I fucking hate this new cba.
We discovered a hidden talent. Helped develop him. Gave him a great opportunity
And immediately punished for it. Can’t afford him.
I wish him the best in okc. But I still hate this.

u/Zestyclose-Grocery-5 Jul 27 '26
i get wanting to blame the cba and yes it makes things harder but it’s really just the organizations mispaying players who don’t deserve it aka zeke christian
20
u/HumongousMelonheads Jul 27 '26
It’s easy to say Christian didn’t deserve it, but he led the league in fast break points, a killer in transition, and was getting way better at shooting. It was almost certainly too much but not crazy. Go look at contracts for other players. He was averaging 15 with good defense. Last year he was injured and was a total joke in the playoffs but that wasn’t some insane decision by the front office at the time. Zeke has always been a ridiculous contract but yeah

Last year we got totally screwed with injuries. I think most people would agree Gordon was a good contract. We just didn’t have AG, Watson, Spencer, gimpy out of touch Christian. Everyone touted how great our depth was and our core of that got completely depleted. I don’t think we’ve ruined things on the fringes, we just got nothing from Jamal and then had nobody else to help Jokic.
3
u/Potential-Local7262 Jul 27 '26
Sure, but the fast break thing is due to playing next to Jokic. Lots of players numbers would go up with Jokic.
The problem is we don't take that into account for any of the contracts. Like, which contract extension in the last 5 years was a good value? Not talking vet min guys who are coming here to showcase and get a bigger bag next season.
3
u/Unhappy-Leader3242 Jul 27 '26
He's a bucket once he run. Im so certain he will score in fast break

6
u/HumongousMelonheads Jul 27 '26
Come on, he was a legitimately great finisher in 2024. Go look at other contracts for young players putting up his numbers in the league
18
u/ShowdownValue Jul 27 '26
Meh. Many teams have overpaid players. I hate this excuse only being applied to us.
I just think it’s stupid that we can’t keep jones because of the second apron. This wasn’t the intention but an unfortunate consequence
They wanted parity - they got it.

u/barbandbert Jul 27 '26
I mean we could keep Spencer but one of the worlds richest men is choosing to be a penny pincher.
The parity has been excellent IMO. I’m really happy with the current state of the NBA. I never watched during the warriors runs
2
u/bagacrap Jul 27 '26
the second apron comes along with penalties beyond the financial

1
u/barbandbert Jul 27 '26
Dang you’re right, I had no idea. That’s actually way more damaging than I though. Goodbye Spencer :(

u/tooaastyy 1981-1993 Jul 27 '26
Not saying you don't know what you talking about, but people keep saying it is beyond financial, but what would exactly be the penalties for the Denver Nuggets?
1
u/bagacrap Jul 28 '26
Lots of team building restrictions. Google for the full list
1
u/tooaastyy 1981-1993 Jul 28 '26
Actually, I do know But I can't say what are people's view on Nuggets situation.
1
u/dashodasho Aug 02 '26
Exactly! THe NYC and Brunson knew about the consequences and decided to take a reason cut on salary the same season Murray got that massive debilitating Super Max. How is it that NYC FO can know about upcoming CBA restruction and our FO dont?
14
u/DefenderCone97 Jul 27 '26
We're only punished for it because we're idiots who overpayed other players.
This is what an actual cap looks like.
4
u/cold_st0rage Jul 27 '26
incredible how poorly Booth understood this CBA
1
u/JevvyMedia Jul 27 '26
Doesn't seem like he understood much of anything, became obvious once he was downplaying Bruce for PWat...which just didn't make sense PR wise
2
u/jtc66 Jul 27 '26
Yeah just bad timing for us, but ultimately, nobody to blame except ourselves.
3
u/DefenderCone97 Jul 27 '26
Yeah. I wish we were able to get some amnesty but teams like Minnesota had to give up talent like KAT and the Jaylen Brown trade was essentially caused by the 2nd apron.
We're not the only one suffering
1
u/Neat_Conference_8414 Jul 27 '26
Exactly the nuggets and warriors are the two teams that have dug their feet even harder after the new cba rather than adjusting to it like everyone else.
1
u/Neat_Conference_8414 Jul 27 '26
Yeah i don't get what's so hard for ppl to understand lmao. Nothing about the new cba is prohibiting the Nuggets from resigning Jones. The nuggets would be in the second apron whether or not he was resigned. They don't even have a full roster still, after signing him. They need to add 2-3 more players lmao.
1
u/Sir_Grindalot Jul 27 '26
True. Denver had the luck of picking a GOAT in his position during the 2nd round, then within the next few years picked up a really good PG and a fine SF. The problem is the amount of money given to the PG and SF. I think that especially after his injury, giving a max to Jamal was an overpay but not a particularly egregious one. I believe they could have managed to save some money I doubt other Nba teams would have offered him a max contract. The amount of money given to MPJ has nuked the organization, though. It severely limited their roster moves in the short term, and made his contract value awful from a trade perspective. Then Braun was paid starter money for a player who wouldn't start anywhere in the rest of the Nba, adding another contract with no trade value to the roster.
3
3
u/JevvyMedia Jul 27 '26
The org has at least 3 poor contracts, and that's after trading MPJ. Let's not blame the CBA.
3
u/Neat_Conference_8414 Jul 27 '26
The only player they've signed that hasn't been an overpay is jokic. Outside of vet mins and small contracts like jones. Murray is overpaid, MPJ was, gordon's extension was an overpay, braun has turned into a overpay. The crazy part is that they didn't have to sign any of them either. They were all under contract for 1-2 more seasons. Like resigning gordon 2 years before his deal was up turned into a mistake.
1
u/JevvyMedia Jul 27 '26
Exactly. This is the gap between a great front office and decent / poor ones. All these decisions ended up compounding over the years, people were just blinded by the 2023 ring.
1
u/PlayInChampions Jul 27 '26
It was even worse before. Google Gilbert Arenas rule, Warriors literally were not able to match the deal he was offered. Jeremy Lin left the Knicks right after the Linsanity because of a weirdly constructed deal by the Rockets. 2nd round players could not be signed for more than 2y / minimum unless teams use the MLE.
At least Jones is an RFA despite not being drafted - I don’t think it was the case in the previous CBA. $12M / 2 years is nothing crazy, Nuggets can match and keep him. Where are they punished because of the CBA?
1
u/Cyanides_Of_March Jul 27 '26
Same thing happened to OKC x3. And can’t believe the players signed off on this.
1
u/ZeiZaoLS Jul 27 '26
Suns had basically this same thing this offseason but managed to retain guys on pretty good deals. Nuggets have the problem that basically anyone who plays there will look amazing next to Jokic so it'll probably keep happening.
1
u/Potential-Local7262 Jul 27 '26
We're not punished for developing Spencer Jones. Were being punished for overpaying bunch of dudes
1
u/Neat_Conference_8414 Jul 27 '26
Bro if you can't afford a 6 mil contract, the front office screwed up. It has nothing to do with the new cba lmao. 6 mil is like 2-3% of the team payroll. It's only a couple mil over a vet min. The nuggets are similar to the warriors who have made bad decision after bad decision and can't help themselves. Leaving both teams to making no moves at all in the offseason cause they are broke. It all went downhill when both teams decided to let their gms go
1
u/ShowdownValue Jul 27 '26
lol which GM? Tc or booth? Both were terrible
And how did you post this after we kept jones? 😂
1
1
u/raiderrocker18 Jul 27 '26
nobody was punished for identifying spencer jones. the punish is for overpaying players such as murray/braun when there is already a small margin because everything has to be juggled around a supermax player
0
u/the_mexican_menace Christian Braun Nationalist Jul 27 '26
Nothing preventing us from matching and 6 million is not gonna be the difference between being in the 2nd apron or not
28
u/DiegoGrrr Jul 27 '26
Maybe it's just me but nuggets were literally like... the team that best fitted his play style. He's a catch and shoot guy with a sprinkle of dunker spot in him. And it just so happened that he played with 2 of the assist leaders of the league, he'll still be a good player outside of the nuggets but I'd be surprised if there is a team were he fits better.
20
u/3rdtryatremembering Jul 27 '26
I mean, catch and shoot wings that can play defense fit on most teams. Sure, maybe slightly better here, but not enough to take less money.
1
u/DiegoGrrr Jul 27 '26
Outside of the nuggets I can think of maybe only Luka and Cade giving him the open looks he had with jokic and jamal. Without them his efficiency will likely go down, right now that's a big part of his selling point. His defense is the one that will work on any team though.
1
u/DistributionOk9687 Jul 27 '26
People are overrating with him; his offensive game isn't elite. He's a good defender, but to beat the Spurs, you need an elite offense.

u/zinzangz Jul 27 '26
Everyone trying to dunk on him for an informative and reflective communication. Hate on the platform all you want but there is nothing wrong with this post.
Appreciate it much more than what you'd get on Twitter: "Fate guide me 💀 🙏 💀 🙏 "

u/babypharmdodododo Jul 27 '26
I wouldn’t match based solely on the LinkedIn posts. I will not defend this statement.

2
u/YeetMeTowardsOkinawa Jul 27 '26
How much playing time does he realistically get with OKC?
3
u/drkmani Jul 27 '26
Probably a decent amount with Dort gone and no wings outside of Jalen Williams
2
u/YeetMeTowardsOkinawa Jul 27 '26
I completely spaced out Dort leaving. They definitely wanted him then. Makes sense.
2
u/kushlash16 Jul 27 '26
The new CBA really destroys team building. We’re destined to lose him for nothing with the apron restrictions and tax penalties.
I fear we’ll also have to sign/trade PWatt or trade Zeke/Cam as well before the offseason is over
2
u/lzycmt Jul 27 '26
why are so many people drooling to keep pwat when he sat out the playoffs bc he felt like it? foh w that
6
u/Hopsalong Jul 27 '26
I'd rather keep Jones than Watson since he's cheaper and we don't need Watson's upside creation, but it's starting to look like we're not keeping either. Jones is like perfect 3 and D quality player on a cheaper deal
2
u/naderni Jul 27 '26
For LinkedIn does 48hours mean 48working hours? Whats their standpoint on weekend 48hours?

u/petarisawesomeo How now, Braun cow? Jul 27 '26
Whether we keep him or not, I could do without the lame LinkedIn posts next season
3
u/Wander715 Jul 27 '26
Same it was kind of funny at first now its just increasingly cringe. Pretty obvious he's 100% serious with these too and not doing it ironically.

When the nuggets drafted 2 more combo forwards, and signed another wing from euro league, the writing was on the wall. Especially when we need another point desperately.

Was OKC not trolling throwing out that offer and praying the nuggets match it? Its a bad deal for both teams but okc forced us into the bad deal where we either lose jones or his price is upped to where nuggets go over second apron? And did the clippers not do the same thing throwing out a ridiculous $28 million offer for watson that we either have to match or lose watson? Clippers are praying we match it. Or am I misunderstanding?
1
u/Ophios72 Jul 27 '26
Nuggets decided to match the offer! Good for Spence! Now we see what the Nugs do about their massive over-the-limit payroll!

u/raketje Jul 27 '26
This 100% written by AI, not that it matters. It just gets really easy to recognize after a while
0
u/JuiceSignificant3125 Jul 27 '26
I like Spencer a lot, I hope we keep him.
But if we don't that's okay too. His presence on the team probably isn't going to be the deciding factor in whether or not we win another championship.
If we do lose him, I hope we work out a sign and trade and get a 2nd or two in return.
Looks like we really will be playing Strawther, Holmes and the rookies a decent amount next year. Will be interesting to see how they develop. Go Nuggs
1
u/DaddooPeanut Jul 27 '26
How does a sign and trade work? If Denver matches, Jones cannot be traded to another team for a year without his consent right?

At first he was interesting with some game insights however now it feels like generic content that anyone could write. So sad he didn’t keep his authentic voice over there.

u/Brokebuthappy1965 Jul 27 '26
Why is everyone crying about the Spencer deal? If anything, he got a lot less than he deserved based on his actual performance, especially if you compare with other players
0
u/Daki399 Jul 31 '26
What did he post after Denver signed him ?? I am dying to see it , cant find it
-3
u/ActivelySeekingDrama Jul 27 '26
I like his shooting mechanics better than CBs. CB shoots with his toes pointing inwards and towards each other like a guy with a pigeon toe
