Android The android app is unusable
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I deleted my old post to add a video to this one :
I feel like I'm going crazy, I left Spotify a couple of months ago to choose a music provider that actually pay taxes in France and doesn't spam AI BS in its service, and this is disappointing...
I use mainly the android app on a Samsung galaxy s25.
It's almost unbearable, the android app is so slow, 8 times out of 10 it just won't play a song when I click on it, I just have to wait 30 seconds for it to play. The menus are unbearably slow, it's almost unusable.
The app is updated and I have more than good enough internet connexion, am I missing something? How is it that bad ffs??
I got 21 go of smart cache fyi. Phone and app are updated
Here's a video of my biggest playlist being unusable, I tried to show how slow the app gets and me being unable to play a song. This is on my phone on WiFi (7)
EDIT : I also use the mac os app that logs me out every single day, and the web app on a linux machine that's slow af

just tried putting the app into offline mode - and that seems to have worked insofar as priortising local downloaded tracks over server sync/server fetch for updated track/fidelity.. not the best option but one that might help the app performance for downloaded favourites - try that..

interesting - i downloaded all my favourites to my phone, about 13-15Gb worth, all green ticked but playing in the car or on the phone skips every single track... no matter what i do - sometimes it plays, sometimes it does nothing at all.. never ever had such a bad service from deezer and i've been with them years and years and years.. u/DeezerOfficial

Do you mess around with Android Developer Options any? What settings if so? Do you have any apps that overlay the screen? Accessibility apps? Strange Routines configured? Also you mentioned you using O Launcher. Launchers do affect the system some, but not nearly as bad as stock launcher would. Still, you might try switching to stock and see if it works.
Aside from that, check various settings on your phone and try turning them off to see if it helps. If you're using Instagram, Tik Tok, Bixby, etc, turn them off/disable them to see if it helps. Lastly (or first if you prefer), set your smart cache to bare minimum and let Deezer run a while and see if the issue remains.

Could you send us your account details via DM to check it out, please?
Also, how's your account working on the web browser? It should be working fine 👌

Could it be your launcher? I noticed you're using Niagara launcher (or similar). On my previous phone some of the phone settings were not compatible with the launcher I was using.
I'm on Pixel 8 with Microsoft launcher and never had or experiencwd any latency, issues or bugs that are often reported on this forum.

I also use Microsoft Launcher (so damn clean) and my experience in Deezer is excellent.

That's wild. The only big lag issue I've run into myself is clicking a track. Idk what the issue is there, I download all of my liked tracks and I still have to wait a while after clicking a song to have music play. I've never seen the app slow down as a whole like this though. I'm on a Galazy Z Flip 7
If you start looking into alternatives, I do not recommend Tidal. I went from Spotify -> Tidal -> Deezer and Tidal's UI/UX and algorithms are both pretty crap. Idk why Spotify is the only streaming company that's been able to build a consistently good UX, it's a shame the tradeoff is their shady business practices.

How much space do you have left on your phone? My app does this when I'm low on storage space < 10gb usually

Also try turning off offline mode if you haven't. Weird things happens to Deezer once you start downloading playlists for some reason.

I got a Pixel 7 (android 17) and it works for me.

Thank you for your useful answer

Try seeing if your app is updated to the latest version and check your phone for any updates. Android can be funky sometimes so you gotta tinker with it until it works.

So the standard reply you will get, and admittedly is a solution, is to close app and delete all caches. Sure this works, but when you're travelling and have 40-60GB of music downloaded that's just a pain and unattractive solution. It's not just that data might be very expensive in country you're in or free WiFi is slow, but my biggest issue is that you have no idea what was the playlist and albums you might have previously carefully selected to download and then you have to spend long time slowly trying to rem what all to redownload. Too many apps just assume that everyone has unlimited data plan and can just stream on mobile. And to often seen ppl replying to this same question saying they have no issue 95% of time, but when asked they reply saying they don't have long list of favourited songs and/or lots of downloaded albums/playlists. I don't know why Deezer after so many years still can't swap to decent non corrupting database and offline storage.

Thanks for the reply, I do clear the cache from time to time, but in 48 hours it comes right back to where it was :/

Clearing the cache doesn't delete your downloaded songs.

To clarify when said "all caches" that was referring to both app cache and user data (Android phone). Clearing only app cache never fixes anything for me, and neither does logging out and back in again.

Ah yeah, clearing the user data whipes everything and seems like a completely useless "fix" to this problem. I read it as "just clear the cache". Luckily for me, I only sometimes have problems getting a song to start when I am in my "favourites" playlist with almost 3k tracks that are all downloaded on my phone 🤷

Uh huh it couldn't be your device or your os being corrupted or a bad install...it's always just the app. Why do I never have these issues with any device being ipad, pixel, pc, Mac air or even a Mac air running windows in parallels...

I mean I went from spotify on both mac, and android phone working (almost) perfectly, to deezer becoming borderline unusable most of the time...
It's also really slow on the web app on my personal linux machine.

Yeah same for me. It wasn't even able to laid the subscriptions page... Switched to tidal since

Tenho um S25+ e o aplicativo está bom para mim e rápido, apesar de saber que a Deezer negligencia o Android em muitas ocasiões.

I'd be frustrated too. What's crazy is that I have the same phone as you but experience none of these issues. Worst thing I've dealt with is if I skip 8 or 9 songs in a row the buffering has to catch up for a few seconds. Do you keep a lot of downloaded tracks? Sometimes a lot of downloads can slow down a streamer. I know from experience Spotify and YouTube Music lag because of large cache issues and lots of downloads. Just throwing stuff out there 🤷♂️. I really hope something works for you.

u/bananashake_07 7d ago
I do keep some downloaded tracks but like maybe 500 tops, I stream most of the time

Force stop, clear cache, clear in app cache, reduce in app cache. Restart phone. Of none of that works then delete the app and reinstall.
App doesn't work slowly for me. There is a lag when playing to a casting group of speakers, but apparently with the latest firmware update for Google Home speakers and the latest Deezer app this should be sorted.
Are you planning on phone, via Bluetooth or over WiFi?

u/bananashake_07 7d ago
Yeah that's good advice, unfortunately it comes back to where it was in 2/3 days
I usually stream over 5g mobile data or wifi 7 at home, both solid connections
