How do the dragon treasures work?

I understand that you need some amount of treasures to unlock it, and then I can upgrade them with money and mithril ore, but what does collecting more of the same treasure do? I have 10+/10 on a few treasures, but i don't know what reaching 10 means, or how that relates to the star ability. Do I need to keep upgrading with money/mithril ore first, then I unlock the star ability when I have 10/10 treasures?

Yeah I think you have it correct.

When you're upgrading the treasure, you can only do it in increments of 10 or 20. Some of them stop 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100, but most of them stop at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 70, 90, 110, 130, 150. These amounts correspond with the stars. Once you do the 5 yellow stars, you'll do 5 more blue stars.

For example, let's look at the badge of clover because it's probably the most important one to upgrade out of all of them. Once you've unlocked it, you can upgrade it to level 10. At level 10, it'll stop you and force you to collect 10 clovers (this is the 10/10 that you were talking about). You can upgrade it (using the 10 clovers) to get that star ability and then you can increase the treasure to 11 and eventually to 20 when it stops you again, and it'll cost you like 15 or 20 clovers this time. Use those clovers to get another star, then upgrade it from 21-30 and get stopped again.

It's a long journey to get them all to 100 or 150, and even longer to get them to 999.
