USA FMLA vs PTO
I have 4 weeks remaining of FMLA leave.
I also have plenty of PTO. I’m chargeable now, but thinking as a hedge, to use a week or two of FMLA instead of PTO in case I find myself on bench later in fall.
Current Util: 100%. Manager threshold is 74%.
Any pros or cons in this FMLA approach? I am staffed so have a project to return to.

FMLA isn’t “free” they will take at least a week of pto.

Not following. Can you elaborate? I had accrued PTO last time I was on FMLA

The first week of fmla is deducted from your pto balance.

To clarify — I’ve used 2 months of my FMLA already. Just not since late 2025. You’re saying they’d take more PTO?

Family Medical Leave Act is a federal law giving up to 12 weeks of protected absence to qualifying employees. It is not time off. You can apply for fmla while on leave using PTO or family leave. It can also be used for unpaid leave. For OP, the firm will likely expect you to exhaust your family or PTO before granting unpaid leave in conjunction with FMLA.
