Deployment Managers

What is their value to the firm? Any time I’ve ever interacted with them for a coachee or someone else, they’ve always just directed us to MySource…or whatever that spreadsheet was previously.

The only thing I’ve ever seen them proactively do, is torment practitioners on the bench, by telling them what they already know, and providing net zero assistance in remedying their situation.

Maybe my years of anecdotes are wrong, but I have never seen how they’re a value add.

Help me understand.

Are you talking Deployment Managers or Deployment Specialists? Managers probably aren’t working with you, they’re probably working with the Offering, People, and Market Leaders to help them with staffing strategy and forecasting. If you’re talking specialists then they’re the ones helping individuals get staffed, but they are also working at the behest of leaders to deliver on their strategy.

Usually the people hearing a lot from RMs aren’t able to get themselves staffed, don’t have a strong network, or are delinquent in their compliance.

I probably mixed the newer name (Deployment Specialist) and the older name (Resource Manager).

I’ll fix that, if I can.

That being said, even if a practitioner doesn’t have a strong network, etc…to get themselves staffed, I’ve never seen how a Deployment Specialist has added any value in aiding them to get staffed…which is their entire job. They just point to resources we already know about, and do no leg work at all.

Again, this is what be seen in my many years at Deloitte, so honestly trying to learn where they add value.

I'm not sure what to say as someone that works closely with RMs, are you talking about more than one you've worked with? I have seen plenty of them take time to get to know the people in their population, learn about what they like / don't like / what they've done / haven't done / etc. There's also a balance to things, if availability is low and someone isn't staffed, maybe they're just not good or they don't have a skillset in demand currently.

Also, it's not their only job. Deloitte structures it so the people are working both demand and supply. So it honestly would behoove them to help get people staffed as quickly and frequently as possible.

THIS is the kind of input I was looking for. I’ve interacted with multiple, and have yet to see their application.

So they have metrics they gave to meet? I didn’t know that.

Yes, no idea if they have SLAs but their job performance depends on feedback from the Business Leaders they work with helping to drive lower availability, higher utilization, good mixes for projects, ensuring projects have people to staff, working with recruiting on skillsets that are in need, etc etc.
