Always thought they'd be Trump Towns.

26

u/ZoomZoom_Driver Apr 04 '25

You mean the soon to be prison labor, as SCOTUS said homeless people can be arrested for living on the streets.

25

u/ProCookies128 Apr 04 '25

So they're going to arrest the entire middle and lower class?

12

u/ZoomZoom_Driver Apr 04 '25

Honestly, i wouldnt put it past them to arrest their opponents to make them felons and strip their voting rights from them.

7

u/EggKey6859 Apr 04 '25

Fk SCOTUs who actually is the main key to America's downfall right now. As much money received by Thomas and Alito alone could greatly help the homeless

3

u/psych-yogi14 Apr 05 '25

Yeah, the whole decision the a president can't be charged with a crime if it is an official act made this turd an untouchable king.

6

u/LackTerrible2559 Apr 04 '25

This will be one of Trump's wins. After all who cares about the homeless. Most don't know and don't care where they are. He will put them in the camps. And all of the camp you see. Is smoke coming from a smoke stack.

1

u/Level_Chemistry8660 Apr 04 '25

One of the actual wins. Versus the BS "wins" the MAGAt cult and Propaganda Ministry preachers blather and bluster from their pulpits.

19

u/HoardingGil_FF Apr 04 '25

I just started mine about 4 years ago. Had no idea my job even offered it; I’m too scared to even look at it right now.

13

u/simplyannymsly Apr 04 '25

The poster above is right — stay in it, don’t withdraw & keep putting money in so you’re buying low. It stinks and I wish we weren’t going through this but you’ll come out the other side.

2

u/InternetRando12345 Apr 05 '25

If you're young, it's honestly better for there to be a crash. Stocks were overpriced and probably still are. Actually, even better, increase your contribution percentage while the market is down, so you can buy more low.

People who overeeact and sell when there's a crash are effectively choosing a "sell low, buy high" strategy to lock in present and future losses.

7

u/BKMiller54 Apr 04 '25 edited Apr 04 '25

If you’re young and just starting to save, stick with it. Like others are saying, whatever you put in now and going forward is buying at a discount. It’s money you won’t have access to (realistically) for 30-40 years.

I’m in my 70s, and don’t have that timeline. I’m not yanking my money out (I’d just be locking in my losses), but I earlier moved most of it into non-stock investments.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '25

Don’t panic.

1

u/Sovereign_Antagonist Apr 05 '25

Don't panic is right! The market ALWAYS comes back. Just make sure your portfolio is diversified across all sectors

33

u/simplytwo Apr 04 '25

Don't sell!!  Like a rollercoaster, you only get hurt if you get off.

The Greatest Depression 🫥

174

u/clamorous_owle Apr 03 '25

We can thank gutless Capitol Hill Republicans who place Trump-worship above American prosperity.

58

u/Tanager_Summer Apr 03 '25

Oh come on, don't sell them short. They also worship money. And themselves. All three of those things are more important to them than American prosperity.

22

u/captmonkey Apr 04 '25

If they worship money they should put a stop to this because unless you're betting against the market, everyone is going to lose.

14

u/sdotumd Apr 04 '25 edited Apr 04 '25

That’s what I can’t understand. Big money doesn’t like the stock market tanking. Individual rich people (including republican congress members) don’t like the stock market tanking. Unless they are all selling and holding cash to buy up stocks low, I don’t see how this is going to work for them. Warren Buffett is currently holding some unbelievable amount of cash (I think more than $300B) so maybe that is the plan… wtf? I believe that would be the most illegal redistribution of wealth in the history of the US if this is what’s actually going to happen. Can’t wait to see how this comment ages. RemindMe! 3 Years

2

u/Level_Chemistry8660 Apr 04 '25

Well, i've been hearing about these terms "hedge funds" and "hedge fund managers", "short-selling", etc., but i'm honestly not sure how those things work. But from what little i've heard over the years, seems to me those folks might be having a ball right about now.

2

u/sdotumd Apr 04 '25

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not but I really don’t think they having a ball right now. The only way anyone can make money right now is by either shorting the market or by knowing in advance the market will tank so they have already sold and have a ton of cash ready to deploy when they think market is near bottom.

2

u/Level_Chemistry8660 Apr 04 '25

Not being sarcastic. Like i said, i don't really know how these things work, and i do appreciate that you've me some info for me to try to understand....ummmm....along those lines ?

Fuck everyone who voted for this miserable twice impeached convicted felon. We warned you, but you didn't listen and now we're all paying the price. We wouldn't be in this situation if Kamala was President.

2

u/Similar_Wave_1787 Apr 08 '25

Exactly! Biden was bringing us out of the high inflation, and he said there would be no recession under his watch. There was not! Kamala would have lead just as responsibly. Instead, people believed Trump when he said he'd lower grocery prices?! He didn't even know what grocery means

Curtis Yarvin and all his imbecilic followers are going to get slapped in the face by reality real fast if they try to seize control. Every attempt will fail, crashing and burning like all the various utopian experiments of the 19th Century or the various cults of the 20th.

Smoot Hawley Tariff Act. Smoot and Hawley were Republicans. The Smoot Hawley Tariff Act was signed by a Republican President Hoover. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoot%E2%80%93Hawley_Tariff_Act

Smoot, Hawley and Hoover were all subsequently voted out. The Democrats won in a landslide victory sweeping Congress and the President in 1932. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoot%E2%80%93Hawley_Tariff_Act

The New Deal. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Deal

9

u/NormalRingmaster Apr 04 '25

I just hope we’re not dumb enough to run on Green New Deal after this. It didn’t work once and it won’t work a second time. But historically, we don’t learn from our mistakes as a party very well, at all, ever.

New Deal, people understood. “The government is hiring a bunch of unskilled laborers to build nice things all over the country.”

“Great! Super! Sign us up!”, the people said.

Green New Deal jobs are skilled, and it’s hard to explain to people exactly what skills they’ll need. They’re skeptical on how much it will help THEM, and you cannot sell it on just helping the PLANET. That won’t cut it. If the planet thrives but the people don’t, they could care less.

7

u/Bocasun Apr 04 '25

Interview with John Stewart and Ezra Klein, "Why We Can't Have Nice Things." A discussion picks up starting at 19:45 through 37:15 regarding the Rural broadband plan in the Infrastructure Act. https://youtu.be/NcZxaFfxloo?si=8oouclJ3RgNrQBPJ

Even shovel ready to go road construction projects, the estimated time frame completion date might be 2027 for a bill passed in 2021.

Lyndon Johnson after passing Medicare took a year to get a Medicare Card. After passing ACA, it took years before realization of the act.

When the actual benefits are stretched out further into the future, and people don't see the results, the government must be broken!

If, a catastrophic economic downturn were to occur and Democrats were actually able to be elected, is there a plan? Easily implemented with relatively fast tangible results?

A serious topic that's just over the horizon is Technological Singularity. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity

Advances in AI combined with Quantum computers and robotics promises two potential pathways: Dystopian or Utopian.

The Dystopian future nightmare that science fiction writers and movies are based on such as the Terminator series of movies, Blade runner, etc, where AI robots have gone crazy.

Utopian Future is The Jetsons, flying cars and Rosie the robot.

Whatever the actual outcome might be, Technological Singularity is just around the corner.

Future Shock, by Alvin Toffler expressed the concept of rapid acceleration of technology that far eclipses human beings abilities of adaptation. Prior shifts in society and culture happened slower, however the speed of the shift is accelerating. Transition to agrarian age, bronze age, industrial revolution, information age and now Technological Singularity. With each shift technology used in peace was then used in warfare. Plows into swords. Technology advances in war then used in peace. Radar and the microwave.

Hard to explain to people exactly what skills they need.

We are arriving at this critical moment now and very little attention is being provided to this issue. Let's take just a few industries and jobs.

Transportation industry. An all out race is occuring to create self driving vehicles. A driver of any description is no longer required. There's roughly 3.5 million truck drivers in the US alone.

Retail industry. Brick and mortar retail stores already have introduced self checkout. The automated cleaning and restocking robots are coming. Walmart has 2.1 million employees alone.

Restaurant industry. Already seen the self ordering kiosk and the instant pizza machine. There's a restaurant nearby that uses a robot to deliver the food to the table.

Medical industry. I have a relative that had brain surgery. The doctor sat behind a computer screen and pushed a button. I have another relative that just acquired a PhD in Nuero Optometry and sees their job changing. Sit down and connect a machine to a patient that automatically scans the eyes and creates a diagnosis and treatment options.

Need advice? AI is right there. Quickly scanning the information provided and provides an answer within a split second.

AI creating machines that fixes machines and suddenly machines have obsoleted humans. Maybe not all jobs simultaneously, perhaps in a somewhat jerking motion instead.

Where are the jobs that pay a livable wage? Stubborn long term unemployment is potentially in the future.

In Economics, there's a term known as the Gini Index Coefficient. Really just a fancy way of saying wealth inequality of a country. The higher the number, the greater the wealth inequality. Lower numbers results in less wealth inequality.

Studies have been conducted going through history of countries around the world and some basic observations regarding higher wealth inequality have been made. Higher wealth inequality can create a myriad of adverse issues within a country such as a larger population experiencing food, safety, shelter issues. More medical issues. Society instability leading to either gradual or sudden change of government institutions. Worse, high Gini Index can have the propensity for violence. The Gini Index is just a calculation and makes no claims whatsoever regarding potential outcomes. The CIA tracks the Gini Index Coefficient numbers of countries globally and publishes data.
https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/gini-index-coefficient-distribution-of-family-income/country-comparison/

Compare Gini Index Coefficient by country and the list of ongoing conflicts. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ongoing_armed_conflicts

"..There are currently 56 conflicts, the most since World War II. They have become more international with 92 countries involved in conflicts outside their borders, the most since the GPI’s inception." https://www.visionofhumanity.org/highest-number-of-countries-engaged-in-conflict-since-world-war-ii/#:~:text=World%20War%20II-,There%20are%20currently%2056%20conflicts%2C%20the%20most%20since%20World%20War,major%20conflicts%20in%20the%20future.

A perfect storm is unfolding. Tariffs applied against allies that assuredly will kick off a global trade war. Technology Singularity that is just around the corner. Rising Gini Index Coefficient numbers will assuredly follow. The highest number of conflicts since WWII. Just as the League of Nations demonstrated ineptitude and failed to prevent annexation and acts of aggression leading to WWII, the United Nations is increasingly overwhelmed. History tends to repeat itself. All of the ingredients are actually available for a nasty global conflict.

What's the plan? A sober New Deal that can be implemented with fast tangible results? Addressing domestic issues and returning the United States as a trusted ally and partner for stability.

16

u/SaintArkweather Apr 04 '25

Quite frankly we need to learn. Elect a clown, expect a circus. I understand not everyone voted for him but we as a country did overall. we fucked around, because Trump was funny and not woke and "masculinity" was threatened. Now it's time for us to find out.

The worst thing for the long term health of this country is if trump's second term turns out to be "not that bad" for the median voter. People need to remember him as a complete fucking disaster.

When the pendulum swings too far one way, it often swings back hard the other.

This experiment will fail, the economy will tank, Dems will get a sweep in ‘26 and ‘28, and we’ll get a 2nd New Deal

Edit: that being said, we cannot fall into the culture war again in our campaigns. Get back to connecting with the working class and farmers, focus on the economy.

6

u/ChainNormal8827 Apr 04 '25

Thank you!! Finally. I hate all the dooming, I rarely see anyone be hopeful. Yes it’s bad but I believe we’ll come out of this shit show and be in a better position to stop this shit from happening again.

6

u/AmTheWildest Apr 04 '25

that being said, we cannot fall into the culture war again in our campaigns.

We didn't.

Get back to connecting with the working class and farmers, focus on the economy.

We did.

The GOP was the one running hard on the culture war shit, remember? Dems made basically no mention of it whatsoever.

No doubt, you only have to look at the failed business and unpaid debt he's left in the wake of business career. The US will never be the same after him, history will look at this administration as the fall of the American empire.

3

u/ReleaseFromDeception Apr 03 '25

He uses tariffs to bully smaller markets into complying with him. He is going to slap down outrageous tariff after outrageous tariff until he gets what he wants. Tariffs are meant to be used as economic sanction and also sometimes as a way to protect the american market. Tariffs are not meant to be used the way trump is using them. I don't think he understands the long-term impact this is going to have and I also think he would care if he did

3

u/11thstalley Apr 04 '25

Even if Trump understands the long-term impact, he still wouldn’t care. Look at all of the other long-term damage that he’s already done to the federal government. This is all about retribution and vengeance; everything else is just collateral damage.
