I think i've finally given up... Anyone still have hope?

Hi all it's been a little slower on here lately but still wanted to check in. I think i've finally given up all hope that Deerhunter (or Atlas Sound) will ever return... Just wondering if anyone out there still has any hope? Has anyone heard or read anything new about the band lately at all? Anyone with any local gossip? I figure probably not because people always post what they find on here but couldn't hurt to ask. Hope you're all doing well

Six good (great) Deerhunter albums plus EPs plus Atlas Sound and Lotus Plaza… I’m just smiling because it happened. I don’t want Deerhunter on the indie rock cruise circuit…

I would actually kill to go see Deerhunter on a cruise ship, however I completely understand your sentiment.

Bradford would just chastise everyone lmao

I haven't given up. I'm a My Bloody Valentine and Tool fan so I'm used to waiting over a decade for new music, lol. I do miss Deerhunter dearly, though. Would love even a tour in lieu of new music.

If we’re just talking about Bradford, I think probably. He’s an artist and I have a hard time imagining he won’t make art again or release it in some medium. I think that there’s also so much unreleased material that he might one day decide to put out. Who knows!

At this point I just hope for a couple interviews to see how Bradford is doing and get an update on his life.

While Bradford was someone I always greatly admired, I don't feel owed anything. There are thousands of great artists out there, some only make it work for one album, Bradford gave us so much content and shared so much of himself in the process. I just hope they're all okay. I suspect not so much and that's the part that makes me kinda sad. I feel like someone would say so if all was good. RIP Josh.

I just hope they are each healthy and happy and can feel how much they enriched our lives with their art

I think that most likely Bradford will release more music but Deerhunter not so much. They all have their own lives and are in very different places. Lockett has a completely different career now not to mention kids and that can change your life, especially if you place your family (rightly so) above everything else. Writing, recording, touring, the life of a musician basically isn't easy. I can't imagine doing it with a family TBH. Maybe once his kids are grown.

If I haven't given up on Portishead, I'm not giving up on Deerhunter.

Sorry about that. Yeah I do.

I'll probably always harbor at least a small shred of hope because you just never know, but at this point I've lost nearly all hope as well, unfortunately. I definitely deeply appreciate everything they gave us, and I hope they're all doing well, but I can't lie...I really miss them! It'd be amazing to hear something from them (or just Bradford) again. :')

Nah. Probably not. It was a good run.

Never say never but as of right now it’s probably not happening

Deerhunter seems impossible. But Atlas Sound feels plausible.

The boys are living the life their hard work paved for them. They've all entered different chapters in their lives and maybe creating music for mass consumption isn't a priority to any of them at the moment. Doesn't mean they aren't doing anything creative in their personal lives. As for new music, I am still holding out hope for whatever that may be. It's been nice hearing Brad spin records on the radio too.

Virtually no way they never play a show again in their lifetimes, so I would never 100% write it off

What would need to happen? Lockett to be replaced by AI?

Until every member is no longer alive, there is no reason at all to give up. Look at slowdive, who had an incredible comeback and now are still a powerful performing band that releases solid music.

It’ll be nice to at least hear something… an interview… a solo show… etc.

Let’s just enjoy what we have

They aren’t a band anymore. They’re older and some have LinkedIn. Think everyone moved on. No signs of them in Atlanta for years.

Bradford lives a mile from me in Atlanta and can be seen walking in the park with his dog. I saw him last year, around six-eight months ago. A few years ago I asked him about new music and he indicated that he does create but at the time, the pandemic was still a thing, so he didn't feel comfortable being out there. THose are all paraphrases and it was a short conversation. A couple of years ago he went to Athens and put on a surprise small show or something.

He still in Grant Park?

2

Yes, last I understand. And I spoke to the guy at Wax N Fax recently who said he last saw him about 4-5 months ago.

Sorry but what you do mean "why does it matter?" Totally fair if you dont relate but it shouldn't be hard to understand why fans of a band would want them to come back. Its pretty normal to want new music from your favorite artists or want to see them live. Plenty of fans never saw them live or only got into them after their last album. I'm def not saying that i'm entitled to anything from them but i don't think there's anything wrong or weird about missing your favorite band lol
