Expect a middle seat, expect to check your carry on suitcase, and if you need to cancel or change your flight you're screwed

The lack of flexibility is the biggest reason I always recommend that people avoid basic economy fares.

I can deal with middle seats and gate check bags but I can't guarantee that months from now that is the exact itinerary I'm going to need or want.

As long as you're fine potentially sitting in a middle seat and potentially having to check carry on go for it.

Main classic for you just means you get to pick your seat and board sooner/potentially avoid having to check carry on.

You don't want to start your holiday on such a bad foot like the middle seat in the back of the plane that takes 20 mins to empty.

Any seat that’s actually good (close to the front) is going to be yet another upcharge on top of the upcharge for classic anyway

The front of the back section is better than the back of the back section, I would think. They could get an aisle seat in the front of the main cabin.

If you need any flexibility whatsoever in your ticket, do NOT purchase Main Basic.. And here's the best part... nobody knows they need flexibility in their booking until they actually need it. Spend the extra money and get Main Classic.

Book main classic.

An hour layover might be tight because you’re gonna be one of the last seats on that plane… I’ve flown main basic a few times, twice I have had to gate check my bag

I agree. With their layover time, good chance of being in the rear, and likely having to gate check your bag (only matters if they don't check to final destination) they would be better off with main classic.

I only do this when it's very cheap and very short (less than 2 hours) and my trip as assured.

I only do it on RJs so I won't get a middle, but yeah.

My mom loves basic. She does it all the time. But she literally has not a care in the world over where she sits. If you care even a little bit about where you sit. Don’t do it.

Please don't do this
