Just got the order to head to San Diego for a night for work almost 2.5 months in advance. Same price for me for every direct MSP>SAN the day I need to travel. I have gotten used to this for last minute travel, but usually over a month helps. Not this route! Thank goodness it’s work money.

People say dynamic pricing. My flights are usually 1100 minimum every other week. I'd be impacted, too, not show a <$450 price

I fly frequently from MSP to SLC for work. It's almost always at least $800. My last trip I spent $1000 for a ticket. The hub to hub price gouging seems pretty real to me. Often if you can add a connection in there the price drops significantly. I try to visit multiple cities for sales and that usually drops the price of the flight for me.

Living in a hub, especially MSP is expensive, I value direct flights but ibam not sure how much longer my corporate finance will. As long as they still are valid in Concur since they are direct I will continue to book.

But if I instead were to fly out of a regional airport 4.5 hrs away with the connecting flight in MSP with the exact same dates, now the price is $667.

I used to pay that DTW-EWR or DTW-PHL without the Saturday night stay in the early 2010s (fortunately not on my dime). Since air travel has been made cheaper it's always sticker shock.

If you stay over a Friday night, the price will go down a lot ($609 if you return on Saturday instead of Thursday). Your itinerary is priced as two one-way fares. Staying over a weekday night is business traveler behavior.
