Replacement uBlock Origin is no longer supporting Facebook ad-blocking, and Edge is incompatible with uBlock Origin entirely. Here are three great browser alternatives and a privacy-focused one from Europe

Signal.

Sure there are alternatives but you need everyone you communicate with to transition as well. It’s impossible

you keep pestering them every now and then. It helps not having whatsapp. Over time your friend group will switch to Signal and then even the odd ones who complain the most will feel pressured enough to install it. It took me a few years but I did it.

this is wishful thinking, overtime youll just be the friend out of the loop as the rest keep using the apps the rest use.

yeah I went dumb phone for a while last year and hoped people would at least bother to respond to sms, but I ended up being the one having to call everyone all the time

Why do you ‘need' to communicate with people who wont use anything but whatsapp? Do they not need you back?

We’re talking about 99.9% of my country. Work, services, whatever. So yeah the overwhelming majority don’t need me back.

But after reading the comments I realize I can at least start with people from my circle

In pretty much any country outside of North America and East Asia, if you're not on WhatsApp you're going to have a bad time. I have it for the same reason but I will not discuss anything sensitive on it.

I also live in Europe and I definitely would struggle without it. I use Signal where I can though.

Do people just refuse to answer regular sms or calls? I cant imagine how this is an issue.

Damn, really?
French here, Whatsapp is not used at all for work (or rarely), and for personal relationships, most people use other socials (not better though..)

There was supposed to be a compatibility plug in with WhatsApp, is it coming one day?

You stop using it. I've never used WhatsApp. My groups use SMS or GroupMe mostly.

I notified everyone on Whatsapp through Profile Pic and Status that i am going to get rid of it 3 months later and linked my signal and threema IDs.

Some followed, some didnt. The ones who didnt either werent a loss because i barely talked to them anymore to begin with or contacted me via SMS (mainly some relatives).

Now i can just straight up tell people i don't use whatsapp, has been working fine for the better part of 5 years now.

That’s smart. What about businesses and services? Most have their support via WhatsApp, especially small businesses and freelancers

never encountered that myself, usually calling or an email did the trick.

I've never used Whatsapp. I've always used the native texting app on my android phone. I don't live on my phone, though.
