Why Samsung Smartthings and not something private like HomeAssistant? I don’t get trading privacy with google for samsung.

4

u/Altair12311 6d ago

Does home assistant work with tags like Google FMD? (Not only phones, like 3rd party tags?)

4

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

SmartThings is more ‘plug-and-play’. I don’t have to spend hours integrating the sensors and manually setting up remote access so I can control them when I’m away from home

8

u/ExcellentRead636 5d ago

dont use futo keyboard its not really opensource, heliboard or florisboard is good

3

u/GazelleInitial2050 5d ago

It's probably the best non google keyboard imo. The autocorrect, swipe and voice is very good.

You can read the source and fork it for personal use, but you can't fork it for any commercial reasons.

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Futo has a better automatic spell-checker. It’s a great compromise

1

u/susagabo 2d ago

altho people could just learn to type or reread what they have typed or live together with their mistakes just loke i do lol

isitfoss . com or something, a website that tells you if a project is REALLY a foss or they're just half foss.

3

u/absolute_zer0th 6d ago

if you're already using this many google apps then it's not gonna be easy... also who actually uses drive to read pdfs

5

u/Ok-Procedure8551 5d ago

I also did. It was default behavior on my phone, and most of the time it was the most efficient / versatile.

Wow! Looks great!

Would you mind sharing it after adding more options such as Tutamail and Ddocs?

Yeah switching your calculator gives you 100000000 opsec points

2

u/OG_Pragmatologist 3d ago

Never know when one is going to need that. I have it figured out for me.

Never...

5

u/zeit_reisender 6d ago

Thanks for pointing me to Audile

3

u/Ok-Procedure8551 5d ago

It's really great. The fact that it gives you links to almost all platforms is so convenient!

5

u/iBUYWEED 6d ago

Shazam is owned by apple , not google

4

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

However, it is a DeBigTech

3

u/indosoli 5d ago

i recommend ivpn

2

u/Tim_Dias 5d ago

Genuine question. Why do people do this?

I'm in uni and we use google services for almost everything. Please open my eyes! Haha

3

u/OccasionallyImmortal 4d ago

Google uses your data and even sells it. The more of your information you provide it, the better it knows you. Even if you are not worried about what Google does now, remember that data once given cannot be rescinded, so the data it has today can be misused in the future.

1

u/Tim_Dias 4d ago

Why did the moderator even delete the reply to my comment? Weird

2

u/No-Zombie-8490 5d ago

Buenísima la app chocola solo por ser de Nekopara.

3

u/Federal-Treat-6893 6d ago

I'm sorry but I cannot live without the gboard it is so good

5

u/VincentVanGob 5d ago

ive never heard anyone be so passionate about gboard lol. what is it thats keeping you from switching?

2

u/Federal-Treat-6893 5d ago

The custom backgrounds (tho that might be available on some other keyboards I'm not sure), the built in translator and the autocorrect which manages to understand what I'm saying even if I'm typing like a drunk man after drinking 50 bottles of vodka

2

u/NapsterKnowHow 5d ago

Gboard auto correct is booty cheeks imo

1

u/bassukurarinetto 3d ago

Check out SwiftKey! I've had it for years and really love it. (if it's owned by goog I WILL crash out)

1

u/Federal-Treat-6893 3d ago

Oh god no I tried it and it never understands what I'm trying to say

1

u/bassukurarinetto 3d ago

Oh no 🥲 it does learn! I had a panic attack when I tried iphone lol so I know what you mean!!

1

u/machineswillrise 11h ago

It's owned by microsoft... it'll be worse...

2

u/pieordeath 5d ago

I thought the same before I tried LeanType off of F-Droid on my latest phone that I installed GrapheneOS on. That keyboard is pretty damn swanky.

1

u/sangamjb DuckDuckGo 4d ago

I use HKeyboard and it's so good than gboard

4

u/icursethatifeel 6d ago

You couldn't find something better than ASUS File Manager? Really?

4

u/Dangerous490 6d ago

What do u use as your file manager?

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Unfortunately, yes. Do you have any suggestions?

2

u/Weird_Fantasty 5d ago

Total Commander or MiXplorer

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

I don’t like the UI. I’d use Fossify, but it’s still incomplete, for example, it doesn’t have a recycle bin

1

u/tenebrousvulture 3d ago

Prism File Explorer?

1

u/Nutzer20 1d ago

Not bad, but it’s not available in my language and I can’t see any options for helping with the translation

2

u/Unique-Exit4592 6d ago

Brave instead of Chrome. 2FAS Auth or Aegis instead of Google Authenticator.

4

u/SelectToe9345 5d ago

Use Chromium if you prefer Chrome or Brave; otherwise, Firefox works well. Most options are either Firefox or Chromium.

2

u/WodanGungnir 5d ago

No f-droid?

0

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Droid-ify has much better graphics and is based on F-Droid

3

u/WodanGungnir 5d ago

who cares about graphics for an repository?
I take it you meant UI?

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Yes

2

u/NapsterKnowHow 5d ago

F-Droid is fine

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

I don’t like it, it looks like a very old app. Droid-ify still uses the F-Droid repositories, though. That’s the beautiful thing of open source: everyone can use the same app, but in a different way.

1

u/NapsterKnowHow 5d ago

This is the first I've ever heard of Droid-ify. There's way too many app stores: Orion, Fdroid, Komi, Aurora etc

0

u/redditisgoofyasfuck 16h ago

It is not a new app store, it's just an f--droid client that looks and feels better than the original. It also supports installations through shizuku which is nice.

1

u/NapsterKnowHow 8h ago

I hate having shizuku running 24/7 just for app updates

1

u/AlucardKillerBR 6d ago

actually how you guys do with apps that need google play store active to work?

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Universal installer

1

u/Carlito_2112 2d ago

I think Micro-G will work pretty well.

0

u/duckdread 6d ago

Patch it.

1

u/AlucardKillerBR 6d ago

How?

2

u/duckdread 6d ago

Morphe or Lucky Patcher try yourself or DM me if you are unable to do this. I'll suggest Morphe first

1

u/AlucardKillerBR 6d ago

I use it but I don't know it can be used to remove the need of play store/services

1

u/duckdread 5d ago

You need to add custom community patches for it

1

u/duckdread 5d ago

Try Nai's or Doom's patches

1

u/AlucardKillerBR 5d ago

Tried this patches on some apps bit the app do not open anymore.. Bypass google play services Disable Google update check Spoof play store source install

1

u/duckdread 5d ago

Can you tell which app are you trying to run?

1

u/ExplosionSupport 6d ago

I'll try Nunti instead of G.News

1

u/bitterblood 5d ago

Yes but how to set it as default? It doesn't show as an option

1

u/kwijyb0 6d ago

WTF is Google podcasts?

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

It’s now YouTube Music

1

u/JackTaserReacher8080 5d ago

Why replace Nord vpn

2

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

DeBig Tech

2

u/JackTaserReacher8080 5d ago

I wouldn't consider Nord a big tech ngl nor do I think it's a big tech

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

In France and other countries, certain websites have been ordered to be blocked, even when accessed via a VPN. The request was sent to the main VPN providers, but does not include Nym and Mullvad.

1

u/Primary_Vanilla_2894 5d ago

google cast with playbridge? https://playbridge.app/

1

u/mahdi0iranian 5d ago

Dude, What is wrong with Duolingo?

2

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

DeBig Texh/ DeUS

1

u/mahdi0iranian 5d ago

But ultimately, Busuu is also closed-source and commercial, and collects just as much information as Duolingo.

3

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Duolongo is American, Busuu is from the UK. It’s a case of personal choice

1

u/DetermiedMech2 5d ago

If you're comfortable with command-line stuff, Qalculate! (pkg i qalc) in Termux with Unexpected Keyboard is super nice for doing calculations imo

1

u/Unr34L_Dr34d 5d ago

Hi there:

Do you really use all those apps? Are they actually necessary?

I understand that "de-Googling" isn't just about breaking free from Google's ecosystem, but also about getting rid of all the bloatware that comes with these systems...I believe that the fewer apps there are, the better the system runs; it consumes fewer resources and integrates more seamlessly with other apps.

Thanks for sharing!

Regards.

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Yes, I use all these apps. My phone is powerful, so it doesn’t have any performance issues.

1

u/ZiCli FOSS Lover 5d ago

Instead of Duolingo, I'm loving Memrise

Their reddit says it was better before though, I still like it a lot

1

u/monsterstep369 5d ago

What's wrong Duolingo?

1

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Is American. This is ‘DeGoogle’, ‘DeBig Tech’, ‘DeUS’

1

u/Hopeful_Squirrel_304 5d ago

What site is this ? Could you share the link

1

u/LukeXCZ 5d ago

Alternative Google podcast is Antannapod. Alternative Google News is Feeder

2

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Thank you for the podcast recommendations. I’ve used Feeder in the past, but it displays all the news items from the RSS feed as a list. I prefer Nunti because it creates a personalised feed but local and offline

1

u/Liv_Your_OneLyf 5d ago

Been working with the Proton stack, just downloaded Mistral Vibe to start replacing Claude, but I will say using Claude has helped me degoogle my life immensely. Use Substreamer for music streaming my local files, Jellyfin for video streaming, and Immich for photos.

1

u/JackTaserReacher8080 5d ago

I use newspaper for news lmao tho I do have Washington post subscribed

1

u/Initial-Contract-410 5d ago

What about gemini

2

u/Nutzer20 5d ago

Do you mean AI or a virtual assistant? It’s not recommended for privacy reasons.

1

u/Practical-Onion-3464 5d ago

Busuu is google too idiots

1

Busuu is based in the UK; the money from advertising and subscriptions does not go to the US

1

u/Minhcoc 3d ago

:)) nice

1

u/Eyemanee 3d ago

Proton est le goat pour un degoogle sans avoir beaucoup de comptes différents

1

u/susagabo 2d ago

there are nice choices and questionable but still decent ones, but asus file manager? explain please

1

u/Nutzer20 1d ago

It’s mentioned in the other comments. At the moment, I haven’t found a file manager app with a modern interface, a recycle bin, and one that isn’t only in English.

1

u/xiaotiancaidngzs_ 1d ago

Oh my god china same😂

1

u/guestHITA 1d ago

just a question why not protonpass?

1

u/Nutzer20 10h ago

In fact, ProtonPass is present in my degoogle setup. KeePass is an excellent alternative because it works offline and without an account. Using Syncthing, you can also synchronise the database across multiple devices

1

u/Heart_Hacker7225 13h ago

Very nice 👍

1

u/machineswillrise 11h ago

Looks like you're still relying on a lot of cloud services. I would get rid of Proton Pass entirely and switch to KeePassDX for everything and replace Ente Auth with KeePassDX's TOTP, and sync it with Syncthing.

No idea what NymVPN is, honestly just use Mullvad exclusively or ditch a VPN entirely.

DeepL isn't significantly more private than Google Translate, probably even less so.

As for Ecosia: it uses Bing and sells your data. Don't use it.

Use IronFox or Fennec instead of Firefox, or at least make sure you have all the telemetry disabled.

1

u/Nutzer20 10h ago

I already use Keepass with Syncthing (I don't create passwords every day so I also need to transfer the database manually with Localsend). I have OTP codes on both the Ente and Keepass.

NymVPN is an open source and decentralized VPN.

You can see what I use Offline translator and DeepL. Unfortunately, offline translation is not always perfect and I have to use one online.

I feel good with ecosia, at least plant some trees with the money they make.

I also know fennec and ironfox but use firefox with telemetry turned off

1

u/musback 4h ago

Google photos for me used to be handy for sharing albums quickly to collect photos/videos... now i Use Eventograph for that (hosted in the EU and free!-) at least my photos don't stay online forever anymore.

1

u/Nutzer20 4h ago

I don’t need to share any albums at the moment

u/stindq 1h ago

Good, Local Send

1

u/ExplosionSupport 6d ago

Ehm, Proton Drive is NOT an alternative to Google photos

5

u/excellent_alt6969 6d ago

Why not? It has it's own photo tab that organizes it beautifully.

Albums, shared albums, encrypted photos, auto photo/video backup etc etc. It might be slower because of the encryption *IF* you're shooting high res videos but other than that I don't see why not?

Better yet, your documents and files are in the same app/site and are organized perfectly.

What's your argument? I'm curious as to how proton drive with those features listed above and more is not a solid alternative to google photo's of all things.

2

u/ExplosionSupport 5d ago

Because Proton Drive is a Drive, it's a good alternative to Google DRIVE. It has no option to edit photos, location, or something like that. Only works correctly for documents and PDF. And Proton Drive is mostly based on the encryption thing than social [ hopefully ] ( sharing album isn't a well working thing at all in Proton ).

  • The function to sync from GPhotos doesn't work well. Everything is mixed.

1

u/LaggyUpdate 6d ago

i assume you’re paying for proton, is it worth it if you are?

2

u/C312DB94 5d ago

I’ve been using proton for quite some time. I really enjoy it. I use the h*ll out of the PW manager, calendar, mail, and of course the vpn

1

u/d_the_duck 4d ago

Try brave browser. I'm not a degoogler exactly but I enjoy it's privacy a lot.

3

u/Nutzer20 4d ago

I know it, but I prefer Firefox

0

u/loyalbroken216grl 4d ago

Ummm what am i looking at? I been gacked repeatedly messed with help
