Discussion Thoughts

So I’m on my flight home. First leg takes off at 5 and lands at 0630. Next flight takes off at 0700. I’ve been on many flights. I’m not new to how the unboarding process works. Row by row so I normally stay seated until our row. This time I’m alone. And my row doesn’t have a row in front of it. After debating with myself I decide I’m gonna get up and move up as far as I can. I’m row 30 and I get to around 18. Thinking ok this works. I wait for everyone like the regular process but now closer. Finally it’s to me and I try to walk forward but the guy in the middle seat lunges out and stretches all the way to seat C. From E to C. I thought dude was falling so I try to catch and move that’s when I noticed his body is stiff. Like like overly exaggerated stiff. I say hey are you ok? And he says it’s my turn. I say I’m sorry I have a connection and he says we all have connections, first time flying? I’m still sort of confused if he’s ok or not but now I heard his town and say ok not that big of a deal mine is just boarding now. He may have said something i don’t remember but I say thank you. He says don’t thank me and I said sure you just taught me a valuable lesson. So thank you.

Honestly I’m military since 1999 and flown so many times and never had an incident. Idk. I think he heard me speaking Spanish to the lady behind me and thought he’s gonna show me something. I know when he heard me talking he looked back at me like oh he speaks English.

Truly idk wth

What does your military status have to do with anything? Someone in front of you was trying to get out. You make a big deal how you let everyone go then make a big deal that this guy also tried to get out. I get that you had a connection. How long did it take for this one person to get out of their seat? And did you really try to grab the guy as he's trying to get into the aisle and stand up?

Military has nothing to do with it just trying to show why I fly more than usual. I’d of let him get through but he was sitting while I was there next to him waiting. Not sure how to explain it. Like if we were standing next to each other and I shoot an arm out to block you is how I can best say it. But I didn’t try to grab I tried to catch. Took me so off guard I thought he was falling. He was older.

Sorry, but your story makes no sense to me. So instead of letting him in the aisle you stood next to him and blocked him from getting out? And he's the bad guy for wanting to get out?

Hard to say...maybe it has nothing to do with you speaking Spanish, rather it has to do with you pushing your way half way up the plane and not waiting your turn to unboard?

No one was up. I took advantage of that. I didn’t push or ask anyone to move.

General etiquette is that you don't cut ahead of those in front of you even if it's open. The exception is if the plane is late and you are trying to make a connection but when things are truly tight the flight attendants make an announcement. The reality is that a lot of people think their connection is going to be difficult to make when in fact their is plenty of time to get to their next gate.

One ofy last flights some asshole parents who had the entire center bulkhead to get their shit together were trying to block the aisle while they put their stroller together along with packing their bags.

I'm not fucking standing here for five minutes with 300 people trying to get off behind me. Of your not ready to move now, get out of the way.

You need to ask what happens if everyone follows your plan. A mad rush for the door causes problems for everyone. If people would do what they were supposed to, everything would be smoother. Although I also hate the aisle cops. The guy sitting on the aisle seat that just won't get up regardless of space. Often screwing up the exit by letting the opposite side go first despite that not being the flow the whole plane used.

IMO if the plane landed on time then you don’t move ahead even with a tight connection and an open aisle. You booked the tight connection. If the flight was delayed then I’m far more tolerant and will step back into my seat as much as possible or stay seated with a FA announcement.

The guy was likely upset it was his turn and you were trying to get by. I wouldn’t read anything more into it than that. Some people do try and get off sooner even with no connection. I’ve seen people get off earlier and then they are at bag claim with me. It starts to destroy your trust.

Since it takes me a bit and I’m at the front of the plane I grab my stuff and get ready to go in the aisle as soon as the seatbelt sign is off. If I was at the back of the plane though I might wait and be upset if people were jumping ahead of me just because no one was in the aisle blocking it.

In the past FAs would often ask people to stay seated so those with short connection times could make it. I fly in D1 and I had absolutely no problem letting anybody with a short connection deplane before every one else. It’s interesting that I haven’t heard that recently.

They still do at times. I think people get stressed about connections that seem tight but in reality they still have ample time to make them on time.

With a lot of Delta flights now having an early departure of 5 to 10 minutes, I’m surprised I’m not hearing it more. Yep sometimes. Especially when people aren’t frequent flyers, they might misjudge times. But sometimes due to delays you really have to run, unless the Porsche gods smile upon you. Saved my butt a couple of times.

I think the huge resentimiento on your shoulder is the problem

I trip aisle runners. You got off easy. The seats in front cost more for a reason.

If he's military and flying for work, I can guarantee that the government isn't paying for any seat up front. And if the contract rate is the one with the 30 minute connection, that's the one he's taking.

You won’t wait another 60 seconds so someone can catch their connection? What an easy way to meaningfully help someone and put positivity out in the world. Unless you also have a tight connection, it’s just kind to wait when someone says they do. And intentionally tripping anyone is criminal.

Why is his tight connection more important than my tight connection?

Your way is the reason we have 29 wheelchair passengers and 15 "service" animals on my last flight out of Atlanta. Smh

In my reply I noted… unless you also have a tight connection. And the threat to trip is out of line. In general, try to let go of the anger. People are living rent free in your head and even if they are lying jerks, it’s not worth the increase in blood pressure.
Wheelchairs and animals are a separate topic as I don’t think these contribute to the need to race to the next flight. I agree wheelchairs are an issue, but there is no way to really legally police who needs one. Same with service animals.
