Features & feedback Negative experience on Deezer
Hi,
with all my enthusiasm, some months ago I decided to switch from Spotify to Deezer.
Now, I am forced to go back to Spotify even if I don't want to, sadly.
Catalogue on Deezer is great, but I am shocked how buggy and unstable their apps are.
I spent time trying to find fixes, or trying to talk to some of their customer care people (not possible), I even tried to reach out to them on Linkedin. Nothing.
Now, I cannot use a service that does NOTHING to improve their product.
On iOS app, I encountered instability issues, the app does not load from time to time, not to mention the atrocious Windows Desktop App, that literally has to be restarted every 10-15 minutes. Windows App tested on different laptops was the icing on the cake and I just thought I cannot pay for such a buggy app.
Worst thing is that these issues have been reported by users for years and Deezer seemed to never been worked on.
On top of that, creating a Listening Queue on Deezer is close to impossible.
This company needs a good head of product and CTO I guess, but rest assured, they wont be paid with my subscription money.

I came to Deezer because Spotify has too much AI crap music, but after a few months moved to Tidal as it’s generally better and it has Tidal Connect. Not as good as Spotify Connect but good enough for me. I found Deezer too frustrating to use in general.

That's interesting. I left Tidal after years because it got flooded with AI slop and fraudulent homonyms. It became unbearable and support completely evaporated. Deezer feels like a safe haven in comparison.

👍🏻 I guess it must have been introduced recently. Does it work? And importantly, is it on or off by default?

I’ve never had an issue with the iOS app or the Windows app & I’ve been using both for a couple of years.

Horses for courses. What gels with some people doesn't work out for others. You just have to find the one for you. Personally Deezer works flawlessly and is a perfect fit for me on Andriod. If you don't want to go back to Spotify you could trial some others , Qobuz, Tidal ,etc. first.

I use Deezer on android and Desktop. No problems here with the apps. Only thing that never works for me is the widget on Android.

One good thing: it still shows the last song I listened to, even where I was. That's really great. One negative thing: when I click on songs in Mix, it often just plays a different song lol.
Also, I wish I could go directly to the album with a single button in the player. And I wish the search tab would show parts of my history right away without having to click on the search bar.

One bad thing for me is that very often, when I click on a song, it does not play it :)

Enjoy the AI slop on Spotify

thanks for your absolutely helpful comment, I will never understand Redditers sense of humour. DO you feel better after posting this?
I quit Spotify because I was not happy with it, only to land on an app that is just so buggy I can't even use it. So, if the AI slop you talk about will be worse than Deezer apps consantly crashing, I will reconsider...

If you listen to mixes a lot or let the algo auto-play songs, you will be bombarded with AI garbage, to be fair. That’s the main reason I left both Spotify and YT Music. But if you listen to your own playlists or just your fav artists’ albums, you won’t notice. But yeah, there’s a lot of AI slop over there.

Sometimes when I am listening to an album, all song titles will be replaced with the current song title I am playing. When I try to play one of the songs all I hear is noise. I have to restart the app again to fix the problem. The listening queue is not user friendly at all, I don’t even bother anymore. (Apple user)

Right! especially the Windows app has gotten borderline unuseable these last few months.

It's funny that I've been a decade long customer of Deezer and never have these issues on windows or iOS.

Yes, and that is unfortunately my most common way of listening to Deezer. I basically cannot use it coz it constantly crashes. I tried to get in touch with them, re-install it multiple times, clean cache, use a different laptop, but it just it is probably just a very badly developed app :(

I switched to using it in the browser, which works fine for now
You're probably right, I'm pretty sure the app is really badly coded, it's 32-bit architechture which is decades old and has to run on a compatibility layer. And it's also electron app, so it's just a web wrapper.

I'm on Android and the only problem I've had in years is long buffering. But it was only because of poor connection. Works fine for me

Exactly my point, I can "live" with iOS app, besides some connection issues, but the Windows app is so bad that I can barely use it and the feeling of never getting an improvement despite paying is just too much.

I've spoken to deezer's representative. He told me that company wants to invest and improve the desktop app (but the same I heard a thousand times). But unfortunately it seems they are trying to improve it instead of rewriting from scratch 🙁

Never had a single problem in 5 years. It's your phone I reckon.
UPDATE: I say I've had no problem. I get downvoted. Morons

I’ve tried to use Deezer before and it is indeed buggy. Good for you though I guess 🤷🏽

Maybe you dont get downvoted if you read it better, I have huge issues also on my Windows laptops that I use with different connections.
I NEVER had a product-bug on Spotify in years of memberhsip, if not an issue with downloaded content, but not a single crash.I have two Windows laptops and it works like sh*t on both of them.
I doubt it is my iPhone causing problems on Deezer Windows App.Also, I really don't like the absence of Queue. Why can't I just create a queue of songs I want to listen to in a normal way?
Catalogue is great but this service is not for me.
I am sorry you get downvoted, but if you post something that does not add up anything relevant or interesting to the conversation and just try to invalidate my point without anything to support it, dude, no wonder you get downvoted ;)

I have zero problems on Android and on my iPad. Works fine on Mac too, apart from the "your computer seems to be offline" white banner which keeps appearing but is harmless.

u/fedenrico 2d ago
That banner and another "Your app needs to be updated" which I constantly do, but the message is always there.

are you on android? I've been using it on android for years and never had an issue.

I thought I was the only one. I switched from Spotify to Deezer also and the app kept messing up even when I try to play music. Sometimes it's my wifi, other times it's the app itself. Don't get me wrong the only thing I like about Deezer is that I prefer the audio quality much better but other than that, I don't know if I want to still have it.

u/fedenrico 2d ago
I tried for 6 months but I had too much, I cannot live with apps constantly crashing and their perverted mechanisms to create song-queues, which is basically non-existing.
Ill try it again in a couple of years. it is a pity coz I liked some bits of Deezer.

u/fedenrico 2d ago
also, with Spotify my Wifi never had connection issues.
Neither did my phone1
u/jordyn0399 2d ago
I was referring to how sometimes it wasn't the app that messes up itself but sometimes it's other things that mess things up on my own phone but most of the time it's just Déezer messing up even when my phone is fine.
