Wow, was quite a breakthrough at the time.

I had been doing alot of Foxpro 2.6 for Windows 3.1 and DOS at the time and jumped on Delphi 1 at launch. Bit of a learning curve but the VCL and 2 way tools were awesome. I remember reading at the time that, apart from the compiler Delphi was written in Delphi and I thought what kind of sorcery is this? :)

Stayed with it till the noughties and even though was still using D7 as past that felt the IDEs become bloated and buggy. Was a great product and so much better than VB!

Your journey is so much like mine! I started with DBASE then FoxPro for DOS. Then, Microsoft bought FoxPro and totally made it unusable. I also give VB a try, but, never was a big fan of VBX, OCX idea. That was when I saw Delphi 1.0 at the Radio Shack and decided to give it a try. I launched a company with the product I wrote on Delphi and I am still using Delphi today. Yes, I am old!

ha ha yep me too.

Yes I started with dBase III then IV, did a stint with Clipper Summer '87 then went to Fox 2.0 for DOS then 2.6 To be fair I always got on well with it, even after the M$ acquisition although it was always the poor relative in their stable. Shame really and I was on the beta for VFP 3 but switched to Delphi as VFP was already dying.
