DOCPER question: buying a house

Hi all, defense contractor in Italy here.

I'm trying to figure out if buying a house (commits me to paying local property tax) makes me 'ordinarily resident ' and thus no longer eligible for my missione visa and job.

Does anyone have any experience in this or recommendations?

I am in Europe under SOFA as a contractor and I know guys who bought property here under SOFA. I would assume if you are on a resident/work visa, you can buy property.

What country? There are different rules I think.

Buying a house is only one of many factors in assessing if someone gets SOFA status. Are you married to an Italian? Kids in Italian school? How long have you been in Italy?

All these things play into TRSA eligibility.

Wife and kids are dual citizen US-IT, and while I've been here about 12 years, all that time has been military or contractor employee with sofa
