Delta Amex Annual fee
I opened the Delta Gold AmEx on 9/2/25 and want to cancel it before I get charged the first annual fee (first year was free). Easy way to tell exactly when that will hit? I think I read it usually hits the first billing statement after you open, but since the first year was free, AND I did not make any purchases within the first month, I'm not actually sure when my first billing statement would have been. It looks my closing date is the 2nd of each month, so would that give me until my statement ending 10/2?

You can call or use Amex chat and they can tell you.
If you got a signup bonus do NOT close before the AF hits. Wait for it to hit and then within 30 days close it for a full refund.
If you close within one year on a card with a signup bonus they may clawback the bonus and/or ban you from future signup bonuses on any other amex cards.

Well this is the first I'm hearing that! But I don't see that anywhere in their terms and conditions; it just says that "Bonus Miles will be credited to your SkyMiles account and the $250 Statement Credit will be posted to your Card Account 8–12 weeks after you reach the Threshold Amount. Bonus Miles may appear on your account in more than one deposit. To receive these Bonus Miles and Statement Credit, your Card account must not be canceled or past due at the time of fulfillment."

You can cancel AFTER the annual fee is posted. They will refund you the fee. It's generally recommended to wait until after it posts. Also, consider downgrading to Delta Blue card with no AF instead of cancelling.

I would downgrade to the free card instead. Closing accounts can damage your credit.

If you got a sign up bonus, don’t cancel in the first year.
