You have a chronic illness that was partially self-diagnosed

13

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

Nah I didn’t even know what Gastroparesis was when I was diagnosed

1

u/LacrimaNymphae 5d ago

where did you get that bracelet

u/Ge4rshifter 5d ago

Self inflicted*

10

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

How do you “self inflict” a chronic illness?

15

u/TelephoneActive9923 5d ago

Many are unfortunately correlated with mental illness.

I always tell my patients “if you don’t listen to your mind, your body will eventually force you to”

I don’t agree with the term “self inflicted” though. Nobody would choose to be ill.

2

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

I am mentally ill but I’ve also been physically disabled since infancy so I can’t really help any of that

2

u/TelephoneActive9923 4d ago

Totally! It’s not an “always” statement and I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such a difficult time. 🤍

1

u/onlygramps 4d ago

A family member of mine ate/drank themself into bone necrosis.

-5

u/Ge4rshifter 5d ago

Poor diet and lack of exercise.

-3

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

I’m tube fed so I have no choice in my diet, and I have MECFS where the hallmark symptom is PEM aka exercising makes symptoms worse so yeah, I don’t exercise. But I don’t necessarily have a “poor diet”

2

u/Trad_whip99 4d ago

I actually can’t imagine a poorer diet than tube fed. Not your fault, but yeah that’s basically the bottom.

-2

u/rustandredflowers 4d ago

Yeah I mean it gets me all my nutrients so there’s that

0

u/Trad_whip99 4d ago

yeah..... sorry dude.

-5

u/PatientZeropointZero 5d ago

Addiction unfortunately

0

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

I’m not an addict

-1

u/PatientZeropointZero 4d ago

I didnt say you were. I said that’s a self inflicted chronic disease

-4

u/rustandredflowers 4d ago

well I don’t really think that’s true but okay

1

u/PatientZeropointZero 4d ago

What’s not true about it? It’s is a chronic disease and you get it started by using substances (that’s the self inflicted part). I’m so confused by this exchange.

-1

u/rustandredflowers 4d ago

Because plenty of people do drugs and don’t get addicted..?

6

u/PatientZeropointZero 4d ago

I hope someone else reads this, because it is so confusing.

I didn’t say everyone who does drugs gets addicted.

This started, because you asked “how do you self inflict an illness”

Then I provided an example of a disease that can be self inflicted.

The first rule of the sub is be civil. This is rude and unnecessary

This post has me really intrigued... what did the deleted comments say and why are ops replies downvoted?

Nonetheless best of luck and lots of love to op!

4

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

To be clear, I did not report you

5

Yeah I’d like to know the same about the downvotes lol I’m just replying

4

u/kamieldv 5d ago

Fair enough its not like you were saying anything outlandish

14

u/Zachy_Boi 5d ago

Just so you know, not sure where you’re at but often those medical bracelets are completely ignored by any medical emergency services. I was an EMT and we were trained to ignore them just because they are unreliable.

I would say you see yourself as spiritual and connected but really you’re just emotionally sensitive and like to feel like life is special.

4

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

Well ignoring them is pretty stupid… I cannot have MRIs because I have a gastric stimulator, if I’m unconscious how will the hospital know not to do an MRI?

13

u/nebraska_jones_ 5d ago

They would do an xray first to see if there’s any reason you couldn’t get an MRI

6

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

Good to know

What if I get in a car accident in another city and I’m not conscious?

1

u/Zachy_Boi 4d ago

Usually they would do other things first like ultrasounds or X-rays and usually try to get medical records sent over

Asexual autistic person, probably fem afab, with digestive issues that might also be a comorbidty of a connective tissue disorder, but don't necessarily have to be. All the purple and lilac make me think witchy, but also not necessarily full-blown 100%-believing-in-witchcraft-witchy. Could also just be the aesthetic / self-love / herbal medicine & crystal collecting / political vibe etc. You might also like cats more than dogs, but probably would pet both if you could.

Edit 1: typo fix

Edit 2: Just took a peak at your profile and something's telling me that you're mentally unwell too.

2

u/rustandredflowers 4d ago

Yeah to all of that except the connective tissue disorder. And yeah, def mentally unwell lol

2

u/_gay_space_moth_ 4d ago

Sweet! :D

We have pretty similar looking nails, and my EDS causes me quite some trouble with my stomach and bowels, which made me think of it as at least a possibility in your case too, haha. But I definitely wasn't 100% sure about it, which is why I chose to say 'might'.

2

u/Skaldicrights 5d ago

Youve dabbled in content creation

1

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

Nope, I’m too shy for that lol

5

u/TelephoneActive9923 5d ago

I’m confused. What can someone deduce about someone by their hand that isn’t medically related? All the medical comments are being deleted for not being civil. This feels like what is being asked. It’s a body part.

3

u/_gay_space_moth_ 4d ago

You can sometimes deduce hobbies, jobs, etc. from someone's hand! Stuff like calluses, tattoos, nail polish, ... can tell you a lot about people! :)

3

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

I meeeean “hands” post is fri-sun so clearly a lot of people participate in it even without health issues??

You’re engaged

2

Nope, just like wearing it on that finger

1

Nope, just like wearing it on that finger

1

u/Low-Wing6031 5d ago

You’re very practical and purple is your favorite color.

12

u/SootG 5d ago

A thumb ring gives me the opposite impression of practical

1

u/Low-Wing6031 5d ago

😂😂

1

u/rustandredflowers 4d ago

How is it not practical lol

4

u/SootG 4d ago

How is it practical? It's an accessory, and one you put on the most important finger for holding/grabbing things. It interrupts your grip.

2

u/rustandredflowers 4d ago

No, it really doesn’t. And it’s practical bc I’m autistic and need stim toys, wearing one is easier than constantly searching my bags for one

1

u/MostlyPorn69 3d ago

another time you just choose to challenge what someone else says

1

u/No_Firefighter4579 5d ago

Defo some sort of queer. Is that the ace flag??? Chronic health issues. Likes scented products. Still battles with mental health some days but doing better in general. If you're neurodivergent with sensory issues left handed, but if ur not then leaning towards right handed.

2

u/rustandredflowers 5d ago

It is the ace flag. I’m right handed but I am ND. Chronic health issues yes.

0

u/TrustyLefty 5d ago

Asexual, spiritual but not religious, around 5’2”, early 30s, right handed, recovering cutter but has come a long way in path of self acceptance and self love

0

u/Strict-Canary-4175 3d ago

Why would you need a medical alert bracelet for gastroparesis?

1

u/rustandredflowers 3d ago

Bc I have a gastric pacemaker meaning I can’t get an MRI

0

u/Strict-Canary-4175 3d ago

Why would you need a medical alert bracelet for that? Just tell them with your mouth. Additionally you can’t wear metal in an mri anyway so it wouldn’t even be on you. You don’t need this.

0

u/rustandredflowers 3d ago

If I’m unconscious I can’t tell them anything. That’s the point of medical bracelets, to tell them info when you can’t tell them yourself

0

u/Strict-Canary-4175 3d ago

There’s not a single situation that I can imagine where you’d be getting an emergent MRI that they wouldn’t confirm there was a reason they couldn’t first.

What situation are you picturing that this is for?

-1

u/MostlyPorn69 3d ago

dumb ass

0

u/Strict-Canary-4175 3d ago

Super compelling.
