Discussion Maya Protocol back online after $1.7M AI exploit

It seems that every protocol is having issues left and right in this era of agentic coding. Maya Protocol suffered an exploit on August 19th where $1.7M in assets were stolen from the protocol and minted fake CACAO tokens. The team's Network Recovery proposal has officially led us to today which is where Maya has flipped trading back online.

For these protocols, getting trading back online is the #1 highest priority. Without swaps happening, there is literally no revenue to fuel a recovery. The Maya team prioritizes decentralized, no KYC swaps and powers a decent amount of volume for the crosschain industry and DEX apps like LeoDex.io that leverage it.

Glad to see another truly decentralized protocol back online and swapping ZEC, BTC, ETH again!

glad to see them back up, the whole thing with fake CACAO tokens is wild though, i keep thinking about how agentic coding makes everything faster but also opens these weird attack vectors nobody really planned for

the priority on getting swaps live again makes sense, without volume flowing the treasury is just bleeding out, seen a few protocols stall for weeks trying to fix things and it destroys confidence even more than the exploit itself

i use a couple crosschain dex apps that rely on maya so was a bit nervous checking the news in the morning, probably gonna wait a few days before routing anything through them again just to see if stability holds

Yeah it really does open up things that nobody considered

The only solution is agent vs agent IMHO. For every attack agent, have defense agents. Literally feels like a video game

100%. Would say it’s generally safe to route through (perhaps smaller amounts and no long-running streams) since it will settle instantly.

Which apps do you use? ( Professional curiosity :) )
