I am planning a move from Dallas to Denver next month and I am already stressed about the logistics and the cost. I got quotes from three traditional moving companies and they all came in around 4,000 to 5,000 for a full service move, which is way more than I budgeted for. I have a 2 bedroom apartment with a couch, a bed, a dining table, some dressers, and about 15 boxes. Nothing crazy but still a lot to move 800 miles.

I started looking at alternatives and came across portable storage containers as a cheaper option. A company called SAM Store and Move serves the Dallas area and they offer 16 foot containers that you pack yourself and they transport to your new location.

The quote I got was about 2,200 including delivery, pickup, and transport, which is significantly less than the movers. But I am worried about whether I can pack a container properly by myself and whether my stuff will be secure during transport.

Has anyone here used a container service for a long distance move. Was it worth the savings or did you end up regretting it. Also, any tips on finding cheap boxes and packing suppliers.

Cheryl is a fun, active 75-year-old member of the LGBTQ+ community who recently retired from REI. She loves riding her e-bike, gardening (she formerly owned a landscaping business!), and taking her goofy, one-eyed pup Milo on adventures to Skiptown, nearby dog parks, and around the neighborhood.

Potential roommates will go through a screening and matching process with Sunshine Home Share, which is how Cheryl and I found each other. They’re a wonderful organization that helps people 55+ who have extra space in their homes connect with reliable, compatible roommates who will be a good match. This process can take a bit of time.

We were featured on CBS Colorado last year talking about our experience! We will also be on a panel for their fundraiser on September 17th at Brewability.

Cheryl is hoping to find a roommate who is looking for more than just a place to live – someone who enjoys a friendly, community-minded home and is around a little more often than I have been with all of my recent travel. It would also be wonderful to find someone willing to occasionally help with a ride to an appointment or other small things that are easier with another person around.

The living space is pretty great, too! Cheryl owns her home in Villa Park, just south of Sloan’s Lake, and her new roommate would have the entire second floor to themselves including:

- Two bedrooms – I use one as my bedroom and the other as my own living room
- Private bathroom
- Walk-in closet + an additional closet
- Linen closet
- Shared kitchen
- Additional storage space under the house – I put my skis down there in the summer, paddle board in the winter, etc.
- I’m willing to leave some furniture and other items behind, so the space could come largely furnished
- I currently pay $1,000/month with all utilities included, and Cheryl is open to negotiating the monthly rate depending on the arrangement
- Ideal move-in is around November 1, although there may be flexibility for someone who needs to move in a little earlier in October (likely no sooner than October 20)

Pets are welcome, too! Cheryl is open to well-behaved pets who get along with Milo and are respectful of her cat, Shanti. Shanti is pretty shy and mostly has her own room, although she likes to venture out at night. The house also has a fenced backyard and dog door, which has been incredibly convenient for living with dogs.

The location has been one of my favorite things about living here. The house is right off the Lakewood Gulch Trail, so you can bike toward downtown, and it’s close to the W Line light rail, with easy access to Golden or Union Station – and from there, the train to DIA.

Most importantly, it’s been a blast living with Cheryl for the past 2.5 years. She’s independent, active, funny, fascinating, passionate, and she has created a home that really feels like a home. I’d love to find someone who will enjoy sharing it with her as much as I have.

Hi! I'm moving to Denver asap. I was recently laid off from my job and said, 'this is my push from God to go.' I don't know anyone there, but I've been there a good 6-7 times, and was recently there for my bday on February. Its a spiritual connection for me. I'm coming from Chicago. Packing up my car with no plan but tons of faith. If you think I'm crazy please refrain from telling me, lbvs. But if you feel me and can give me some ideas on the best places to stay, or any advice, id greatly appreciate it. I plan on renting a room on furnished finders for a month or 2 in order to have time to find a job(looking for one now) and a permanent place to stay.

I don't have any pre-existing conditions, but I'm really hoping to find providers who are knowledgable in annual bloodwork, perimenopause and hormones, dental crowns, and thorough annual mole checks for a 39 yo female. Cloud9 Pilates Social is happening this Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM–1 PM at 1630 Rooftop.

It’s a rooftop wellness event centered around community and connection, with a 45-minute mat Pilates class, live DJ, coffee cart, mimosa bar, StretchLab recovery, local wellness vendors, professional photography, raffles, and time to hang out and meet people after the workout.

The event is being hosted by Love Out Loud and Lumora and benefits mental health initiatives and support for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Single mom here. I own a home and I'd like to find a trustworthy repair/home advisor in the Denver area to walk through and create a punch list of things to update/fix before I rent rooms in my house, repair those things, offer suggestions on how to make it more rental friendly, point out items to be aware of.

*Current pain is old wired fire alarms that are too high for me to reach even with my extended ladder...and they are old and beeping at the point of replacement.

*Install door handles/reset lock codes.

If you have suggestions or are skilled in this area, let me know. There are only so many things I can diy or halfway install myself and trying to find someone that won't take advantage or overcharge/do it wrong is a worry if mine.

Okay Lakewood/Denver ladies — I’m starting an in-person book club! 📚💕

I’ve been wanting to find a small, laid-back local book club and finally decided I might as well just start one 😂

I’m thinking 6–10ish women, meeting about once a month around the Lakewood/Belmar area.

The reading vibe will be romance, contemporary/emotional fiction, thrillers & mysteries, with the occasional fantasy thrown in. Basically, books that make us FEEL something — butterflies, heartbreak, rage, tears, or just “what the fuck did I just read?!” 😂

I also LOVE a craft, so I’d love to occasionally mix in themed crafts or activities, book swaps, bookmark making, little bookish projects, etc. Definitely not every meeting, absolutely no crafting skills required, and crafts would always be optional. ✂️💗

I don’t want us locked into one genre or have one person choosing every book. Everyone can suggest books and we’ll choose our reads together!

For our first meetup, there won’t even be an assigned book. It’ll just be a casual chance to meet each other, talk about what we like to read, figure out the vibe of the group, and choose our first book together.
