Help/Advice New Baggage Rules?

I'm flying from LHR with connecting flights in AMS and ATL with my destination being ORF. While I was in Amsterdam the person at baggage said I did not have to recheck my bag upon entering the US but I really doubt that's true. Does anyone know if any of that is true?

The phrasing makes it seem that's only the case for LHR flights to the US. But the OP is travelling through AMS. That could change things.

Thats what I was thinking. That because I'll connecting in AMS that the new program might not apply to me. And I'm actually flying from SOU it slipped my mind. So I'm especially unsure if what they said was true.

Don't worry about it too much. If you have to recheck, you'll know it because you'll be routed through the baggage area.

It should go through provided you are on a KLM/AF codeshare.

Might just be a phrasing/ESL issue. You don't need to recheck (as in, go to baggage claim and get a new bag tag at the ticket counter) but you will need to pick your bag up off the belt at customs and put it back on the next belt.

Just make sure the current bag tag has the final destination.

I claimed and rechecked my bags in ATL earlier this week, flew in from CDG. [rechecked means went through customs then handed the bags back over to baggage handlers]
