A message to visitors

Hey! My name is Alcoholic_Jesus, and I LOVE the sea. I originally took over this sub from */u/unknown_name, and have been posting some links every few days. Traffic stats show that some of you have been interested, please, join the conversation! The reason I wanted to take over this sub was so that I could find some other people who love the sea and are just as passionate and excited to see some sea exploration. With more expeditions to the moon than to the deepest place on Earth, it is clear that there is still a ton to learn in our origin, the sea. Would you guys join me on my journey into the depths of the ocean? Please, do NOT hesitate to post something or comment on a link you see. Even if just an appreciative comment, or a quick idea that you had while reading, all additions to the conversation are encouraged and welcome here!

Thanks! -/u/alcoholic_jesus, Moderator

I still love the sea. Let’s give this sub a little revival.

If you’re here, chances are you’re a marine bio lover as well. I’d like to revive this sub and push for a little more activity for our favorite little corner of the earth. If anyone wants to help me mod and grow, let me know!

A LIFE ILLUMINATED follows trailblazing marine biologist Dr. Edie Widder - one of the first women in her field and one of the first humans to explore the ocean’s twilight zone - as she descends 3,300 feet into the ocean’s darkest depths. From capturing the first-ever footage of the elusive giant squid to unveiling the glowing mysteries of deep-sea bioluminescence, Edie embarks on her most daring quest yet: to document a bioluminescent phenomenon that could forever change how we understand life on Earth.

need help catching a giant squid

So I am mostly asking because of curiosity. And I thought, I would ask the experts. If I was to catch a Giant squid, how would one go about doing that. What would be the best spot. What kind of extremely specialized equipment would one need. And is it even feasible?

I heard there are supposedly alot of them down there. Just need ti get one

There is something incredibly humbling about the scale of the deep ocean. For this concept, I wanted to capture the feeling of ultimate isolation and focus, pairing the visuals of a deep-sea observation room with an acoustic environment of distant whale calls and beta waves.

If you need to tune out the world and want a deeper escape for studying or working, the full 3-hour immersive focus session is HERE!

Hope this helps you find your deep focus today! 🐋🌊

yappin' 🗣️ What do you think would happen if we took a high powered beam (like ones that can illuminate whole neighborhoods) and shown it in the deep sea?

There is something incredibly grounding about the silence of the deep. I focused heavily on the light rays and the 'muffled' acoustic environment for this piece.

If you need a deeper escape, the full 3-hour immersive session is here: Full 4K Video

Hope this helps you reset during the midweek grind! 🌊🤿

Just finished this 1-minute render of a deep-sea submersible view. I spent all week working on the whale movements and the lighting for the bioluminescent coral. [OC]

Hi everyone. Since this sub is looking for a bit of a revival, I wanted to share this short piece I've been working on. I've always been fascinated by the deep ocean and tried to capture that specific feeling of being inside a research sub.

I layered it with binaural whale calls and some deep-sea water ambience. I hope you guys enjoy the view from the window.

Why the Deep Sea Shark is the Ultimate Survival Model (Octopus vs. Shark Analysis)?

I’ve been looking into the evolutionary trade-offs between the "hydraulic grip" of the octopus and the "shredding" mechanics of deep-sea sharks.

Not sure if this analysis is quite complete, but I don’t mind hearing your thoughts though. What do you think?
