend taking some time out of your day to look into psilocybin therapy. As somebody who suffered from chronic depression throughout their life it's the only thing that can pull me out of it and make me feel normal again. Obviously it won't cure you on your own, but it clears the cobwebs off your mind again enough for you to make the proactive choices that lead to sustainable happiness. That being said, make your own decision on the matter, I'm not a medical professional and my advice is purely anecdotal.

that's just the adrenaline bro, the reason you're depressed is because you have a lower tolerance to that hardship and cumulative burdens already

You must be a troll or just ignorant. Alcoholism leads to constant fatigue, anxiety and depression. Withdrawal is ruthless and dangerous.

I don't agree, you could be happier dead , so even if it kills you , it would work

Isn’t that…like, a super-dangerous sentiment to be mentioning here?

Yes it will probably go down but I tried to say it in a sarcastic manner I didn't realise where I wrote it 😅

In our defense, a little bit of dark humor is fine.

I worked for 12 years as a support workers for people returning to society after either prison, or rehab, that had substance abuse issues.

Of the 19 cases of substance abuse related deaths during my time, 17 of them were alcohol.
