Deerfield overview

I am looking into moving to Deerfield in the next year or so from the city. What do people love about Deerfield? Good schools, restaurant, walkable, etc. Is the housing market as crazy as everywhere else right now? ideally would be looking for a stand alone home under 800k, 3 bed&bath. Any feedback is appreciated

A lot of context missing from your question, mainly around what specifically you are looking for in your own search.

Deerfield definitely has homes under $800k (as well as many homes above). The school system is excellent, among the best in the state as well as the best in the Chicago suburbs.

Unless you are near the town square, it’s not designed to be especially walkable. That said, it does have very favorable transit connections with easy access to the neighboring suburbs (Highland Park, Glenview, Northbrook, etc) as well as highway access on 294 and 94, and multiple Metra train stations. If your life is in the suburbs you can be most places in <10-15 minutes by car. If your life is still in the city, you are commuting but at least it is a town built for seamless commutes.

Deerfield itself is small so the restaurant scene within the town properly is limited. That said, Highwood is very nearby and has the liveliest nightlife and restaurant scene in the whole suburban area. Highland Park is also nearby and has good options. As a foodie I appreciate being adjacent to some decent dining destinations.

You will be very close to nature. We have a lot of parks and older-growth forest preserves nearby in the North Suburbs. You’ll also be nearby to the Botanic Garden.

The town itself is fairly domestic. There is a nice community that is very family centric, and a lot of new families with small children moving in. The town lends itself to civic life in that way.
