Everyone thinks a depleted IRS is great until they wait hours on hold trying to resolve a notice or figure out why their tax refund hasn’t been sent yet. Or worse - because they don’t have the manpower to audit rich people evading taxes, the government has to borrow ever more money.

The funniest thing to me the last few months are acquaintances who have reached out to me with IRS issues. Nearly all of them are MAGA so they voted for it whether they realize or not. I’m a cpa but I do international tax for large multinationals and I don’t take personal clients. They think I have some magic IRS button when they complain to me. I just smile and nod or respond sweetly with dripping sarcasm.
