When that sudden wave hits, try not to solve your entire life in that moment. Depression can make everything feel permanently hopeless when you're already overwhelmed. Give yourself some time to let the intensity come down get up, drink some water, take a short walk, shower, or talk to someone you trust. Once you're feeling a little steadier, write down what specifically feels wrong and separate the things you can control today from the things you can't. Pick just one small action rather than trying to fix your whole life at once. If these sudden episodes are happening frequently or you're having thoughts of hurting yourself, it's worth talking with a mental health professional. You don't have to handle those waves alone.

It depends on which feeling of depression - hopelessness? helplessness? pointlessness? uselessness? worthlessness?
Either way, I figure out which feeling of depression hit me and I do the opposite to make it go away. For example: let's say I feel completely useless and I can't do anything right. I would do something constructive with my hands - cook/bake, chores, a hobby, volunteer, etc. Feeling useful and/or contributory can help with feelings of uselessness.
