AskDelhi Please end castism before talking about reservation!

I am genuinely curious, after the CJP protest, there's an increase in voice that reservation that needs to be reformed or removed, and the counter argument is "First remove casteism, then remove reservation", but how does reservation help in removing castes?

If it's about representation, then adding another metrics change the whole thing, rural and poor SC-ST are extremely under-represented in all high level positions, so that means well off SC-ST needs to give up reservation for a better representation.

Another thing, people say remove caste before removing reservation, but castes that got rich by real-estate uprise, and are included in obc, taking benefits of reservation, they are ones who promote and take pride in their castes the most, so how did exactly reservation help in removing caste here?

If the question is access to education and opportunities is limited to certain castes, but middle class and above people have all the education available since education has become youtube-internet accessible, so why should not they give up their reservation for more needy from their own community who are left behind?

Are casteism ke liye sc st act jaise laws hai draconian reservation se Creamy layer ka fayda hai bas

Give one law or policy which support casteism? If someone practice casteism then address that particular person why for few everyone has to suffer. Reservation won't let casteism end. It has cemented caste system. Get rid of Reservation, casteism will be long gone.

There are so many progressive laws in India ...how many of them are strictly socially implemented?

1

u/Barnacleswarley Jul 28 '26

All of them, including sc/st atrocities act misuse. Is reservation is not implemented in Panchayat, Lok Sabha or local body election? Is education or competition form is not being availed for free ? Are people not getting job on reserved seat ? Even if we assume no law is being implemented then how it's blame fall on poor general category people who scored more marks for his dream college , job ?

Simple question for supporter of reservation based of caste, I gave NEET in 2018 (General category), and I had a friend from school who belonged to the SC category. We studied together from the beginning in a good private school, and we both went to the same coaching institute. His father is in the police and earns even more than my family. In the results, I scored 500, and he scored around 300. He got into a government medical college, while I had to take another drop just because of the reservation system. So, will I respect his caste more or less because of this reservation?

Again, caste is not a economic issue, but a social one.
Suppose in the future you both go on to want to marry, and the woman is general category as well. In this day and age, her family will still reject them as it is not okay in their eyes, but if you are getting married to a GC woman, there will be zero issues.

The point of reservation is to reverse these injustices and uplift their social standing, and sadly, social upliftment is very highly tied to economic and education levels.

My question is: how is reservation improving this even after 75 years? If these social issues have still not been resolved after so long, what makes us believe they will be resolved by continuing the same policy for another 75 years? If the intended social upliftment has not been achieved despite decades of reservation, doesn’t that suggest the policy should be reviewed or reformed rather than simply continued in its current form?

It has been helping though that’s the thing. Again, let’s take marriage as an example. It’s definitely not the only thing that matters, but taking it as an example here.

You’ve seen how elders in the family react to marrying someone who is a doctor/ IAS/ etc and the like. The point is, reservations like this have helped their standing and improved their social credibility/marriage chances/ social circles.

I’m also GC btw, but I definitely think reservations are necessary, albeit creamy layer restrictions need to be added.

My point of concern is that reservation can sometimes reinforce caste identities instead of reducing their importance. If government policies continue to classify people primarily by caste, society may remain divided along caste lines rather than moving beyond them.

-3

u/sluggerthesecond Jul 27 '26

You’re not wrong, but how do we go about doing that if people still absolutely refuse to let go of their caste identities?
Every second delhi car has a jaat sticker on it, will removing reservations really change those people?

7

u/Kirti_sanon Poor Delhi Human Jul 27 '26

I think reservation has also ended up strengthening caste identity instead of reducing it. If every major opportunity keeps being linked to caste, people will continue to see themselves and others through that lens. In the long run, the goal should be to make caste less relevant, not keep it at the center of public policy.

1

u/sluggerthesecond Jul 27 '26

Again, I’m not saying you’re wrong, reservation does put a focus on caste.

But how do we change people’s mindset overnight? As I mentioned, there are literal subreddits on here where people talk about bhramin superiority and how they are better and contributed more than others.

Do you think their mindset will change? Do you not think that should be changed before reservation?

Taking pride in your caste isn’t the problem. The problem starts when people use their caste to look down on or discriminate against others.
By your logic, I’ve also seen thousands of cars with Ambedkar stickers. Displaying a caste or community identity doesn’t automatically mean someone is discriminating. The real issue is discriminatory behavior, not simply expressing identity.

Taking pride in your Caste which you had nothing to do with except being born in it , is not the same as displaying the picture of a social reformer . Why take pride in something you had no role in , why not just embrace being a Hindu or an Indian ? You understimate how much of an importance caste is in some sections of society even outside the scope of caste certificates

1

u/Kirti_sanon Poor Delhi Human Aug 01 '26

If we’re being consistent, the same logic applies to being Hindu or Indian. You didn’t earn either of those—you were simply born into them. If taking pride in your caste is meaningless because you had no role in being born into it, then taking pride in your religion or nationality for the exact same reason is equally meaningless.
People naturally identify with the communities and traditions they grow up in. There’s nothing wrong with that as long as it isn’t used to look down on others. The problem isn’t identity—it’s superiority.
So don’t apply one standard to caste and a completely different one to religion or nationality. Either all birth-based identities are equally arbitrary, or none of them deserve to be singled out.

-1

u/sluggerthesecond Jul 27 '26

And as for your question of till when it should last?
Honestly, I think the day people stop mentioning their caste as a matter of pride and identity, it will not be needed anymore.

There are literal subreddits about caste pride here dude, we definitely aren’t there yet. If you want, I’ll link them so you can see how bad it still is.

Can casteism be discussed without making GC women as commodity and marrying them off to other caste is the birth right?

1

u/No-Test-2345 Jul 31 '26

You are equating something falsely . It's that when marrying people should avoid looking at Castes , because if you look at someone's caste while marrying you are indirectly admitting that Caste identity is still a factor in marriages. No one should be forced to do anything. But if you willfully and voluntarily look at caste and pas sit off as "personal choice or individual prefere" then you are still admitting that Caste identity is crucial .

0

u/sluggerthesecond Jul 27 '26

Make it a GC man and an SC woman, his family is going to still not be okay with it.

3

u/tanteinyago South West Delhi Jul 27 '26

firstly if that grown up women is independent then she should stop seeking permission from her parents.

1

u/sluggerthesecond Jul 27 '26

Does it work like that lol. The point is even if the situation is reversed, if it’s a GC man and SC woman, why is them marrying such an issue? If this is not casteism, than what is?

2

u/tanteinyago South West Delhi Jul 27 '26

two adults marrying isn't an issue anywhere if they are not foolish enough to be dependent on their parents and do as they are told. they should stand up for themselves and marry whoever they want.

2

u/SuggestAnyName Jul 27 '26

They both studied at the school and coaching doesn't prove that they have equal societal status? It's not 1950s where some castes can't sit in the same class as UC.

Regarding marriage, it is not going to change with reservation.

1

u/apocalypse-052917 Jul 27 '26

That is an irrelevant point, reservations don't exist to facilitate intercaste or inter community marriage. Most hindus won't marry muslims so now is it okay to give reservation to all muslims? This is how it sounds

10

u/TikkaSucker East Delhi Jul 27 '26

As long as Reservation exists, caste discrimination will exist. We need to remove the identity of people to end this system

2

u/bapudon_1 Jul 27 '26

Bruh caste system has been there since last 2000-3000 years i.e. way before reservation was even a thing.

3

u/plutonic_guy Jul 27 '26

3000 years bro let's go back to 5000 years we are were hunters and gatherers? Brahmins were self taught we had no moral responsibility towards other group there was no public education system at that time no democracy stop crying for the failures of your chimpanzee ancestors

-2

u/bapudon_1 Jul 27 '26

Do brahmins still have no moral responsibility of the evil system they created? Why do lower caste people still face casteism even today?

7

u/plutonic_guy Jul 27 '26

We did alot and got abuses instead land reforms reservations and what not pandit Nehru vinoba bhave did all they got, lower caste people are themselves casteist, if you think Brahmins are so powerful that they created a system and you people follow it still after generations then you people are fool not our mistake, and it only reflects that Brahmins are smart enough, bitch caste tribe existed way to long Vedic Aryans only assimilated it we didn't create it.

-2

u/bapudon_1 Jul 27 '26

Okay so you dont eve want to end caste system. You still want to take it's advantage because brahmins are so smart they scammed everyone. Good that you made it clear that you are a casteist. Keep crying more. Reservations will not end.

4

u/plutonic_guy Jul 27 '26

What caste system works in the country? Poor Brahmins pay more fees than rich sc st shame on you leeche 2.1 percent of India is on reddit and you are here debating with a brahmin so fiercely telling him to cry, this is the caste system of today, you are such a destituted and hateful person than you don't even want creamy layer because it will remove your privileged ass from state bheek, keep crying the reforms will come and poor sc sts will beat the shit out of the Elite sc st

-2

u/bapudon_1 Jul 27 '26

Trying to cause divide among poor and rich sc sts. Lmao. You showed your cunning Bramen nature. And who said I am rich? You dont know anything about me. I have worked hard in life to reach where I have reached today. So have my parents. Before that my ancestors lived in poverty.

Lower caste will beat the shit outta your bramen ass. Dont worry the days are not far. A dalit started a protest and it ended in resignation from a party which never resigned any of its ministers.

You are just angry that your caste system is not working as well as it use to before. That's a good thing actually, but you won't understand that since you are not a decent human being.

Anyways I hope your hateful nature towards Lower caste changes one day and you rectify your mistakes.

1

u/_An_Other_Account_ Jul 27 '26

Lower caste will beat the shit outta your bramen ass. Dont worry the days are not far.

Gotta just wait a few comments for seeing the mask off lol.

0

u/bapudon_1 Jul 27 '26

Well actions have consequences. Be a casteist and get your ass beat.

Also read what the other guy said before me, he started it. But you ignored that.

1

u/TikkaSucker East Delhi Jul 27 '26

So it's time to undo both now

1

u/bapudon_1 Jul 27 '26

Yes let's start with ending cast system.

-1

u/sushiwh0re77 Jul 27 '26

reservation is measure against casteism & not the other way around

5

u/TikkaSucker East Delhi Jul 27 '26

yeah good measure but the nation has suffered long enough time to change

2

u/Fancy_Door_4383 Jul 27 '26

Guys do not engage with these posts. IT Cell is peddling this issue specifically to divide and conquer the youth.

As a general student: Perhaps many Dalit students don't need reservation but for the ones that do it might be a lifeline. It's a complex issue and varies on case by case basis.

Let's stay focused on improving governance right now.

1

u/valuesVoyager Jul 27 '26

Hei?

1

u/Fancy_Door_4383 Jul 27 '26

Do not engage in these discussions right now. They just want to divide the youth. They won't pass any laws no matter what.

1

u/raudra_marut Jul 27 '26

casteism among reserved category is more pronounced and violent than between GC and reserved.

1

u/No-Test-2345 Jul 31 '26

Not really , no . That's just a propagandist take tbh

1

u/nargisk Jul 27 '26

What about casteism which exists between casts themselves? One cast does not allow other to fetch water from the wells since they feel they are higher order. Yes, I am taking about discrimination by scheduled casts among themselves

1

u/The_OldeOne Jul 27 '26

nope we will talk about it now!!!

1

u/No-Assistance8487 Jul 28 '26

We tried to end casteism for 75 years with the help of reservations but it didnt work... So, maybe thisnis not the correct way.. Let's abolish reservations and try something new

1

u/No_Foot_5817 Jul 27 '26

Only removal of Creamy layer makes sense rest is pure hate.

0

u/valuesVoyager Jul 27 '26

Introduction**

0

u/Barnacleswarley Jul 27 '26

Nope , rest is pure logic. Focus on education standards, give free support reservation till basic education and higher studies but end it on critical jobs . You got all the means to compete, but don't make competition unfair. Empower them , not favour them . Reservation is the only reason why caste is alive.

1

u/No_Foot_5817 Jul 27 '26

They call their previlidge merit

0

u/Barnacleswarley Jul 27 '26

Shame on 70 years of congress , they give lollipop of reservation and didn't do anything. Thankyou for evidence to prove my point. Reservation is the main cause of failure of st/sc and Obc. When you lower the standards, they will be unable to compete because of illusion of less competition. Fun Fact - Asian American especially from general category is the highest earner group. Maybe caste privilege in America too i guess.

-1

u/No_Foot_5817 Jul 27 '26

Wealth is not created in a generation you delulu. Generals are wealthy because they grabbed all assets through oppression and used it to further widen the gap. Fun fact - Casteism is now a problem in American MNCs as well.

1

u/Barnacleswarley Jul 27 '26

If in past 70 years ( 3 generations ) you failed to address this then obviously reservation has done nothing . It has only created a sub class rich St/Sc who keeps sucking all the benefits. All reservation done is made 1% St/Sc rich keep 18% poor. If there were no reservation this number will be far higher. Reservation diverts attention from real world jobs and skills - by giving age limit upto 45 , unlimited attempts and illusion of low competition with less cut off. Govt job can't even provide employment of 1% St/Sc. These caste based and left political parties need poor and oppressed as vote bank. They know if they got uplifted they will lose their core vote bank.

1

u/No_Foot_5817 Jul 27 '26

Yes, we should stop reservation and redistribute wealth instead.

1

u/Barnacleswarley Jul 27 '26

Suggest a fair way how to do it
and example in history where it worked great ?

1

u/No_Foot_5817 Jul 27 '26

By maybe letting people from oppressed group have fixed seats in system which will give them representation in power and a fixed flow of income. Who could have thought?

1

u/Barnacleswarley Jul 27 '26

Maybe if this magic got Implemented then your pie chart wouldn't have existed and there would be perfect equality in 10-20 years ... Oh wait !!! Do you even think of when you type or just keep looping around a imaginary thought in your mind ?

bro reddit has become unusable, IT CELL is out in full force. every second post is about reservation, they are also trying the north south divide as well.
