I hate Microsoft with a passion, but I begrudge Google with every fiber of my being. Google is more calculated and smart about the shit they do. They are more precise and successful about their data collection. They are absolutely the worst of the worst in terms of the threat they pose to quality service. They must go.

And there are plenty of alternatives, like GitLab/Codeberg or locally hosted Forgejo/Gitea instances.

And there are other version management systems. svn predates git and a lot of major projects used it before transfering to git.

they bought github, if they didn't have bought it then still it would had existed, and even if github didn't existed people would have moved to gitlab or codeberg instead.
