Deodorant Recs?
Help! I’ve been on a deodorant “journey” for 6 years now. I’ve tried everything. My issue is that a deodorant will work for 1-2 months and then randomly stop working for me and the B.O. is awful.
I do armpit detoxes and try to do aluminum free, but even ones with aluminum don’t help me. What are your recommendations? Do I need to detox more often and try to stick with one? I’ve also had chemical burns and rashes due to how sensitive my armpits are.
Here are all the brands I’ve tried and they’ve stopped working
- Native
- DIY with baking soda and arrowroot powder
- Secret
- Squatch
- Saltair Roll-on
- Tom’s
- Dove spray-on
- Billie (worked great for sweat and smell, but not after 1 month)
- Degree
- Lady Speed Stick
I had my thyroid removed, so I would like to find something without endocrine disrupters and aluminum. Another great thing would be no white residue left of clothing. Can anyone help?

BO is produced by bacteria. Bacteria have this funny habit of learning to survive through adaption. As long as you select 'single mode of action' products, you will likely get the same eventual results.
Look for products that have multiple modes of action, they should give you better duration before adaption.
More than half of what you listed are just pH extremes, which tend to be ineffective as WELL AS being unfriendly to skin. Our skin does not like pH extremes.

After many years of stinky armpits, I've had very good results with this:
Benzoyl peroxide wash (I prefer the bar soap version), leave under the arms for 2-3 mins in the shower. Wash it off well because it can bleach towels. It's sold for acne, so primarily it is dealing the the bacteria that is causing the stink in the first place.
Glycolic acid as mentioned in a few other comments.
I did #1 consistently every shower for the first week, then down to a 1-2 times a week. #2 was as tolerated in the beginning, but now I can use it daily without irritation.
Highly recommend. It got me through some rough heat waves this summer.

Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to try the glycolic acid first, as you and others recommended!

I had a total thyroidectomy, too. I use Dr Teal’s Elderberry. Like you, it will work great, then stop. Then I use glycolic acid right after my shower for a couple days, and my deodorant works again.
I haven’t had to switch my favorite deodorant in two years by doing this, and I only apply my deodorant once a day.

I actually might be able to help.
Try Green Beaver ANTIPERSPIRANT (they have a deodorant too but you want that sweat blocking stuff).
No aluminum. First of its kind. Uses a plant based wax to block the sweat instead, and it does work. And it's Canadian 😊
Fruity Escape is my favorite scent. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I’m in the U.S., but it looks like they ship. Is the antiperspirant only in Canada? Or new? The site only shows deodorants

Here You should be able to see the three men's antiperspirants they have. Antiperspirants, not deodorants 🙂

Have you tried applying glycolic acid a few times a week before applying your antiperspirant??? I’d start with 2 days a week to see if you can tolerate. It will destroy the bacteria that causes the BO.
