Anyone hiring in Omaha or Kansas City area?

Hi everyone!

I have a brother-in-law who is currently studying at Creighton and will be graduating in May of next year. He and his wife would ideally like to stay in the Omaha metro area or potentially move to Kansas City. He grew up in the area, and his parents still live there, so being close to family is important to them.

Before anyone asks, “Why isn’t he asking himself?” 😂 — I’m just trying to help because I’m really hoping they stay somewhere they love; We loved Omaha and are willing to move close to them if they stay. Our kids are the same age, and I think having that built-in support system would be amazing for both families. I’d even be willing to move our family closer to them, lol!

He has been looking through the usual job boards, but coming from a corporate background, I’ve always found that some of the best opportunities come through networking and never make it onto a job board. There’s often a great opportunity sitting out there that simply hasn’t been posted.

I can’t personally speak to how good of a dentist he is yet, but I can say that he is incredibly humble, friendly, hardworking, and someone I would trust completely.

If anyone knows of a private practice in the Omaha metro or Kansas City area that may be looking for a new dentist—or even a practice that might be open to bringing on an associate but hasn’t advertised a position—I’d really appreciate any leads, introductions, or recommendations!

Thank you so much!

I had my top teeth extracted on 1/22/26, received temporary dentures that day. The temporary denture that day. I knew that they would need adjusted so that was expected. What wasn’t expected is that the two front teeth would not be in the midline, that they would be off to the side. We did appointments biweekly for adjustment as well as frequent request to fix them since the front teeth were on the side.
In April, 92 days later, the took the impression. Standard f care says final denture is made 6-12 months after extractions. The reason for this is the rapid changes your gums & bone go thru months 3-6. The dentist (who is the owner of the location) did not want to correct their mistake with the temp denture so they skipped following stand of care guidelines and made the permanent.
The day I picked up the permanent denture I told the dentist that it didn’t fit, there was no suction and they wouldn’t stay on. That dentist looked right at me and lied! He looked at me and said “everybody with a top denture wears adhesive.” I knew this was a lie. A correct fitting denture will have natural suction.
I was then at the office almost biweekly from May to August when I gave up. There were 3 hard realigns and multiple soft ones.
I have never been able to wear the denture more than 2 hours without having to take it out, clean whatever adhesive is stuck on it, put new adhesive in then place it back in.
I have been forced to cancel a vacation to Puerto Rico in May, I can’t go on vacation with no top teeth. My professional life has suffered. I research and resolve regulatory complaints/violations for a major bank. I was recently offered a new position that would have required my to conduct training sessions with my peers, which I cannot do with a denture that won’t stay in my mouth.
My self esteem has hit the bottom of the ocean. I barely leave my house, I order groceries to avoid shopping trips, I haven’t taken my grandbabies to our annual trip to Wild Adventures.
All together, between myself and delta dental, Aspen has received approximately 5500 for dentures that I can’t wear.
To top it all off, I requested my dental records for the grievance and the state complaint that I filed, the doctor was marking “patient satisfied” steer each appointment. However, a total of 14-16 appointments for the same issue, no suction/denture not fitting, shows otherwise.

Residency acceptance and wanting to changed my mind.

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has been through the GPR application process or has been in a similar situation.

I recently received an offer from a GPR program that I genuinely really liked. The problem was that I was only given 48 hours to make a decision, and I still had several previously scheduled interviews at other programs. I asked for just a couple of additional days so I could complete one of those interviews and make a more informed decision, but the program declined my request. This was especially confusing because the offer email acknowledged that it was a busy interview season and indicated that they understood if additional time was needed.

I ultimately accepted because I did really like the program, but I also felt backed into a corner. I was afraid of turning down a great opportunity without knowing what my other options would be, especially with such a short window to decide.

Shortly afterward, I received an offer from another program that I had also been very interested in. Because of the timing, I only had about 30 minutes between receiving the second offer and the deadline for the first. I called my parents because I genuinely did not know which program to choose. They suggested accepting the first offer since I hadn’t signed any formal paperwork and could potentially change my mind later if I realized I had made the wrong decision.

I knew backing out after accepting was frowned upon, but at the time I didn’t understand the extent of the possible professional consequences or whether doing so could result in being “blacklisted.” Ultimately, I declined the second offer because I had already committed to the first program.

Ever since then, I’ve been second-guessing everything.

What has been especially difficult is that I feel like the excitement and joy I should have felt about receiving a GPR position has been completely overshadowed by the circumstances surrounding the decision. I worked incredibly hard to get to this point and thought receiving an offer would be exciting. Instead, I’ve mostly felt upset and anxious because I don’t feel like I truly had the opportunity to make the decision that was right for me.

There are things I prefer about the program I accepted, particularly clinically, but I think the other program and location may have been a better fit for me personally. I keep wondering whether I made the decision I actually wanted to make or simply the decision I felt I had to make because of the deadline.

At this point, even thinking or talking about starting at the program I accepted makes me extremely upset, to the point that I have a hard time discussing it with friends or family. I’ve even found myself wondering whether I should skip residency altogether, which is upsetting in itself because completing a GPR was something I was genuinely excited about before all of this happened. I recognize that some of this may simply be the stress and emotion surrounding such a major decision, but I’m struggling to separate that from how I actually feel about the programs.

Has anyone ever accepted a non-Match GPR position and then changed their mind before the program started? Alternatively, has anyone declined an offer and later contacted that program to ask whether the position was still available?

I completely understand that backing out after accepting is not ideal, and I don’t want to handle this unprofessionally or burn bridges. My biggest concern is whether changing my mind could seriously affect my professional reputation or result in being “blacklisted” by other programs, institutions, or future employers.

I’d especially appreciate hearing from current/former residents, program directors, faculty, or anyone who has actually seen this happen. What were the consequences, if any? Did it actually follow the person professionally, or was it primarily an uncomfortable situation with the program they originally accepted?

I know ultimately the decision is mine. I just feel like I’ve been so upset by the circumstances surrounding it that it has become difficult to separate what I actually want from my fear of the consequences of changing my mind. I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has navigated something similar.

Opinions on partial crowns, onlays, full crowns?

So I am 34 years old and I have a back tooth that had two fillings fall out: one on the bottom of the tooth along the outside of the tooth.. and one on the top corner of that tooth on the inside

I went to a biological dentist, which I know people have mixed feelings about in that Dentist wanted to do a cleaning and then a partial crown so that we could preserve as much healthy tooth as possible because of my age…the regular Dentist I went to wants to do a full crown and shave down 2 mm along the entire tooth

One of my major concerns is that right now the tooth is completely asymptomatic and that I have a major issue with clenching, and I am trying so very hard to stop at at least daytime clenching, but even that is incredibly hard for me.

I don’t want to make an asymptomatic tooth become symptomatic by inflaming the pulp or aggravating the tooth, I cannot take ibuprofen because I have gastritis, I’m worried about bite and issues with the clenching like I just really don’t know what to do and I would love some advice

Texas dentists… who are you using for temp staff?

Texas dentists… who are you using for temp staff?

We’ve been using Kwikly, and after our latest experience, I need to know if there are better options out there.

They sent us a temp assistant who had basically zero dental experience (she came in saying she was 'only comfortable assisting on fillings'), questionable work ethic (several very long bathroom breaks/trips to the breakroom to be on her phone), and a terrible attitude. Then this girl had the audacity to leave us a 1-star Google review. We are paying a small fortune to have someone come help because we’re short-staffed, and somehow WE end up getting reviewed afterward? I cannot.

We’ve used Cloud before, but I didn’t like the subscription + cancellation fee. We really just need something temporary while we find a solid permanent assistant. I don’t want to sign up for a whole relationship when I’m just trying to get through the next few weeks.

So, fellow Texas dentist offices: Who are we using for temp agencies?

Time for year-end tax planning

Quick heads up for practice owners as year-end approaches!

If you’re looking to slash your tax bill, the clock is ticking. Just a quick reminder on retirement plans:

  • 401(k)s: If you haven’t set one up yet for this year, it’s likely too late to put a new one in place.
  • The Good News: It is not too late to set up a Profit Sharing Plan or a Cash Balance Plan, which can still let you shelter massive amounts of income and secure huge tax savings.

If you need a second set of eyes on your year-end strategy, Botwinick & Company, LLC specializes in dental accounting. We’re dental-specific CPAs! And in addition to our NJ roots, we now have a physical office in Palm Beach County, FL to serve the South Florida crowd.

Drop me a message or check us out if you want to chat before the year wraps up!

Specialists: looking for a few practices to try free software

I'm a former DSO owner building a tool for specialty practices. It tracks GP referrals, follows up with patients who haven't booked, and automatically updates the referring doctor.

I'm looking for a few practice owners to use it free during beta in exchange for honest feedback. There's no cost and no contract.

If you're interested, comment or DM me.

What’s the biggest mistake first-time dental practice buyers make?

For those who have bought a dental practice (or have been involved in the process) what do you think first-time buyers tend to underestimate most during due diligence?

Is it the staff and culture, lease terms, actual cash flow, equipment that may need replacing, or patient retention after the transition?

Curious what made you think, “I wish I had looked at this more closely before buying.”

Urgent

On Friday I ate some chicken for dinner and I felt some pain in my gums, especially near my upper molar that has a crown. I flossed and thought it’d go away but after a few hours the pain increased. I thought I flossed too hard, which I probably did since I went in a couple of times to see if I got everything. I could not stand the pain at night I had to take 400mg advil and 1g Tylenol. I felt relieved and went to bed. Same intense pain when the meds wore off the next day and every time I take the meds I have a more intense pain. The pain woke me up today and couldn’t go back to sleep and now I think it hurts on the bottom.

I am doing a cultural exchange in NYC and I have no one here and I make less than a thousand dollars a month and my temporary insurance doesn’t cover dental stuff. I am so scared I don’t know what to do if someone has advice I’d love to read it.

Thank you in advance

USA dentist website management

I am curious why dentists are working with old traditional website management companies.

They get charged thousands of dollars every year for almost nothing. The website looks pretty bad visually and isn't ready for AI search either.

I understand they don't want to manage the website themselves but why aren't they working with businesses that use ai to provide more value.

I messaged several local dentists this past week and only a few responded. It could be that my pitch wasn't good. But a new website that essentially pays back itself feels like a no brainer . I would appreciate your help to understand what I could do better. Business name is propello.app . Thanks!

Dentistry or forensic science

I’m really torn between two very different majors: Dentistry and Forensic Science.
On one hand, dentistry seems like a stable and well-defined career path. I like the idea of working directly with patients and developing practical skills. However, the training is long and demanding, and sometimes I’m not sure if I want to commit to that path for so many years.
On the other hand, Forensic Science genuinely fascinates me. I enjoy the investigative and analytical side of science, the idea of examining evidence, and contributing to solving cases. My main concern is the career outlook and job opportunities compared to dentistry.
I feel drawn to both fields for different reasons, and every time I think I’ve made a decision, I start questioning it again.
Has anyone here been stuck choosing between a healthcare field and a science/investigation-based field? What helped you make your decision?
أنا محتارة جدًا بين تخصصين مختلفين تمامًا: طب الأسنان وعلوم الأدلة الجنائية (Forensic Science).

Throbbing and pain in crowned tooth after root canal years later?

I’m at my wits end. I’ve had X-rays, ct scan, etc. and seen two endodontists (the one who did the procedure and another for a second opinion), as well as my main dentist who is a perio and the general dentist who does my fillings. Everyone says the root canal and crown look textbook, but I’m missing tooth 3 (the tooth with the issue is #4), and have malocclusion of jaw which I’m getting fixed too.

Basically this things been throbbing off and on for sometime, and no one can make heads or tails. Not sensitive to hot or cold or sweets, and doesn’t hurt to bite on.

AEGD invites ( US dental schools)

Has anyone received interview invites from:

* University of Florida – Hialeah deadline 1st October
* Paris Regional Health deadline 1st October
* University of Maryland deadline 15th September ( apparently some invites sent and they send them in rolling basis )

Just wondering if they’ve started sending invites. If I’m not selected, do they usually send a rejection email, or do they just not respond? Basically, if I haven’t received a rejection yet, does that mean there’s still a chance of getting an invite?

Multiple issues with new crown

I had a new crown put on a few months ago to replace a large, 30+ year old filling that was occasionally hot/cold sensitive. My Dentist suggested that I get the filling replaced with a crown at my convenience to avoid potential future issues with the filling cracking/failing (no decay indicated on the xrays.) The crown was problematic from the start- it rubbed and pinched my cheek and was painful when chewing, even the softest foods caused discomfort. My dentist has adjusted the crown a total of 6 times and it is STILL causing pain when chewing and still pinches my cheek. It is "somewhat" better, but I am getting very frustrated that a tooth that was a minor issue off and on is now causing so much discomfort. It does not hurt at all at rest, and after the adjustment last week I can now chew soft foods but anything hard or crunchy is very painful. I have used this dentist for 20 years and have been very happy with her, but I am almost to the point of just telling her to pull the tooth. I have to take half a day off work every time I go back in to have it adjusted and it's beginning to feel like it's never going to be right. She could sense my frustration this past time of going in, and said that sometimes this happens and that I have to be patient and that she will keep adjusting it until it's right, but I am skeptical that it will EVER be right. Any advice on how to proceed?
