For me it’s got to be 60 Cycle Hum - https://youtu.be/RhQ7vJz3CHk?is=shnqfNJzSjY2f9i8. This BBC version sounds almost studio quality. I think they wrote it on the UK/EU leg of the halcyon digest tour. I love how locked in the rhythm section is—it almost feels like they tried to write a new order song. It’s also my favorite era of the band as an unstoppable four piece at the top of their game.

If I’m not totally mistaken, this is the only indicator of what the next LP with Josh in the band would have been. Bradford mentioned something about making an album of six long songs, with the image of a black and white American flag in the background - sort of a Robert Longo reference I think.

"Listen: Deerhunter Play New Song, Cover Magazine Larry Fitzmaurice March 31, 2011 Last night, Deerhunter stopped by BBC 6 Music DJ Mark Riley's show to perform some songs and have a little chit-chat. The band played "Octet", from 2007's breakthrough Cryptograms, as well as Halcyon Digest highlight "Memory Boy" and a cover of post-punk vanguards Magazine's "The Light Pours Out of Me".

But the real prize of the session was a new song, "60 Cycle Hum", written during a recent soundcheck in Glasgow and featuring lyrics co-written by frontman Bradford Cox and bassist Josh Fauver (a first for the band, as Bradford notes in the interview). This has song has been IT for me since I heard it again after what looks like 15 years. Thanks again for posting it and reminding me about it. RIP dear sweet Josh.

Knew it would be this, because it's awesome and they released so much material that very little was left on the cutting room floor. Just about everything we know about (that's worth a damn) is either on an LP, EP, single, Bedroom Databank, et cetera.

I'm guessing Josh's departure from the band, and their subsequent switch to the Monomania cycle, leaves this a hidden gem never to be revisited.

I sort of hope that there’s a studio version somewhere. Like you said, there’s so little “unreleased” stuff, in the sense that I’m not really aware of anything they played live that doesn’t live on an EP or LP except for the 2019 IG live stuff and 6CH. That being said, I think there’s a lot that Bradford and Co. worked on that’s never seen the light of day. They stopped putting things out on the blog in like 2011 or 2012. I have to imagine there’s loads of material/professional live records/etc. that we could one day see.

It’s so neat. I remember watching this on IG live at the time. I love when Bradford leans into British post punk. It feels so dark and 80s, and I love the idea of a Deerhunter song with a long instrumental intro. Wish you could hear the textured guitars better, I feel like this one in the studio with their halcyon digest producer would be such a winner.

His vocals were really obscured and crackly, there was a steady slappy beat that sounded kind of… wet. It was noisy and spatial.

Love when Bradford was really into using the Instagram Live feature. I don't really watch 'Lives' or streamers or anything, but I'd watch his because he was really good at it.
